Haha true! I dont like the new beatport. But what I like even less is this idea of giving away just a few invites.. just a stupid idea Imo.. I fully moved to buying tracks from audiojelly now, since its cheaper anyways!

You'll get used to it. Everyone said the same when they changed it to the last layout, but I bet most people can't even remember what it looked like before.
And yeah, the key & BPM bit is probably the best addition - if they're included in the MP3 tags then I might even switch to buying most of my tracks from there instead of Juno.

There are a few improvements on the Beta - I like the more flexible search, where you can type in Artist + Track and get taken straight to the relevant release, but I'd rather see this kind of thing put into the Flash website.
Posted by enydo on Jun-14-2011 14:28:
Will you still be able to use the Flash website after the Beta goes live? I haven't really read anything about that.

I think I posted it towards the beginning of the thread, but they said not to worry, as you'll have the option of using the Flash version "indefinitely".

I'm already noticing that the key information isn't massively reliable. Never send an algorithm to do a man's job.

I haven't checked it yet for the tunes I bought yesterday, but had already decided I'd probably better!
I was surprised they didn't embed it in the MP3 tags though - if I've got to find the tracks again and copy and paste the tempo and key, I might as well just work out the key myself anyway!

Here are two fresh codes, if you use one please share your codes as well to keep the ball rolling.
IG9VXQTA and GQHYXAY3.

I just scanned through my latest purchases and was surprised to find Beatport's guesses at the keys were pretty spot on. The only one I corrected was a Cm -> Gm...

Maybe this is because I have the musical knowledge of a rabid chimp, but it seems to be contradicting the Circle Of Fifths and my own ear in many cases. A few things I've noticed that seem very suspicious:
1. It will put remixes in different keys to the original tracks, sometimes completely different keys that are miles away on the circle. For example, it thinks Bedrock's remix of Chilling Moments is in Dmaj, even though it tells you the original is in Dmin and both versions use the exact same vocal samples.
2. It's telling me a lot of tracks are in major keys, even ethereal moody prog records, and I was under the impression that very few dance records are in major keys.
3. According to Beatport, some of my most harmonically successful transitions from old sets are impossible.
4. Some transitions I've tried based on Beatport's key information just don't work harmonically.
Again, I don't know enough about music theory to really work out what it might be getting wrong, or where I'm going wrong, but I definitely don't trust it 100%, mainly for points 3 and 4.

If anyone wants an invite, I just emailed the support team and told them I wanted an invite. Just got it in the mail.. I've also bought about $500 of music in the last 2 years, they better have gave it to me.
Where's the BPM and key of the track like you guys have been talking about? |
I'm sure they really value the massive $5 per week you contribute to their business.

Is anyone else getting bombarded by 25% Off deals from them right now? I've had three in the last month. They must have realised I'm just using them to search and do most of my buying on Amazon MP3.
Posted by Ian on Jun-19-2011 15:24:
I get about one a week of those, but I've only used my bp account 4 times in 4 years really, when they have an exclusive that I can't wait for elsewhere such as spearhead recs.

I was, so I filled my crate with about 300 tracks and left them sitting there. Now they've stopped sending them, cunts.

is anyone having prolems with the waveform when previewing the music?
its completely off-sync for me. i click on the breakdown part and i get beats, i click on a part with beats and i get a breakdown.

Also noticing that the BPM counts are sometimes wrong. Like most BPM detectors, it will sometimes struggle with drum 'n bass tracks and list 85/170ish tracks at something like 113.
Posted by pzK on Jul-03-2011 22:15:
Also their key notations are way off, they're just processed through some automated key detection program. Adds zero value.
Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-03-2011 22:19:
Yeah, I went over that a few posts back. I'm still finding it helpful, but I double check everything.
