Yes it is impressive to hit 90+ miles an hour pitches, I will never argue that...the reality though is that any hockey player with a good set of hands could do it to, in fact they practice deflecting a smaller object with a thinner stick moving just as fast daily.

Basball players have skill, so do chess players...as far as athleticism goes, they can't even compete with the fake WWE guys....its the simple truth.

Deflecting a puck is a lot different than making solid contact between a baseball bat and ball. Both are round, so you have to hit the ball almost perfectly square on to put it in play. As per pkc using KOs as a testament to support his gay sport of fags running around in short shorts, try this.

Try getting hit in the face with a ball travelling well over 100mph with no protection whatsoever. Batters get hit in the head all the time, pitchers get hit in the head every year, catchers get run over at home plate while they're standing still. But yeah, there's nothing physical involved in baseball. Tell that to Buster Posey.

Try just standing still while a grown man runs full speed directly into you. That play broke his ankle and he's out for the season.

Nothin' gay here.

and btw pucks are not round

getting hit in the face by a baseball happens once a year to maybe 2 guys, what i talk about happens every game.

russel go sit in the corner....

he barely knows baseball. I would argue that hes never played the game past rec league at his local park. maybe played some wall ball in elementary school sprinkle a lil soccer baseball on top of that and you have srussel's baseball career. But he has every upperdeck baseball card where a player was featured with their shirt off thats for sure.

Posted by Vivid Boy on Jun-15-2011 00:26:

...for athletic purposes of course...

Posted by Zyklon_Jay on Jun-15-2011 00:26:

to be fair, i never played baseball more than that either....chicks didn't fuck baseball players here, baseball players here were usually the guys who didn't make it on the manly sport teams.

I think it's logical to assume that deflecting a puck with a flat stick is easier than making square contact between a round ball and a rounded bat, especially when said ball is not traveling in a straight line.

You're right that I have no experience playing hockey, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't the person taking the shot be trying to place it in the easiest spot for a deflection? In baseball, the pitcher is trying to place every pitch in a specific spot where the hitter won't be able to hit it.

The hitter also has no idea what type of pitch is going to be thrown. It could be a 95mph fastball, it could be a 90mph slider or cutter which can break over a foot, it could be an 85mph curveball which can also break over a foot, or it could be a changeup that looks exactly like a fastball, but is often 10mph or more slower. They need to react to this in about .2 seconds, swing a bat, and hit the ball squarely in the center of it in order to make solid contact. They also need to judge what type of pitch it is in that time by picking up the rotation of the seams on the ball.

It's a bit more complicated than "standing there swinging a bat."

so "let's assume" that throwing an object is much more accurate than hitting it with a stick so it goes where you want it to go so another guy with a stick can deflect it somewhere else.

even girls win prizes at throwing things at carnivals.

How often to NHL players get hit in the face with the puck? I've never seen it, and I watch pretty much every Sabres game. The only player who I've ever seen get hit in the face is a goalie, who wears a mask. I'm not saying it doesn't still hurt, but you can't compare getting hit in a mask with getting hit on your face.

I can understand how a contact sport might seem homosexual to someone with latent homo tendencies, but thats what real sport is Russell.

Yes, and they throw them over 90mph into a window about the size of your fist from 60 feet away.

truthfully neither did I. I played with the highschool team one day and was smacking balls our "lead pitcher" was tossing and was asked why I didnt play baseball. I told them cause its a boring ass game. That I dont enjoy.

Soccer and Hockey were my sport. Hockey I played up to double A, soccer i played competitively as well. Hockey was alot harder to move up then soccer though because every kid in Toronto plays it. I maxed out at double A third line On West Mall Lightening. Then I just focused on soccer because it was cheaper, I was better at it, had more fun playing it and I didnt have to drive 12 hours every 2nd day for tournaments.

thats a retarded comment as it happens every second week in hockey.

theres a reason why half the players have no teeth. lol

you just watch the leafs too much who are afraid to dive at a shot to block it

You seeing it doesn't change anything. I've watched every Sabres game for about the last 5 or 6 years and have never once seen a non-goalie get hit in the face with a puck. Not once. I've seen many pitchers get hit in the face/head with comebackers, and I've seen even more batters get hit in the head/face with pitches.

I've seen kids get hit in the face with comebackers when I played baseball as well. When a goalie gets hit in the face, they stop play until they can collect themselves. When a pitcher gets hit in the face with a comebacker, they go to the hospital.

I really honestly think you make up about 90% of the things you say. Baseball in Canada is a joke anyways, so I wouldn't be surprised if your "lead pitcher" was terrible even if you were "smacking balls," thrown by him. Like 99% of high school level pitchers can't throw a ball 90mph. It's not quite as hard to hit an 80mph fastball.

EVERY Sabres game, you guys.

case closed. Hockey players dont go to the hospital they go to the locker room get stitched up and come back to play 10 mins later. Research its true. Hockey teams have guys hired to stitch on the bench lol.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jun-15-2011 00:40:

Okay, Jay is actually making intelligent points here. You are not. They go to the hospital for a concussion/broken jaw/fractured orbital bone. It's not just a cut that can be stitched up.

dude all I did from the ages of 4 onward was play sports. I have more professional athlete friends then a guy that plays professional sports. I played hockey with people like David Bolland, Michael Cammalleri and Mark Giordano. I wish I could say I played soccer with pros, but I live in Canada, but I have played against shit players who now play MLS and have played against kids from half way around the world in tournaments and got our asses handed to us. If its one thing i;m naturally good at its sports (accept for basketball I have the vertical of a 5 yr old girl and couldnt hit a shot if my life depended on it, and am way to physical for a hands off game)
