Detail:
No it wasn't. We're looking at this kinda out of
sequence. This was the move prior, leading up to
your suggestion. He moved his bishop in position to
capture my queen. However, my next move was to take
his pawn, leaving my rook exposed to his rook which
was then taken. In the moves leading up to
this exchange I felt like I should've moved my
rook's position as it was serving no purpose just
chillin in the corner.

You didn't even understand what the fuck I was saying. Try again.

the notation your describing suggests that the move my Queen makes to capture a piece @ b2 is a dumb move. You also suggest that I should have lost my queen by his bishop moving to a5 which would put me in check.

See here:

however, the board wasn't set up that way. My king was at: d8 and my queen was never at a5.

No excuse for my blind blunder in that game but I was playing 40 people at once. Got confused but still no excuse on my behalf.

You are amazingly stupid. Maybe you'll realize or someone will explain, I can't be arsed to waste my time.

Come play me and put it where your mouth is.

Posted by DJRYAN on Aug-11-2011 21:08:

and I looked up the notation and the only thing that made any sense was the first part where my Queen takes his piece at b2. Had I not done that, I would've lost my Queen (bxb4) but that's not what happened.

The second part of your notation indicates that his bishop takes my Queen at a5, which would also put me in check. However, that part of the notation doest not accurately represent the board. My Queen couldn't have been taken there. However, a move to the space would've put me in check.

I'm pretty sure our game would give Meat an aneurysm.

Posted by Tasty Onions on Aug-11-2011 21:16:

lololol, probably.

DJRYAN, I think what Meat is saying is:

1. ... // Qxb2
2. Ba5+ // Ke7 (or whatever)
3. Qxb2 // ...

Posted by DJRYAN on Aug-11-2011 21:44:

notation hurts my head. I just want to play.

Posted by Tasty Onions on Aug-11-2011 21:47:

Okay...

Your queen takes his pawn on b2.

He moves his bishop to a5, checking your king and at the same time opening up an attack by his queen on your queen.

You're forced to move your king out of check, while still leaving your queen open to that attack.

He takes your queen with his queen.

Is notation reversed for different sides of the board? It appears that way but are there different types of notation depending on league or game?

Posted by Tasty Onions on Aug-11-2011 23:39:

Run, shaw, run!

Posted by shaw on Aug-11-2011 23:40:

You figured out my strategy. Crap.

Notation is absolute (i.e. b2 is always b2, c3 always c3, etc.). The numbers go according to white's view of the board (lower numbers are closer, earlier letters are toward the left).
