Yeah that's pretty much how I feel about it. I'm not really planning for/against kids either way.

Posted by phyrrus on Nov-10-2011 00:59:

I think that there is absolutely no romance or adventure in planning for pregnancy. Granted I am not about to toss all my jimmy hats out the window, because there is a difference between planning for a wanted pregnancy and planning against an unwanted one. But despite the massive fear associated with how to "prepare" for a child, I imagine at a certain point in my life I will just say fuck it, the time is right for fucking it.

Besides, I think nature's prophylactic will carry me just fine.

Saying "I'm not going to plan" is basically saying, "I want a kid, but I don't really care when it comes."

They weren't perfectly fine, they were just overlooked. When the cure for smallpox was discovered, I have no doubt there were a lot of people saying "in my day, we didn't need no smallpox vaccine. We sucked it up. Kids these days are pussies".

It's largely about parenting.

OR at least family life. Siblings have a big effect too.

Yeah, I guess my question was pretty harsh. It really can be beneficial when used correctly.

I am curious, did you take medicine for your ADD or did you chose another route?

I went through a few medications, not knowing the diagnosis would finally be ADD, as it hadn't yet gotten the exposure at the time. I was on Ritalin for years, then Adderall. They worked wonders for me, and I eventually learned to turn the limitations of ADD into abilities that most others did not have.

I'm really undecided. A baby's cry drives me up the wall. Only thing is I'm the last one to carry on my name... My luck I'd have all girls since I been around electronics just about half my life now.

i have a feeling that it is more than that

Posted by Blake on Nov-10-2011 03:43:

kids can go suck a fuck! who has that kind of time!?

personally, i think i'm way too patient to be a good parent. i can't yell at children, let alone hit them, and sometimes [read: all the fucking time!] that's what being a good parent requires. my dad was the same way. fuck that shit! i'll contribute to humanity through my work.

wouldn't consider having kids unless i had enough money to pay someone else to raise them . I feel bad for people who wan't kids and can't have them, but all of the people I've met (in their 40's or older) who've purposely chosen not to have children, look about 15 years younger than their age, have a shitload of energy & money, and are extremely active (i.e. flying from US to Europe on weekends to take part in cross-country bike tours, triathlons etc).

Eh, sometimes it's exaggerated, yeah. I think it's still super common though. Mandatory detention or punishment doled out by parents who suppose their children are out of control. I get kids being fucking stress machines that just push you to the limit, but then there are still millions of parents who fucking load their children up with the same chemicals they do their own failure adult bodies, then scream at them and beat them for acting out of line. Children are not just tiny adults; they don't understand.

I don't think I'd want to raise a child in this fucked up day and age. Dno if I'd want to leave him/her with a pile of bigger shit than what we're facing worldwide atm

That and I don't want to look 60 years old when I'm 35

That's possible, but speculative. You have no evidence-only supposition.

Yeah, I'm gonna just go ahead and let that one speak for itself.

I'm probably missing something relating to smallpox there, but my point is that just because they didn't have a treatment at a given time, that doesn't mean any given condiition/disease didn't exist at that time.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Nov-10-2011 05:35:

^yeah but just because you medicate/treat 'something' doesn't mean that something actually exists either

Posted by WittyHandle on Nov-10-2011 05:40:

You're right, mental diseases are unable to be scientifically proven, so they must not exist.

Posted by srussell0018 on Nov-10-2011 05:44:

You don't think that some kids are just hyper and/or easily distracted? It seems to be similar to throwing anti-depressants at anyone who isn't as adept at dealing with sadness/disappointment/etc. It's not that mental disorders don't exist, it's that many of them are vastly over-diagnosed.

Posted by WittyHandle on Nov-10-2011 05:51:

^ Absolutely. There's actually a massive Adderall shortage right now across the country. There's no official reason being offered, but the most popular theory is that since it is a controlled substance, the DEA allows only a certain amount to be made each year. Given the overwhelming increase in Adderall scrips being given out, that limit has been reached, and no more will begin to be produced until January. It is far too liberally thrown about.

I want some. I've probably had ADHD for years (since school). Seeing that multiple doctors said I did and I cant concentrate worth crap.

So, go and see a doctor. You live in a country where shit like that is so incredibly easy to get, it's just not funny (or, it's incredibly funny, depending on which way you look at it )

I know a lot of people here who have lied their way into benzo prescriptions too. IT'S AN EPIDEMIC
