Anyone can drive fast. Can you brake at fast speeds well though?

I was minding my own business when all these cars starts moving past me. I was probably going 60mph. So I decided to move it a bit and well I was at 90mph+ by then but as I wanted to go into the left lane from the middle some one decided to change lanes to the left as well so I went from probably 90+ to 20/30 skidding and actual lost some control and bounced off the left wall median.

I immediately slowed down pissed off I hit my car but happy I did not hit anyone else. I pulled off the highway to asess the damage and did not see shit!(not even my mirror was damaged) Drove away saying to myself braking at fast speeds of excess 80+ is not safe unless no one and I mean no one is around you!

shit dude that's crazy....but why would you let your car that fast to begin with? I dunno, me personally, if my car isn't on cruise control, I'm constantly watching the speed. I think in the past few years, i've really kept it to just 5 over on average (sometimes up to 10 if people around me are pissing me offlol)

I been trying not to speed. I mean I did get my 1st real deal speeding ticket recently(Oct.) that I felt like shit getting:
89 Mph the cop clocked me at but he was hiding to the side. LUCKILY the ticket he gave me was for not obeying the speed limit sign so it had nothing to do with the amount of speed over the limit. 115$ but I don't like to give away $$ so I am trying hard so I cruise at 80 but say to myself do not even think about going above! Shit is hard when I been doing stuff like that for the past 7/8 years driving on parkways/expressways alot with traffic and with none.

Sometimes I am very punctual so when I hit the road and want to reach some place at a certain time I take great lengths to do it because I am sick of slow ass drivers, red lights, stop signs,no turn om red,etc that keep me from my destiation.

In the end I don't care if you cut me off and pass me crazy fast but don't hit me and same goes if I am the crazy driver. My intentions are to help myself and play defense as well but sometimes some cars don't follow the rules and fuck things up.

When I was in the army I passed out at a stop sign and got a DUI. My army buddy, who was in rehab at the time, loaned me his car while he was gone. I don't know how I passed out while the car was still in drive, and I don't remember running from and getting tackled by the cops. Long story short, I ended up in rehab with him lol. His car was towed too, which ended up costing me $600.

I also hit someone in my 1976 Chevy Caprice in a parking lot. Not going to go into that one, but I swear it wasn't my fault.

I was in an accident too. Had no insurance - health or auto - so I literally walked away with broken ribs and a totaled front end of my other car.

I've spent most of my life walking. In Florida, that can be a bitch.

Once I stopped at a red light at like 3am with nobody in site. Must've stayed there for at least 2 minutes. Crazy, man.

Not in a car but close enough.

There really is a red light near where my school's campus was that didn't have any sensors or anything to indicate there were cars waiting. There were times where I'd be there with nobody else around, and the light would stay red for at least a few minutes. Always so tempting to just go.

i usually go in situations like that. double-check for cops and then go. i hate when that shit happens though.

They have hidden cameras on a lot of the lights around here. You'll run a stop light and see a big flash behind you, then get a ticket in the mail a few weeks later.

In Long Island they tell you on a sign that says "PHOTO ENFORCED"
No one even pays them anyways so waste of $$.

My favorite is when Ambulances/Fire trucks have to get to a call and the people in front of them won't budge because they don't want the redlight flash ticket.

Posted by Trancealot on Jan-13-2012 01:00:

No matter what they are only going to add more shit to slow everyone down like lights, stop signs, no turn on reds, red left signals, no turn left signs,no turn signs until light chanes, speed limit at 50mph on a normal two lane highway, WTF.

I will drive thru someone if it was physically possible! LOL

I just do my thing, watch out for cops when needed and respect other drivers by not using my hi-beams!! I hate that shit behind me leading me to drive fast so there not on me anymore.

I was being sarcastic. I am not that cruel but took that from a newspaper article about the red light cameras and their affect it has for making $$ for the town but as said above. Some will move and some will not.

never had that happen, but totally understandable. so let me correct myself, stop signs i'll run slightly frequently, stoplights are dependent on the situation and my mood.

Wouldn't they get a ticket then for not yielding to an emergency vehicle?

If a cop was around sure. But the cameras won't flash just for that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think over here if you don't yield to an emergency vehicle the driver/passenger of said vehicle can just take down your licence plate and report you, and you'll be sent a ticket in the mail. Bus drivers can actually do the same if they catch you parked in a bus zone.

Probably makes it easier to fight the ticket though, I dunno.

Was this 3 hours after your 3rd tequila shot? Cuz you're like...totally endangering peoples lives, man.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 17:37:

I had one drink the day before, so I admit I was taking a risk.

Posted by Trancealot on Jan-14-2012 19:41:

I drank and drove once. Don't know how much I was over the limit but here is my reasoning. It was my birthday and my GF go into a small paint scratch accident on the way home. She was afraid to drive after that so I did but I drove straight edge because I knew I had a lot or more than my average of 1 or two beers. I drove the speed limit, stopped at red lights and all stop signs, etc. I did not do this again and tend no to.

I bet a large % of drviers out there has done it at least once and for the ones than made it home thank god they did not hurt anyone. If you do it normally then you know why you got a DWI or hurt someone, etc and hope you learned from it.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 20:10:

I know at least a dozen people who regularly drive well over the legal limit and have never had any kind of alcohol related citation, have never hurt themselves or others, and have never been in any kind of accident of any kind while under the influence.

Like I said, stupid people get in accidents whether they're drunk or not. Intelligent people recognize that they're drunk, and compensate by driving a lot more carefully than they normally would if they weren't drunk.

Posted by OrangestO on Jan-14-2012 20:36:

It all has to do with wrong place, wrong time. There's more drivers under the influence out there than people would think.

Getting a DUI, unless it's a blatant disregard for the road and law, is all predicated on where the cops are and if they notice your driving. Most people get away with it.

My uncle's been driving with a beer in his hand for 30+ years and hasn't had an incident. Others aren't as lucky, even if involves a casual drink or two.

I think geographic location has to do with it too. Florida is known for its vast number of DUI offenders; that's why the scooter is widely popular down here. No need for a driver's license lol. Cops down here look for that shit left and right.

Posted by srussell0018 on Jan-14-2012 20:38:

Sure if you get stopped at random checkpoints. But people who obey traffic laws tend to not get pulled over for no reason. If you're not speeding or swerving all over the road they're not just going to randomly pull people over.

The South doesn't work like that. They stop people down here for anything, anytime.

I can pull up the arrest report from last night in any one of the major cities in Florida and I'd bet there's a substantial difference in DUI arrests as oppose to NYC or Boston.
