Seriously, I dont see whats so special about him. He's just a regular producer. His tracks are as good as any other track (or maybe a little less quality..) and his DJing is as good as any other DJ (or maybe a little less quality..) these days. You guys act like his stuff is just sooo amazing.

Sometimes I start to wonder if its just his name that sells. I wonder if he slapped together an utterly cheesey track in less than no time and released it, would people go insane with comments such as "omg! PvD new style! this is the new sound of trance! I die!" Probably so He was better a couple years ago than today anyway.. he's declining now imo.

For the record, no he does not suck, and no he is not great. He is just good, just like heaps of other producers today.

My 2

And you all know that that Zurdo soundtrack is all just for money. Why else would someone as hyped and respected as PvD do the soundtrack for some random Mexican film?

So true. But say if Tiesto mixed that, he would be 'the worst dj ever and a huge sellout' But since PvD did it its ok.

Good PR people.

Did you see that specialised cd of his for Latin America? what a commercial cheeze monger! Who does he think he is? Judge Jules or something? He is an absolute DISGRACE!

Mr. Carlos Salces, the movie producer and director, saw and met Paul in 1994 in mexico. Last year, He saw him again in march for his gig in Mexico city and he had the thought get Paul to make the soundtrack for his movie. Why not? Is a new experience on Paul`s career. Regarding to the the money issue? I doubt this since I don`t think many latin-american people would support PvD as USA/Europe does. Perhaps if it had a global release, then I would say yes.

and for you that are dissapointed, remember this is just a soundtrack, not an 'artist' album. His album will come in 2003 and can just say it will be VERY surprising for many.

cheers,

f0x

Commercial? As far as I know the soundtrack is only available in Mexico.

Commercial? PvD produces tons of amazing tracks which never get released.

Commercial? PvD's emotions were running high when he read the script. It's got nothing to do with money, he just put all his energy into something he believes in.

Commercial? Without the internet nobody would ever found out about this project.

Commercial? That director of the movie was amazed by PvD when he was in Mexico a couple of years. He asked PvD, because he thought only PvD could make the right music to the scenes.

BUT: I really only like 3 tracks of the soundtrack album. The rest kinda sucks without the movie

Random Mexican film??? You obviously are ignorant to the fact that Mexican cinema is undergoing through a Reinassance unlike other film industries around the world. In the last two years 3 movies have been released that own 95% of the stuff made in Hollywood. If it was for the money he could easily make a soundtrack for any shitty Hollywood movie and be paid three times as much. I'm not even Mexican, but your comment has condescending overtones that should not be tolerated and some people could take it as offensive. Oh, and I'm not even a big PvD fan either btw but the man deserves his due respect.

Confused? No.

It's like people who hate progressive, yet Armin spins progressive tracks in A State of Trance every week, and people like it. Like others have said, Paul van Dyk is overrated, son.

Bedrock, if you are still reading this thread, Paul van Dyk is REALLY an excellent producer, just take a look at this top 10 tunes (my favorites IMHO)

1. Out There And Back
2. For an angel
3. My world
4. Tell Me Why
5. Words
6. Animacion
7. Another Way
8. Autumn
9. How we used to live (PvD dub mix)
10. Nothing But You

They are masterpieces, some of them are classics, some of them are very new, he has always been a great DJ and most of his remixes are really quality, so I have to disagree with you. Maybe you didnt like his latest album (I havent heard it yet, so I cant say anything) or maybe you dont like his style at all; but that doesn`t give you the right to say something like He is a disgrace to trance, please try to show some respect.

NOW ABOUT THE FLAMES:

After being witness of hundreds of Tiesto-flaming threads, I finally see a PvD-flaming thread. And I have discovered why this is so uncomfortable for many people here: Just as the Tiesto-flaming threads you have to see that there is just a FEW people who start the flame war by saying aggressive and false things like:
quote:
...this guy makes absolute shit....
...How has this weiner become so popular?...
...what a commercial cheeze monger!...

quote:
...they are al lshit now....
...he sucks...

quote:
...Paul van Dyk sucks...
...productions all sound the same...

To those people: Just try to avoid sentences like he sucks or he is shit, as simple as that.
And is always the same small group of people who disrespects not only the artist but the many followers it has, by hijacking threads and using unnecessary and rude sentences. Those are the people who should be banned.

In other hand, everyone who says something like progressive sucks or its all boring, is not only saying a WHOLE genre of music is crap (which is a closed-minded thought), but is also disrespecting the thousands of followers of the genre; so please avoid this kind of useless and flame-inducing sentences.

For me, and maybe for many other people, this forum is like a second home so please behave (or be banned)

You must also know when it's either sarcasim or somebodys personal opinion.

Mmm what a thread, I mean, I wouldnt call it a clash between progressive and trance, since this thread was made by a very SMART ASS who is mad bored and has got nothing to do. Honestly, from what I saw through out the pages , this BEDROCK kid appears to show how looser and fool of himself he is, has got no idea of what his talking about but to just go blablablalbalblablalblablablablablabla .. a thread not to pay attention to, was just wondering whow was the next .. REEETAARD!
