For me, trance music represents hope... When I listen to it, I feel this inner sense of hope for the world around me... I think it's safe to say that hope in the modern world is not simple... I don't wake up every day with this soulful sense of hope because every day I'm shown on a large scale that the world is so full of everything that is bad....

Yes, most trance music follows a simple structure...most music does. Most all songs in a specific genre follow some patern. That's what makes a musical form.. much like Baroque or Rock and Roll, or jazz. Beats, scales, and the layout of the song...

But, on a much deeper level, trance really tugs at the soul on a deep level.... A lot of chorale and classical music is very soulfuly moving, some rock like Pink Floyd, and even some pop. But, I think that trance attracts mostly complex and deep people because we're able to connect with a part of ourselves that a lot of people in the world never connect with. We love that complex feeling of a musical journey that triggers some type of emotion and moves us to express it through dance.

Anyway, so in summary, yes it's simple, but it's also complex. A state of trance is not a simple state for most people and not a state most simple people can reach.....

Some idiot resurrected this thread, and some other idiots missed the posts that told everyone this.

Kelis - Milkshake is a simple song and it is making shit loads of money! Ha! I dont listen to music to be complicated. If I want something to be complicated, I will pull out a calculus book.

I don't see any problem with ppl resurrecting threads. At least they use the 'search' button before making a new thread of the same topic. And also, this is a discussion board.

Yea. But this thread has no real value. Trance is simple (to those who understand it) and that's the beauty of it. On the other hand my father says he hates trance because "it's too intense".

read only 3 pages...

hi

i'd like to say i don't agree with you...i do agree on the jazz part. jazz is one of the most hardest generes to master, i listend to some live stuff on TV, and i was really amazed how 4 people putting up melodies, drums vocals for 1 hour out of their head..yes they can practice, but it's just to amazing...

now to your point

i really think you need to start to produce, you make it all sounding so easy...

first Trance i think has several purpouses...if you make something to dance on, repeatative is a way..but don't misunderstand me pls, just because i said repeatative, don't mean everything has to be easy..

in Trance music, everything has to fit, the leads, perc, fx, atmosphere, strings and on and on ...that my friend, aint really easy...do you think trance tunes get made in like 30 mins? just make a melody and copy and paste it in a sequencer? i really wish..

you need to open your eaars...have you ever heard the tune of Filo and Peri- Elevation? pls do so, it's one of the most complicated tunes i heard..

just try to devide all the instruments, and how they edit them with phasers, reverbs etc...

to make a trance tune you have to be creative, after your creation is done THEN YOU GO COPY AND PASTE...

I find that many trance tracks are produced very poorly and are shallow, and that's the opposite of what trance really is.

The fact that trance is catching in third world places like Afghanistan is amazing.

Poorly produced? Who cares?

The only point to this thread is an elitist trying be the elite of the elitists .

Posted by futurefoton929 on Mar-15-2004 02:03:

I've skimmed over the posts so I might be missing out on some stuff here. Nevertheless, the orginal poster hit in on the mark by stating that a lot of trance music out there is formulaic and simple. This is obviously a subjective matter, but it is interesting nonetheless to debate about the issue. Some of the more interesting euphoric/progressive trance are 1) binary finary 1999 (somewhat interesting chord progression), 2) some stuff by Max Graham (same reason as 1)), and 3) Gus Gus - Purple (very creative synth/bassline convolution).

Posted by Skaya on Mar-15-2004 04:03:

I don't listen to trance because it's complex, I listen to trance because I love it.

Complex trance melodies always deserve a nod though, That's why all of Max Graham's particularly trancy tracks always own me.

EDIT: Damnit Futurefoton, you beat me to the punch!

BRANMUFFIN IS FROM AUSTIN, JUST CUZ THEY GOT A SMALL MUSIC SCENE THAT IS PRAISED BY ARTISTS FROM THE LIKES OF WILLIE NELSON AND SOME OTHER COUNTRY BUMPKINS THEY THINK THEY GOT IT MADE. I LIVE IN SAN ANTONIO, WHICH IS A LOT MORE HUGE THAN AUSTIN AND MORE INTERESTING WITH 10 TIMES AS MANY CLUBS AS THEIR TINY STRIP THEY CALL 6TH ST, AND WE'VE HAD SOME OF THESE NEO-ELITISTS FROM AUSTIN COME TO OUR RECORD STORES, STORES LIKE FYE OR SAM GOODY, MIND YOU...AND THEY START MAKING SCENES LIKE "YOU'LL DON'T HAVE JOHNNY LANG?!?! HOW BOUT ALISON KRAUSS?? OH MY GOD! YOU PEOPLE ARE SO NOT ALTERNATIVE!" WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT JOHNNY LANG!!! AND YOU'RE IN FYE YOU STUPID F@CK!!! THEY JUST FAIL TO REALLY LOOK AROUND AND GO TO THE MANY "ALTERNATIVE," PER SE, RECORD STORES THAT WE HAVE. NOT BEING BIASED, BUT IT IS SO TRUE. YOU SUCK YOU AUSTIN F@CKS!!

Er... fuck off?

And please, nobody carry on this discussion, it's as old as the hills and twice as covered.

When you're a specialist in something then this something is always simple right?

Why only trance is simple?
Why you're not saying then hardcore, techno, ambient, etc etc all are simple?

FFS. This is a two year old thread. Let it drop.

Posted by Googooly on Aug-08-2005 20:29:

I've read most of the posts in this thread and I can say most people put such a great defence to trance music, i sure as hell could not put such words.

I just wanna say that trance might be smiple but its one of the hardest gener of music to make, just put it the right melodys together can take hell of skill and tallents...

besides ALL music geners are simple and repitive if you consider trance as repitive, but thats not a big deal, that how it meant to be!

when I listen to trance music I get this good feeling that no other music genre can give me that.

Trance is the only music genre that when you listen to it, it doesnt talk about war/crime/wealth etc.. except love and friendship.

besides I have never heard of msuic(trance) being intelligente before, bcoz IT DOESNT NEED TO BE! as long as I enjoy iy thats enugh for me.

Posted by NuDarkBeat on Aug-08-2005 20:39:

damn there are a lot of people in this thread that say shit with no base to their opinions. trance is very simple music, in a way TRUE trance is kind of primitive b.c it really is meant to entrance you with its overly repeptitive beats. I am talking about the old shit from the early 90's.
