Unlimited incoming (voice) is super valuable, allowed me to ditch the wired phone forever. Even with my wimpy $25 plan there's no worries about minutes on most of my calls.
Now if they allowed us to carry over minutes month to month like in USA, that would be "the cat's ass"

Anyone know what the recent charges on Rogers for MSN Messanger to cellphone ?
I know a few yrs back it would cost 0.10/msg
Rogers use to charged it as a e.mail txt msg. Since we got free incoming ... for the longest time, have they came to their sense and realize it;s a normal txt msg?

My little story of why I got an iPhone ... to be 100% honest here, theres a good side and the very ugly side to this unit.
I really had no choice, signed the $17.50 3 yr EPP and had to get a phone. Why bother signing that term and later on you'll have to sign X amount of more yrs to get another phone. Thought about it for days and days .... Roger's recent inventory is totally shit. Most PDA units are too expensive; and yes, the New Treo Pro is coming out the end of September (from the Palm site) but, not a single carrier has signed with it in North America. Why? Palm w/ WM has never been good at all and they dont have faith (like me) with that unit.
Here is the list of other phones I was about to get
-Nokia N95 - Kick ass phone but, no touch screen and keyboard
-BlackBerry Bold - Way too much and no touch screen. I feel the unit was rushed way too fast to compete with the iPhone. Too much problems already and even AT&T has delayed it for so long. Long live the Curve!
-BlackBerry Thunder - I was tears when I saw that leaked video. My hopes were all gone and but, I still gotta pay my respects for their efforts.
-Windows Mobile Units - HELLLLLLLLLL NO! I rather go back to my first cell phone.
iPhone - THE BAD
Everything I bitched about was just the tip of the ice burg. The fucked up thing is, finding more shit that's so limited / restricted everyday has made me wonder. Soon, I might even have to ask Steve Jobs for permission to call home. It's really inhuman what Apple is doing to this unit. If the gates were opened, this could be the ultimate phone. The major problem we all know is the no psychical keyboard. Typing is such a bitch, landing the wrong keys, re-typing shit and the worst part, the auto spelling shit sometimes make me scream to myself, I want to type this, NOT this! Yes, I know it can learn and I have to get use to it, but the fact is a lot ppl cant adjust. I can go on and on and on and on about the flaws (Not like I didn;t already). I've had the unit crashed 2x on me already with doing normal things and running stock apps.
iPhone - THE GOOD
I'll be honest here ... I totally understand why ppl big up this unit so much. Most of these ppl never had a PDA Phone or was annoyed at their current OS or theyre the ultra Apple cock sucking fan boyz that would swallow for Steve Jobs. Anyways, on to the good side of things, the fun factor is pretty high, but doesn't razzle-dazzle me too much, since I've used a Treo for almost 6yrs. Like I said before, the hardware I can not knock at all ... it's impressive. Apple's interface has always been really solid with everything they do, but their controlling policies are beyond bullshit.
In the end I realize I must carry two units with me. The day I went to sign for this @ Rogers, I was asking some mainland chinamon computer geek about how good or bad is the iPhone. He was straight up with me and I gotta BIG UP for that. He too, also has to carry two units with him, an iPhone and Windows Mobile unit. He said "The iPhone is not so great, but it's so amazing to play around with. When it's time to be serious and do business on the Go, the Motorola must be used and I can't waste a single time trying to correct my typing or trying to find certain apps / software to use
Thanks to Apple's cheese ass GPS w/ no turn by turn navigation and no detailed maps, my lovely Treo still kicks ass in this field with the help of TomTom and Garmin. I seriously can't live or drive without it. Still treat this unit with more care then the iPhone. (Gonna play ping pong soon with the iPhone as my paddle, screen facing out) I'm gonna get a SIM cloner so I can use both units with the same account and number, just have to be careful that they are not running at the same time or else Roger's will ban my ass forever. It's true though, when it's time to get serious with shit, I use the Treo 10x more. I know some dude that switches phones every 3 months has tried every single PDA Phone. He still big ups the Treo 680 the most out of all the units.
Finally ... I can live without the iPhone and keep the Treo if I was gonna sell it. No biggie too me at all. Why didnt I wait until Palm comes out with the Nova OS? Its taking way too long; there is no signs of a prototype running with the new OS. Since it's coming out mid 2009, time is running way too tight for them. The CEO made a very stupid statement which caused Palm to lose all their stocks that day, "The success with Nova is not based on the hardware, but the software is the key" Personally; we all can see thats the wrong choice here. Times are diff and to be successful now, you must need both hardware and software to keep in the game. (Wink wink ... Windows Mobile) Palm is slowly moving out of the picture and if they do pick the WM path ... we all know what the ending will be. For them to get back in the game, they gotta come out with a unit that will turn heads like the iPhone, but I doubt that very much.
PS
Thank you Emery, I was gonna post up my story this weekend ... but you had to leak it out! LOL
lol...
Forgot to mention, for those who are doing a hardware upgrade and changing your plan to this EPP $17.50 ... you gotta follow this step.
You MUST get the hardware upgrade first; if not ... some codes in the system will not allow you to get a new phone if you've changed to a certain plan.
A very nice CSR informed me about this. Ive listened to her, followed her advice and tonight I was very successful in changing my plan. If you get a CSR telling you this plan is corp plan, it's BS. And it's extremely BS if they try to stop you from changing your plan after a hardware upgrade. Hang up and call them again tomorrow. They pulled that shit with my friend tonight, and he wasted 2 hrs of hold time.
Good Luck!

On a lighter note, new firmware update for my N82. Woo!
The Thunder video just showed how retarded that guy was, not how bad the phone is.

6 days later ... here's the qaulity of the iPhone 3G.
-4 Dead Pixels, one massive dead pixel in the most noticable spot and found this sucker on the first night when I got the unit.
*Seen 4 units with this problem and now 5*
-Dust between the LCD + Digitzire
-Housing is flaking and peeling near one of the edges.
Pls do this check on your iPhone asap to get it swapped for a new unit
iPhone 3G Dead Pixel Check
Follow the steps and youll most likely find one or many dead pixels, I strongly suggest you to do this check once every 3 weeks.
1- Create a jpg thats 480px by 320px Full Black
2- Sync it to your iPhone
3- Turn up your screen 100% Bright & turn off the lights
4- View that jpg in full screen mode landscape format
5- Position the iPhone in front of your face and make sure its level to your face. Start tilting it down slowly, and start looking. Repeat this a few times and make sure your entire LCD has been examined. The dead pixels will appear green.
I thought I was the very few that had this bad luck, but my GFs unit was checked today and found 4 tiny dead pixels that are not noticeable in normal lighting. Both of our units are less then a week old.
Another solution for iPhone 3G Dead Pixels
You might have a stuck pixel; to cure this and release them is simple
1- Get the application called FlashLight from the iTunes store.
2- Turn up your screen 100% Bright & turn off the lights
3- Set the application Strobe mode, let it run
4- Position the iPhone in front of your face and make sure its level to your face. Start tilting it down slowly, and start looking. Repeat this a few times and make sure your entire LCD has been examined. The dead pixels will appear green.
This method has a 20% success rate and you could be lucky to release it.
Since you have a 1 year Warrantee, book an appointment with the G BAR (GayBar) aka Genius Bar *they only wish they were at this level* and they will replace it when you come in. They are going to pull some shit; LCDs arent perfect and blah blah blah but, you have 90% chance they will replace it, if they are big and located in the most annoying spots.
Thank you Apple for such quality products and a proper QC!

I have at least 7-8 dead pixels.
I have had the for the past 2 months? maybe more?
Another thing i have is "wifi charging" yup wireless charging. Because once an a while once i disconnect the phone, it still shows its charging and my home screen is the battery status bar. THEN sometimes it wont even register that the phone is charging when its connected.
Ohh yeah it also has a big crack on the screen (still). I am waiting to abuse it a tad bit more before i go get a new one.
