With the pace of 3G and 4g accelerating, and people are getting pretty good speeds, I think WiMax may become useless for the city. Rogers has stopped pushing their WiMax service in toronto, and is now pushing their 'usb 3g stick' for mobile internet.

yeah AT&T has already been pushing this hard in the US too

wonder if it'll also spell the death of satellite radio if you can simply stream all your music instead

Posted by Orko on Oct-21-2008 16:16:

Nah. They won't have 3g connectivity in rural areas, and outside the city. It only makes sense for them to put the transmitters and receivers in high density areas. Plus with the download caps the ISPs seems to love, I'm sure you could eat through your limit in no time.

Tell me about it.

I'm 6 days into my billing cycle and i've already used 11.847GB.

Only 49.592GB left

Not having enough bandwidth is worse than being broke!

So I'm importing all the contacts off of my SIM card onto my storm, and I really need to manage them better. I have duplicate enteries for all my europe numbers. Like a +38162 for when calling from here a 062 when I'm over there and calling local... etc.

Can I just rename all of them with (+ country code) + number so I can just call them from wherever?

I know here, you can just dial +1 infront of every number, so you don't have to deal with being in Toronto or outside of it.

I guess my questions are:
1. Can you just append (+ country code) infront of every number so you dont have to deal with that anymore?
2. Do you get unnecessary long distance charges? Like if I'm in Toronto and I call my friend with another 416 number but I use +1416, will Rogers ream me?

When you say Storm, you mean the new Blackberry right?

1. Yes, just enter the phone nubmber with the appropriate country at the front.
2. No, I have every single one of my phone numbers to automatically default to +1 on my Pearl, and don't get charged long distance.

Yes storm,

1. Does this work in every country though? I know it works here, but I cant remember if it worked while I was in Europe. I may have had to explicitely just dial 062-xxx-xxxx instead of +31862-xxx-xxxx
for an eg.
Not sure. :/

2. Thanks!

some hardcore Rogers haters here might take delight in this news..

Ted Rogers In Hospital, Steps Aside As CEO Of Rogers

Saturday November 1, 2008
The Canadian Press

Ted Rogers has handed over the reigns of Rogers Communications after being admitted to hospital.

The 75-year-old Rogers has what the company calls an "existing cardiac condition."

The self-made billionaire will temporarily step aside as CEO with Rogers board chairman Alan Horn filling in on an interim basis.

The company says the length of Rogers' leave will be determined by his overall health and medical progress.

Rogers last spoke publicly as recently as Tuesday during a conference call.

Rogers Communications, which he and his family control, is Canada's largest cable T-V operator and cellphone company worth about 18.3 billion dollars.

It now owns the Toronto Blue Jays and their home the Rogers Centre, five Citytv stations, as well as the Rogers cable, wireless, radio and television businesses.

Don't believe so. But I don't know because this is just what I read on other forums.

I also read that all new plans are only for a maximum of 2-year contracts. they got rid of 3-year contracts.

Personally, I checked out this plan, and my current plan is still better than the new ones even if add the SAF & 911.

The new plans are okay, but definitely nothing special.

yeh i never ot any announcements either.

appaently, all the previous plans are now grandfathered and won't be able to recieve the no saf or 911 fee.

one thing that really sucks is that unlimited incoming is now an option for $10. so in most cases, your existing plan is still better than the new ones even though you're paying for the saf and 911.

yeah I just took a quick read through on Howard Forums as well and they seem to be expressing a fairly balanced opinion on the change. Although it does undercut some of the Koodo plans which is a good thing to see.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that the looming Globalive has already started to have a small effect and they haven't even launched yet!

Looked at it briefly earlier this morning. Pricing seems pretty fair actually.

Can get a very encompassing plan (with options) for $45 in (not including taxes).

Nice! Well done, Fido!

(Still like my current Solo one better though )

******S! I just signed up for the Killer plan a month ago and had to pay the stupid SAF

though the $15/month plan is a JOKE! I have a $17.50/month promo plan and I have 200 minutes, that one has 50!
