i finally got around to taking some leg shots...i'm kinda disappointed with the way quad looks in the pic...i promise they are pretty good. right now my thighs are right around 24.5" and the calf is getting close to 15.5"....i think the distance really makes the quad look like shit though

Posted by Floorfiller on Feb-09-2005 05:35:

oh and orbax...that shit you're eating looks nasty hehehe ...

but hey...whatever works right

Posted by Orbax on Feb-09-2005 05:50:

Firetruck that dude, when I started lifting I weighed 160.

I'll jump out of a window if you give up the dream.

Mine are 16" unflexed and don't look that big. Then again, maybe it's lighting/shadowing/tannage

dude...you could have calves easily...i just think it's a difference in training style. look what you said earlier...you just hike and don't train legs...well...i do a lot of calf work with standing calf machines, seated calf machines etc...it's just the way you're training...and really look at your calf pic...you're really not that far off...

yeah i like to do the different toe positions to work the inner, outer, and middle of the calf...

well...it certainly isn't tan hahaha...but maybe the lighting i dunno...here is a pic of them from before i flexed them...and i also take calf measurements unflexed...so that 15.5" i said...that's an unflexed number...

i'll post a calf routine when i get to work for those that are interested...

Maybe you're a 5'0 midget with 15"5 cavles then? I'm 6"0 and I think my 16" calves look like toothpicks in comparison to yours

Eat more. It you want to be big you have to eat big. I can not overemphasize that point enough. I'm hovering around the 185-190 mark and I still think I'm thin. Then again, maybe you're a midget too?

hahaha...well...i'm actually right about where you are. i'm 6'0-6'1ish...and i weight about 187 lst time i weighed myself...so i can't explain it. the only other thing i can think of is i'm actually pretty small-boned. so really everything i have is from work...maybe that's the difference i dunno...

but really orbax...when i started working out...i was just as light as you were...i promise hehehe...i'm naturally a skinny person...

anyway...here is some of the stuff i like to do for calves...

first off as Nrg2Nfinit mentioned...you gotta be doing the different toe positions to target the different parts of the calf. and they are opposite the area you want to work...if you point your toes in...it'll work the outside of the calf more...if you point your toes out...it'll work the inside more...

really all i usually do is standing and sitting calf raises. the gym that i joined has a donkey calf machine so i'm probably gonna start trying that but haven't really yet.

when i'm doing sitting and standing calf raises...i usually try to hit somewhere between 15-20 reps per set. training calves takes a lot of work so the more reps the better right? also...after i do a set...i like to stand up and just kind of do some toe raises without the weight...hold the wall or something hehehe...it really burns them good when you do that.

really i don't have anything else i really do...just i think the difference is that i work them more then you guys...so just make sure you're doing the calves on leg day or whatever and they'll get there...

oh and make sure you stretch all the way down in the motion...and go slow...that's what really works...slow and full range of motion...which isn't hard to do on calves...

that actually makes sense. I was doing sets of 10x10 and lately ive been doing stuff differently with small under developed muscles like my lats. Ill just do like 5x15 so they get stimulated.

and eating does nothing to me lol. I was eating , no shit, at least 7000-10,000 calories a day and it tooke me 2 months to gain 10 lbs. to be honest I was also still running 5 miles a day and working out every day haha...so yeah that probably had something to do with it.

I just hate even the smallest bit of fat and destroy it with prejudice every time it appears.

Hopefully all this up hill running i do to the gym will help calves out. I have 3 hills about 100 meters tall each on the way there and lots of other inclines. I never slow velocity even up hills and on the last 2 100 meter sections I sprint as hard as I can. now that im runnin there and back it would be hard to do a calf work out and then run back hehe.

but im probably gonna just have to do it one of these times ;(

if you're not gaining just eat more, even if it's 10,000, one thing you should try is cream in your protein shakes, in my opinion is like liquid majik for gaining. as well as that, you cut way too much, you don't let yourself gain the way you keep trying to get rid of fat, at least gain a furthur 20lbs then cut. and cut down on running

Posted by Floorfiller on Feb-09-2005 21:09:

yeah...it's really about the way a lot of you train. i mean...probably the easiest way to gain muscle is to put on some extra weight and then lean it down later. a lot of you guys try to do both at the same time...which is cool...just a lot slower...

Posted by Orbax on Feb-09-2005 22:42:

im just waiting for my metabolism to slow down hehe. Only 3 more years

Someone reccomend me a protein powder real quick, I'm about to place an order. I was thinking some of this (link). No extra calories or sugar or anything, just protein.

ummm, i stretch then i do weight - light ones - 10lb for 15 reps, 3 time a spot, and then eliptical machine for 25-30 min - tredmill or bike to cool down for 5-10 min - stretch it out - and once a week i got swimming and I always work out at noon!

then head to work Ciao!

it's ok routine fo rme - for now - that's all - any suggestions??

oh yeah -eatting less at night is KEY to success to and anthony Robibin's tapes helped with motivation too!

Posted by Orbax on Feb-10-2005 07:06:

what if we get you drunk? OMG i just wrote a long ass email to this latin chick. so much easier to make jokes in english! aye aye!! jejej..

anyway...

that sounds like a good routine Free weights are the best for gettin your body to burn energy. Glad youre lovin it so much ! and also, if you have ANY questions on anything plz ask us, and remember, 99.9% of the people in a gym would LOVE to help you. Half the time i just correct people on what they are doin, nicely, cuz weve all done it wrong at one point, and they appreciate it. And ill ask them tips on how they got such cool traps or something. Everyone has something to learn in there and dont feel weird about asking the huge 6'5 swedish nazi dude, i almost guarantee hes actually pretty cool (we have one of those, hes awesome).

Gluck with it all, swimming was the leanest, tightest muscled ive ever been in my life. good on yah!
