yeah..it's just one of those great bar room debates that will never end

i personally think they're both equally impressive

So I was in Tokyo while A-Rod hit 500 and Bonds tied Aaron.

Guess which event made front pages of the Japanese papers?

A-Rod's 500th homer

Pete Rose had 44 games.

Yeah, I never used to pay much mind to the scoreless inning streak. But yesterday, completely out of the blue, I started to think about it. And all that stuff came in my mind and I realized just how crazy it is to do that.

Hmmm... I don't even think he's close to being the greatest. But, we'll agree to disagree here.

I agree. They both stand alone as by far the most dominant streak in terms of hitting and pitching.

I still think Ted Williams hitting above .400 for an entire season is more impressive, but that's just me.

It's tough to keep Giambi out of the lineup because if you surround him with solid hitters his OBP just goes through the roof. That's all the more crucial in the playoffs when a team's looking to maximize it's runs created on a player by player basis. You do lose a lot with him at first though - it's a toss up.

On another note, I'm miffed as to why the Tigers are struggling so much - their pitching has been awful of late. That said, if any of you guys play fantasy ball then pick up Ryan Raburn. He's putting up some nasty numbers (.358, 3 HRs, 14 RBIs, 13 Runs) in just 53 ABs.

The last day of that season, his batting average was .399, but with percentage points, it rounded up to .400. The manager offered to sit him down for the Double Header the next day so that he'd end the season at .400. Williams declined and went 6 for 8 in those two games.

Sick. Just sick.

edm edit: really enjoyed Rank 1's guest mix on gdjb - has me very excited for sept.

haha I hide that secret pretty well

Really looking forward to my trip to New York in September though - I've been a huge Sander fan ever since his Essential Mix and Rank 1 is an all time great as far as productions go (don't know how well they spin). Throw in Schulz and that's an unbeatable lineup. You guys get some great talent. Just hope they let Sander close - his talent is wasted as an opener.

Is anyone else getting hard watching Joba pitch?

Posted by Vlad on Aug-11-2007 01:51:

omg, im having hot flashes...

Hughes... Joba... Mo... *eyes roll into back of head*

I'm losing wood watching Gagne pitch - the Red Sox could've hired me to come into the 8th and blow four run leads and saved themselves the trouble of shipping Gabbard.

Another brilliant move by the Red Sox - it's as if we don't want to win the pennant.

Don't even get me started, I'm so pissed about this trade. It makes no sense in the long term and very little sense in the short term.

There's virtually no point in trading quality starting pitching for quality relief pitching, especially when you consider how strong our pen was without Gagne. The trade deadline should have been used to address our weaknesses, not strengths. I was hoping to add Dye, even Kielty (which we probably will get) but certainly not an injury prone, over the hill, no room in the rotation for closer.

If Bucholz and Lester don't become strong starters than the Sox are going to regret this trade for a long time.

I couldn't work it out either Ben...You've weakened your pen by adding this guy..Cashman must be laughing his cock off..When Gagne signed for the Sox didn't he say that it was a bad day for the Yankees??..

As for Lester Ben..I can't remember him being any good (correct me if I'm wrong)...The Lester story is a very sad one but he's crap...

Posted by Vlad on Aug-11-2007 06:20:

This is what happens when you do unnecessary things...

Boston gets DiceK, NY gets Igawa out of jealousy.
Boston gets Gagne to numb NY bullpen cause apparenty they arent happy with Okajima.

He's only 23 years old. He's only pitched less than 100 major league innings. In 2005, his ERA was 2.61 in AA. And last year, before being called up, his ERA was 2.70 in AAA.

Posted by Vlad on Aug-12-2007 20:25:

ROFL! Gagne!

Okajima is pulled after recording an out... Gagne comes in, gives up a 2R HR. Francona needs to stick to this philosophy.

Posted by chanman7483 on Aug-12-2007 21:46:

Nice to have Giambi back... I was afraid we'd mess up the chemistry in the lineup bringing him back, like what happened last year w/ Matsui and Sheff. If Torre takes out Melky for any reason at this point to play Damon(who's been DH'ing) in CF and slotting Giambi in as DH, he should be fired on the spot...
