Bears fan loses bet, prepares to change name to Peyton Manning

How do you spell Scott Wiese?

In a few weeks, that'd be P-e-y-t-o-n M-a-n-n-i-n-g.

Wiese, a die-hard fan of the Chicago Bears, signed a pledge in front of a crowd at a Decatur bar last Friday night that if the Bears lost Sunday's Super Bowl, he'd change his name to that of the man who led the Indianapolis Colts to victory.

Final Score: Colts 29, Bears 17.

So on Tuesday, Wiese went to the Macon County Courts Facility and started the process of changing his name.

"I made the bet, and now I've got to keep it," said the 26-year-old, who lives in Forsyth, just north of Decatur.

Wiese will now have to advertise his intention in the local newspaper -- the Herald & Review -- for several weeks and then have a judge give him the OK to become, legally anyway, Peyton Manning.

The men have little in common, Wiese acknowledges.

Manning the quarterback is 30 years old, stands 6-foot-5 and has a contract with the Colts worth more than $100 million.

Wiese is 5-foot-11 and works at a Staples office-supply store for somewhat less.

"I think I kind of represent all Bears fans," he said. "Not that I'm saying they're all idiots like me, but I represent their passion because I really care about my team, you know?"

Wiese's lawyer and friend, Andy Bourey, is handling the paperwork. He said he admires Wiese's sense of honor.

"I never doubted him," he said. "He's a man of his word."

While he pledged to take on the new identity, Wiese isn't sure how long he's willing to keep it.

Say, maybe, until the Bears' next Super Bowl appearance? Not likely, given that their last trip to the big game was in 1985.

"I mean, well, it may be another 21 years."

The Chargers lost their OC, DC and now their Head Coach... wtf...

You fire a coach that takes you to 14-2

I doubt the Chargers will reach the Play-Offs next year

and watch them win the super bowl next year

like i said earlier. LT wasn't upset, because the Pats danced on their logo when the game ended. He knew that this year was his closest shot at the super bowl. He isn't coming close to this now, unless San Diego picks up an offensive minded coach, and some good assistant coaches.

Posted by King Ecnal on Feb-13-2007 17:30:

I love this move, Marty is a tard... team isn't going to win anything with him, kind of SAD that it took Wade Phillips leaving to finally get his ass canned....

and, hello... is anyone else scratching their head about Wade for the Cowboys?????

Does anyone not remember his pathetic ass when he coached the BILLS????

Maybe I saw him TOO much... TWICE a year back then, but he's a horrible head coach....

Jerry Jones is a fuckin idiot!

Posted by Spartan on Feb-13-2007 23:11:

where will Lavar end up? I want him back as a Redskin so I can wear my jersey again.

Posted by Member of X on Feb-14-2007 00:19:

At his position, Lavar Arrington is the most overrated player. Dude is as smart as a box of rocks. He makes Dexter Manley look smart. With that much talent and physical skills and to suck that bad........

I concur, Jerry Jones is an idiot. Wade Phillips? Let's bring back Chuck Knox! I laugh at the Cowgirls.

Who is the most overrated football player? Vern and I were discussing this yesterday. I'm going with Big Ben.

Posted by LeopoldStotch on Feb-14-2007 02:31:

overrated? that's easy. Tom Brady! ....... kidding

there are a few special people that are really overrated in the NFL, such as :

-brett favre : yes he is overrated. yeah yeah he won 1 super bowl, but that was against a bill parcells coached patriots team, and he wasn't considered the MVP of the super bowl! desmond howard stole the trophy away from him)
-Michael Vick : enough said. we can all say wow about his running ability, but we still have to remember he's a quarterback, and we know qb's for their arms, not their legs.
-Jerome Bettis : yeah he's retired. we all know he's overrated. he goes 3 yards and falls down.
-Lamont Jordan : people really wrote high expectations for this guy when he left the jets. they thought he was the next big thing. well some guy named justin fargas stole the job from him.

Posted by Spartan on Feb-14-2007 02:39:

Jeremy Shockey

Posted by Spartan on Feb-14-2007 02:41:

gotta disagree with ya Butters on Jerome Bettis. He was built as a short yardage back and he was more than amazing at it. His career lasted about 5 years longer than most short-yardages backs, and he always came up huge when his team needed him.

Also I just like the guy

Funny because the 3 guys I mentioned to Vern last night were Favre, Vick, and Bettis. So we agree!

Bettis definitely sucks. Sorry. 2 yards and a pile of dirt. Short yardage. Oooooh. Wow so exciting. He gets the tough one yard. What a stud. And Bettis was drafted by the Rams and I don't like him.

fair enough.

next question:

Which will happen first:

Vick takes the Falcons to a superbowl (not necessarily winning it but just taking)

or

Vick gets traded or signs someplace else.

I also still can't believe he flicked off all those ppl on his home field. Bye bye endorsements.

Over-rated... in the last ten years... I think Warren Sapp should be included... he had like ONE good/great year... and he rode that for the rest of his career...

Plaxico Burress SHOULD be included... but he's never had any hype or played WELL enough to ever be considered to be over-rated... he just PLAIN SUCKS... so I'd give it to him if SOMEONE actually thought he was good...

It just brings a smile to my face seeing I'm not the only one who KNOWS the Bus was a waste of space... we just need to get CBS to realize he's fuckin over-rated and boot his ass off the TELEVISION!!!

and I've always been of the mindset that Vick is not over-rated, only because the guy rushes for 900+ yds a season... and win or no winning, thats sick...

talk about going back to their old bad luck ways earlier than i expected. first, drew brees dislocates his elbow during the Pro Bowl game, now Reggie Bush hurts his ankle during the celebrity charity basketball game on friday. welcome to the world of saints-land guys! last year was some kind of fluke. saints are seriously just one walking bad luck machine.

What the fuck are the Bears doing!

Trade Thomas Jones for a low draft pick? Piss Lance Briggs off so much by being cheap so that now he refuses to play for the organisation again? Just wow!

Way to make another run at the SB!

da bears...

I expect it from the Chargers, but the bears acting like meatheads... kind of surprises me...

Briggs is smart though, why stay in Chicago where he'll always in Urlacher's shadow...

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Mar-06-2007 04:31:

well the more I read about it, the Bears have their hands tied. Jones asked for a trade, but wow, the JEts sure got the better end of that!

And Briggs refused a 6 year, 33 million deal last year. Somebody told me he can't go anywhere else and will forfeit a large part of his salary if he sits out so he'll probably play.

I know NFL players are notorious for greed and immaturity, but something about the Bears front office pisses a lot of people off.....

This is why Pats fans are so fuckin cocky...

"In Belichik We Trust"

Along with Scott Pioli, best front office in the NFL... always under the cap, always sign incredibly hard-working NO-NAME 2nd teamers who in the end benefit the overall team greatly. Then every once in a while come along with a great big name signing. Its to the point now where Pats fan's can't help but laugh at moves that other NFL teams make, because they think it will make them better... but the Pats can go and sign some scrub off the street and will do more for us than some jerkoff who signed for 38 million over six years... we have the best personel in our front office and will for years to come....

Posted by denys envy on Mar-06-2007 19:03:

wow.

so welker, thomas, and maybe moss... might as well hand the pats the trophy and let the other teams play for "who gets their ass beat in the SB"

Posted by fmodena369 on Mar-06-2007 19:48:

fuck the pats!

wutever, moss is a pothead so he's legit...i'm just glad we took deion branch off their hands

Posted by Member of X on Mar-06-2007 23:51:

Moss is done. Pathetic scrub. Memories of Moss make you think he's better than he is currently.

Wes Welker is giving the Pats the Super Bowl? Huh? When did he suddently become more than the typical one year wonder white WR?

Reche and his google eyes isn't scaring anybody.

Holt + Bruce + Bennett. haha
