I would dress the part but I don't think he can handle it right now hahaha Besides, I'm already too tired from playing a neverevending game of fetch, why can't he make a list of demands instead of everytime I go sit down to do my own thing he forgets to tell me he needs something else. Grrr! *sigh* in sickness and in health
haha! yeah she was on vacation.

Lyss - wtf. You gotta tell me how you got an A in this class.

This shit seems fuking hard.

What book did you have? Anatomy and Physio by Marieb? I just bought it online. Hook a sistah up with ur study habits!

Is that how they do it? Who was your teacher??

I had Prof. Vidhya Rojanavongse for lecture, and Dr. Beckos for Lab.

its actually VERY common to get TWO professors u just have to work with how they teach in each situation, thats all. Once in awhile, ppl have the SAME professor as their lecture/lab. Wait, you got O'Kane? (i thought she had left her tenure to go back to medical school!) For lecture OR lab? As a lecture professor, shes supposed to be HARD but probably one of the BEST professors in Anatomy also. You will so learn!! (and if u already looked on www.lagcc.cuny.edu/aplab - u see past tests from O'Kane used as practice tests. it will do u a lot of good to do these repeatedly.).

Thank god you didnt get Cecilia Ortiz. I heard nightmarish stories from ppl who took her Fall Session 2 which just ended. Miscalculated grades etc. wtf. My friend is going nuts. I told her to FIGHT for her grades.

yes same text for lab and the lab book is that BIGGG book, CAT version. Yes you'll be dissecting a CAT, funnn.

The course is VERY hard, yes. We need to learn a LOT and they chose to make it comprehensive. I know a lot of schools that skip over a lot of topics, but not our school. You are going to get out of it what you put into it and then some. its going to take up at least 1/2 of ur time. Learn to work well with others and learn to pick out the "doers" vs. those just trying to ride on the coattails of others (aka the "losers") cuz they will NOT succeed - trust me, we had someone that kept trying to cheat off others on tests and we practically ran in the other direction whenever she approached. People would tell me they would let her copy off them and i was like, "Why the hell would you do that?" HELL NO

Make SURE you ask questions, especially of the API tutor they assign to your section. But definitely doublecheck everything the tutor tells you as they are stil students are well. Everyone is fallible. The lectures are going to consist of a LOT of notetaking and you are going to have to learn how to take GOOD shorthand notes. Even record the lecture if you have to, since im sure its going to be impossible to take it all down the first time. If handwritten (like mine was), make sure to go home and recopy your notes so you can study from them. Make sure to LIVE and breathe M238/the lab when you have any spare moments during the day. Believe me, the more time you put into this, the more likely you can get that A.

If by the Withdrawal Date you are not doing that well in the class, i would advise that you drop it. thats what a lot of ppl do.

I am not taking SCB204 (Anatomy part 2) till Spring Session 2 so I have a breather from it. but truthfully i miss the discipline that it brought me. I even attended two labs per week cuz i was confused by certain topics. I miss having the feeling of having really learned AND understood something, then being able to help my classmates if they had questions on things. its really interesting how good it felt.

no worries, once you go through this class, you will be ready to face ANY Allied Health class you will take going fwd. Believe me, its a good thing to know what to expect.

By the way, we used to make good use out of online tutorials and youtube videos and links a LOT. if you give me your email I can send you A LOT of information which really helped us out, esp with the practicals. I hope these can be useful to you as well

Im taking Foundations of Chem now (SCC210 for Allied Health) and i think it will be okay. My professor, Dr. Amit Aggrawal seems really good and hes gotten a consistent high rating on ratemyprofessors.com.

Great info!

Yeah - I have O'Kane for LAB. I definitely plan on sticking through this class and going to lab inbetween my classes. I have 2-3 hour breaks in between class Monday & Weds!

I am also gonna go to the library this weekend to look at those VHS tapes on specific chapters. My teacher says the tapes should cover any holes we may have had with him.

He also said that if we do Withdraw - to keep coming to class... haha. So cross my fingers I don't have to get a W!

you posted alot of useful stuff. I will live and breathe M238!

Send me those links for practicals. My e-mail is [email protected]

I added u on Aim too - dnbchick.

M238 is also great cuz u run into SO many ppl who have taken the class before, ive gotten so many tips from passersby on how to deal with the class. also keep in mind that the person in charge of the LAB can also do some tutoring as well (while it be on a dissection or on models while you are there. Always ask for demonstrations, the more help you receive the better you will do)>

Heheh, we all need to help each other. seriously.

great, ive added u too. I think i had you under my old buddy list in the past. but now its on my current one

Are you taking classes this semester?

I think I am over doing it with this science. But - I am gonna try my hardest. Granted the other classes aren't SO hard.. it's jsut some time I have to put into them. ;/

Posted by phoenixBEBE on Mar-13-2009 02:37:

yup, Chem SCC210 and ENG 101. I am also going to volunteer at a nearby hospital or work part-time once i figure out the courseload for these two.

i just applied for Fall 2009 candidacy yesterday so I am really nervous. I need to ace these two classes this semester, then take SCB 204 and MAT 106 in session 2.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Mar-13-2009 02:39:

I am taking Abnormal Psy and Intro to Socio along with my other pre clinical - NYC Community Health.

;\

Intro to Socio isn't part of my major but I wanted to go full time and that is a class that transfers over if I go to York College after this (only school in CUNY that does OT)

tru tru i understand.

i was actually totally against all voluntary vaccinations, till i got a lung infection so serious two yrs ago i was coughing my lungs out and couldnt sleep (i remember being at Ronski at WH in 06? 07? --- trying to dance and i nearly PASSED OUT after coughing too much). THEN i acquiesced to getting the antibiotics, then the SHOT as a safety measure. haha

still, i didnt get it this yr cuz i felt healthy enough. ur right, do it at ur own discretion.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Mar-13-2009 02:56:

haha.. mine was the day after ronski.

i sound like an 80 year old smoker when I cough or LAUGH! As soon as I begin to laugh (which is all the time) I cough instead.

shit is horrible.

Bump - this is work/school thread.

Lyss - u got your fall registration date?

woot. when do u know if u get into nursing? this time i won't miss out registering for the intent to OT haha. I am most definitely gonna get in for spring next year.

when are u taking 204??

i did...but im not even sure what that means...i totally have to wait on whether I get accepted into the Nursing Program to even fix my schedule and thats not gonna happen till midJune, if not early July (thats what ppl already in the program are telling me). so yea i could be f*cked regarding my schedule. omgomgomg and the reason i am IN this situation is cuz everything depends on my GPA at semesters end!!! grrr 4 classes but 2 grades **COUNT**...

well on a good note, i am getting inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society at our school. *shruggs* figured id join, it should be good for networking well, uve been taking more classes than i have...so u are probably in it already!

how are classes going overall? its great ur doing well in Anatomy lab...how about lecture. how do u find that? ugh Chem 210 is getting harder (have u taken that yet i forget) -- its all freaking calculations...i just pray to stay above a 93%...and my English research papers are 50% of the final grade so i def need an A on it!!! (its SUCH a headache tho, its not my strong pt, resarch papers ) wait -- did ENG 101 transfer for you or did you take it last semester...i forgot.

(btw i thought u were aiming for YORK cuz of their OT program??? In that case wouldnt it be better to go for an AS Liberal Arts & Science Degree? thats what they tell all pre-Meds to pursue to increase the odds all classes will transfer. The OT Assistant Program is an AAS just like Nursing at LaGuardia, the main classes aren't transferable, only liberal arts

im registered for MAT 106 Medical Dosages for Spring Session 2 and i might take SCB 204 but on that -- hopefully it won't drag down my GPA too much of course if i get into the Program then the grades won't matter THAT much - id be happy just to get a solid B+ in both classes. if i dont get into the Program, ill have to BUST out As as usual *sigh* and then that will most likely 'ground' me ALL summer till midAugust. thank god for the wknds ive planned for this summer, as well as the DM concert im hitting up on August 3rd

Posted by MeLLyMeL on May-10-2009 22:59:

lecture I don't to too well in. I have a B average so far which is prob gonna be B+ if I can do great and get another 97 on my muscle practical. (Much better in lab than lecture ugh!)

Other than that I dunno what I am going to do. I actually think OT is an AS but either way our school has an agreement with Long Island Uni to accept all OTA's credits (all 60!) but I would have to take an extra 30 credits in Liberal Arts classes before starting the dual MS/BS program. So that may be a better option than York but I dunno if I can stay in NY much long.

Plus I figure if I work as an OTA somewhere.. maybe the job can pay for my schooling to become an OT.

Good luck with 204 in the 6 week! That is brutal. I haven't joined that Phi Theta thingy.. i got a letter in the mail but meh - too lazy. What I think I will do is see if I can start taking the pre reqs that LIU wants OT's to take so I get them out of the way *just in case* I continue my schooling.

Fall I will prob take 204, Functional Pathology, Statistics and I dunno... gotta look at what credits will defintiely transfer over to LIU.. It's also the brooklyn campus in LIU sooooo awesome!

I don't have to take Chemistry but a pre req for LIU is Biology.

Oh and ENG101 transferred over for me from Florida but we don't do + & - so I just got a B. Either way, all you need is prob a 2.7-3.0 to get into OTA. last semester was 2.5! bunch of idiots? haha.
