Spot on 100%, girl!

FCC blesses Garmin Nuvifone

Sure it might have been delayed but at least the FCC was kind enough to remind us that the Garmin Nuvifone does in fact still exist. The good news is that Garmins sexy nav-centric handset is likely still on track for a belated 1H 2009 release in the US and it does indeed don the 850 and 1900 MHz WCDMA bands needed for some 3.5G love via AT&T. The bad news, for Garmin at least, is that it may soon find itself in a race with Mio and the first to bring its handset to market will likely garner the most interest from consumers, barring a possible carrier contract. Mio announced earlier this month that it too would be bringing a handset to market in Q1 of the coming year that will be direct competition to the Nuvifone. While we havent yet seen live images of Mios upcoming offering, the company certianly knows what its up against and is aiming to deliver. As such, odds are good that Garmin is doing everything in its power to push the Nuvifone out as soon as possible. Good luck to both companies - we just want hot new phones.

Possible images of HTC Touch Pro running BlackBerry Application Suite

Assuming this is real, which it may not be, you might just be looking at the greatest thing to happen to Windows Mobile since - umm - ever. Sometime back in 2007, news of an upcoming software solution surfaced that would allow Windows Mobile users to emulate the BlackBerry OS and grant them access to BlackBerry apps. In other words, it would sort of allow the BlackBerry OS to run as a Windows Mobile application. Pretty much everyone forgot about the rumors quite some time ago since nothing ever materialized, but now a handful of images have surfaced that reportedly show the BlackBerry Application Suite running on an HTC Touch Pro. You read that correctly - BlackBerry OS, on an HTC Touch Pro. While the images on the screen look shiny and new, lack of an HTML browser and some other areas tells us were looking at an old feature set. Sure its not ideal, but it would still be pretty amazing - plus its only a beta if anything. If all this pans out, perhaps well see an updated feature set come along with the release version by Ohh, we dont know 2013?
Palm App Store Launched!

OK, so what are the advantages of running the Blackberry OS on WM?
Perhaps I speak out of my ass, in which case it would be a very smart one,
but WM6 is about as versatile as can be.
If it can emulate the BlackBerry OS it is therefore capable of much more.
No?

| Originally posted by LightsOut If this were true, i dont know what all the fuss is about. Sure you'd be able to run blackberry apps in a blackberry style environment on a WM device, however the real advantage I've found with a blackberry compared to other phones is the ability to connect to the internet via the blackberry APN. Through this APN your able to access a ton of functions including Blackberry Messenger, and data is compressed at a very significant rate, leading to fast page loads among other things. Without having the right to access the Blackberry server, a WM phone running a blackberry OS seems pretty useless to me.... |

| Originally posted by LightsOut essentially. instead of using the standard Rogers APN (internet.com), Blackberry's have the ability to connect to the Blackberry.net APN which compresses data and allows access to Blackberry Messanger among others.... In order to access this Blackberry server you must have a blackberry enabeled data plan from your service provider... ....i may be completely wrong about all of this but ive used BB for a while now and this is my understanding of how it works... |
