I'd prefer to stream my set, because i can do it right now (or as soon as my girlfriend wakes up anyway which shouldn't be more than a few hours)

if i have to record it, then i'd have to record onto my MD, take it to work, record it analog into Sound Forge, then convert to wav, burn it to a CD, and bring it back home. (don't have SF or a decent line in at home, although it works ok for streaming)

so streaming is good for me, is it good for you Flesch? We could both set up streams to mr. sick, and let him judge.

who goes first? you can choose, i don't care where i go.

since this is trance addict, i think i will start with a trance set, and we will see how it goes after that.

I'll go first then. I'll have to upload my set because I don't have enough upload bandwidth on my connection. All I spin is trance, so good choice of genres! I will need some place to upload it too.

Has a formal common FTP place been established? If so, can this information be posted? I should have some server space by winter, but I don't have any atm.

Also, let's say that we set the practice limit at 1 practice run max? This way the challenges will evaluate how well we can spin now versus how well we can learn what we practice.

I'll probably record my set tomorrow and I plan on using about 5-7 tracks and keeping it around 30-40 mins. I'm sure we'll get things worked out as people post more info on the specifics of FTP and if Mr. Sick will judge--or if anyone else wants to volunteer?

Posted by Dj Flesch on Jun-21-2003 19:29:

Okay, and since for some reason we can't edit our posts... The challenge expires on this thursday at Midnight. So, if now is the only time that you can spin, then I'm game for whenever as long as we have a judge!

Posted by JohnSmith on Jun-21-2003 20:17:

yeah, now is fine with me.. but without mr. sick, or any other judge volunteering, i guess i can't stream it out with nobody to listen too. If nobody volunteers, i will make sure to have a 30 minute or more set recorded by thursday.

as for practice runs, i say 0 practice runs! what you play is what you play and you should be judged on it. that said, there is no way to know if a recorded set is the first time or not, so i guess unless we are streaming then practice runs are going to be used anyway.

Uploads

Here is info for uploading sets- anyone can download them.

Just upload to here if you want a judge to just download them.

Or if a judge catches me- I can stream them for him.

68.7.130.233
port 6000
user: challenge
pass: challenge

use this for naming convention

kaos_kaos_vs_luke.mp3

luke_kaos_vs_luke.mp3

You could also uploading annonymously if you dont want the judge to know whose is which set and just name it 1 and 2 or something and judge will tell you two who won and you'll know.

Posted by xKaoSx on Jun-21-2003 20:26:

I think competitors could be allowed to judge if both agreed as well. Judges might be hard to find in the beginning like this i think.

I have my mix ready- Luke and I need a judge.

Just post a message NEED JUDGE for BLAH BLAH and someone will come forward.

This is for an ongoing contest- every challenge must be a new mix of some sort.

Not a storage area for new sets-

sorry.

You can sign up and use this mix once for a challenge- then it will get deleted.

Cool

rite i've just randomly woke up and remembered, please don't challenge me between:

30/06/2003 and 03/07/2003 as i am away in the lake district doing geography field studies

and...

09/07/2003 and 12/07/2003 as i am away on a formal university course @ durham university

just to let you know, so challenging me then would be a tad unfair to say the least as i have no access to the internet or TTs/vinyl.

Okay, 0 practices. I'm even better with that I'll still record my set on SUnday, then we just have to look for a judge. I think that it may be useful in the futuer to get a judge first, then actually make the challenge. Otherwise the challenge gets nulled or someone looses, I don't know, after 1 week.

Well- I can judge you two.

That's okay with me too. We can use the file naming system as was presented above for now. Since the rankings don't matter until several people are ranked, then the file naming systems doesn't either as long as it is clear. I wouldn't mind being a judge also, but to remain as unbias as possible, then as a contestant and a judge, I wouldn't want to know who is who. I think that this should be a standing rule once the rankings get into place.

Anyway, I plan on recording my set later tonight and uploading. We'll have to arrange a time for the stream for you John. I should be good anytime after 5:30PM central time until thursday, when the challenge expires. I am good after that too, but I'm almost intrigued as to what happens to the challenge when it goes past the deadline.

tracklisting

I don't think that we should post tracklists to our sets. This way the tracks that I have remain my tracks, and those that other djs have exclusively, remain theirs. I'm sure that I will want to know what many tracks are that are in sets that are played against me are, but then once I get them and they become part of my music collection, this will happen with every dj on the ladder and it will just make our sets into a mush of cream cheese.

I like cream cheese, so if djs want to, let's not forbid it, but let's never make it a requirement.

Posted by Dj Flesch on Jun-23-2003 02:37:

I am finished with my set and will shortly be uploading it to the above FTP site. Also, Khaos, if you need a judge for you and T, then I will judge for your challenge. I would prefer it be anonymous to me.

Posted by mr_sick on Jun-23-2003 09:18:

Sorry for being so late but I had a very long w-e (cityparade, like the loveparade but in Belgium )

So now I'm ready to judge your mixes guys

Will this be instead or as well as the battle of the mixers?

Agreed- Once rankings are in place a bit- just upload or stream two mixes and dont say which one is which and either say mix 1 or 2 won.

You dont answer a challenge before the deadline- it counts as a loss to whoever didnt respond to the challenge. So keep on your toes.

Sounds good to me-

I think best thing to do is I will create folders in the
Challenge area named DJFLESCH inside will be 1.mp3 and 2.mp3
Ill tell Luke (or whoever is uploading their mix- do the same)
in PM which mix is his and mine in your folder and you can just Announce Mix 1 or 2 won.

See this isnt too hard. LOL

Posted by xKaoSx on Jun-23-2003 21:29:

I think we basically decided as well mixes will be 30-60 mins. :P
didnt we? or how about AROUND 45 mins. Plus or Minus 2 songs.
