Ok, so my review is a few days late, but i needed the time to recuperate after a really good night at the Guvvie.
Got there with a few friends at around 11:15, and waited for around 20 mins to get in. Thankfully it wasn't too cold, so after paying we made our way into the KH. G & D were spinning, and although i was only around to catch 30 mins of their set, it was nonetheless a pleasent suprise. In all honestly, trance is now probably my third favorite after breaks and house, but these guys have a decent sound and they had the crowd going quite well. After making our way through the orange room which was blasting some hip hop, i caught the beginning of Anne Savage who i honestly had high expectations from. Unfortunately, i didn't really get into her set, and the guy with the whistle going 24-7 really started to bug me. So...Charlies was the next destination, and boy was it a good one. Breaks was the dish on the menu, and the crowd was hyped. Five minutes into the room and there was already a square off of some of the best dancers i have seen in the Guvvie. The thing that set Charlies apart from the other rooms was that it had it's own coat check, plenty of room, and a fucking air con system that actually worked. Oh, and did i forget to mention, some breaks DJ's who knew how to throw it down !
After a few hours in the breaks room, i was able to do the rounds again. So after checking out the acid lounge which was another great place to chill for a few minutes i made it back onto the Guv floor where Anne Savage was holding court. Yeah, the crowd seemed to enjoy her set, but i can't say i was feeling the hard house sound. Must give the guverment crew big ups for managing the flow of people as well. There was a time during Labor of Love when it seemed that just getting from one place to the other would take half an hour. But for whatever reason, for the past few events even though the number still appear to be at dangerous levels, the flow from the multiple rooms is significantly better.
Finally ended up at KH to hear Rank 1 drop their set. Tbe crowd had thinned somewhat from G&D, but there was still quite a few hands in the air as anthems were churned out by the guys from Holland. Once again, it wouldn't be fair for me to comment on the quality, because i haven't really be impressed with the state of trance for the last few years, but it was the kind of stuff that Rank 1 fans expected them to play. Euphoric, hands in the air as lush synths and pads floated overhead...It was good, it had a classic feel about it, it was Ultra Spin 4 !
Thanks for John T for getting me onto the Guestlist ( Didn't get a chance to use it cause one of my friends had a bigger group down...thanks nonetheless)
Shouts to Nat...the only TA i managed to spot. ( Damn you TOTA's...where do you guys lurk anyway ?
BTW. I was looking forward to Deko-Ze and Jelo, but didn't see them spinning...did i miss something ? Wasn't it supposed to be in the KH ?
Breeeeeakzzz....the sound of 2004 !

Kytracid- ALWAYS look up front for the TA's, or look for my spelling toy. You won't find any TA's hiding behind the rear speaker without a view, like u were.
Magnetonium- sorry about not getting any pics of you that nite- my battery died during Rank 1, and I saw u after the fact. If u ever want to meet more TA's, just remind me the next party. You know I'm the TA ambassador, right?

I am even guilty of singing and dancing along to it that night, but the initial reaction with me is still "oh no, not this song again....!" Aside from that one, I loved every song u guys played. I think my 1st distaste with this song was when Marco V was here in the fall, and he dropped it during his set, just cuz it's a crowd pleaser, though not his style at all. I think Alec from Ottawa has a different remix on his ASOT mix that's good (cuz it's barely been played by anyone). That one I enjoy at least. I'll just have to send out a petition to all DJ's to start playing alternative remixes of that song. Who's with me?? |
that's exactly the point...marco v playing as the rush comes despite the fact it's not his style says something don't you think?

Ok, awesome night!! the only problem with me was i drank like a fish the night before, and by the time infected mushroom finished, my stomach was killing me so i barely danced to rank 1, even tho they played an awesome set. I also completely missed anne savage which sucked, but there'll be other parties. GABRIEL AND DRESDEN ROCKED!! and yes, i confess, i still really like as the rush comes
but come on!! everyone liked it at one point, and it does get the crowd going crazy

. Deko-ze was supposed to spin with Addy, but Addy broke his arm snowboarding (so i hear) the day before the show
. I was really looking forward to them spinning on 4 decks, but deko-ze still came through.
I had a GREAT Time! I don't know why everyone complains so much about the Guv / Kool Haus. They have a great soundsystem and the venue is big. Add IM and Rank 1 and ya have a great party! My legs hurt from dancing almost the whole night. Hey too everyone I met!
i dont complain about the koolhaus.. only the guv!
Same here, the Guv is too crowded ALL the time, its taken me 20 minutes to get from the dancefloor to the bathrooms before!! the kool haus is bigger
That's funny, cuz I was gonna say how nice it was that the guv wasn't too crowded. I had no probs moving around all night, and was constatly going from room to room, floor to washroom. Guv's been a whole lot busier than it was the other night.

sorry if i ramble. just got my wisdom teeth out this mornin, and still feelin major side effects. damn t3s. k, my review. um, glad i caught the pre-meet, even though i knew no one there. my fault. got get out more. got to KH at around 10.30. nite sucked till around 2. however this had nothing to do with the music. there were other mitigating circumstances which severely affected my mood.
g&d. u guys were great. personally i was glad to hear beautiful things. as said, don't make it out much, and when it came on, it was the only thing that made me smile during that whole sucky time. btw, thnx for signing my friends record,
as for IM. well i wasn't there to hear them and i missed the first half of their set. i never saw myself as a psytrance person, but i was blown away. by then shit had been taking care of, and i was having a great time.
rank1. was expecting great. got great. 4 hours a blur. gotta meet them. got signatures. lol, shirts covered now, thnx to piet (friend???) barry and IM.
can't say i noticed the loudness there, except for when one speaker , right i think went super loud, but when i left it felt like after being in a plane with poppin my ears. ouch!
to my regular crew, most who are lurkers, it was great spending the nite with u. hey to all the TA's i met. i always found it funny, on how when i used to lurker, yet still come out, i never met one single ta, but once u know one, they seem to show up in droves. to the jamestown ppl jenn (starshine) and terry. loved spending the weekend with u. tons of fun, but it always is.
glad to finally met cono-sur and petty.
special hi to liam, and esp. desidel.
see u all next time (ferry in march?!?!) until then i retreat back into my customary silence.
by the way, who was that barry guy with piet?? manager or something? any answers
Barry is a friend of his. He's a financier (as a day job), so when he can't travel with Piet, their other friend does.
damn that was fast. thanx btw
he was a really cool guy, always running around getting stuff signed for ppl
and shit
