me and my friends got there to see all of edgar v and we stayed till pvd ended. it was a crazy night. a lot of good things and a lot of bad.

lets get the bad out of the way:

something was wrong with the sound system... the bass was too raspy and i couldn't hear any melodic tracks until near the end.

too many people. i wanted room to dance but it was still ok going crazy and jumping up and down.

people should only pick up girls on their shoulders if they are not wearing shoes cause i got stabbed in the chest with a few platforms.

good things:

the energy seemed good from the beginning, a lot of people seemed to start dancing earlier than the few times i've been there.

edgar was definitly good opener, he def got me in the mood.

i dont know why a lot of you people flame beautiful things, regardless of the reason its on ktu it is still a good song, and those of you that cant stand it being on ktu, why do you listen to that station?

A LOT of good songs- marco v- i feel you, chicane- autumn tactics, armin- yet another day, three drives- greece 2000, tillman- on the run... and many more, those are just some of my favs.

pvd was definitly in it, he looked tired but was in it. especially with the encores, damnit he loves us.heh heh.

too tired to write more, and i'm still dead from his set. can't wait to see him again.

Rasta

ok.

mmmm. must say it was wicked fun!!! one of the best trips i have had in a while !

funniest part was when we get exit the airport terminal and mr v and i just look at each other and say: "so fuckin cold." lol! he he he.

edgar's set was marvellous! great funky tribal and some amazing breaks! people really liked it which made us really happy!

paul's set... now this was banging. really hard and driving. set tempo was around 143-144 bpms. began trancey then went off with tech-trance and techno, which was great. everyone was having a great time! slowed down for a bit and then carried on till the end (climax)

can't wait for friday,,, hopefully will be a dejavu!

all the best!

arturo

i really haven't been motivated to write a real review because of the state i have been in... it has been a slow recovery from a tiring night. but i wanna say pvd did a great job for what music he had. the night wasn't one of the best overall but it sure had some great moments. some new remixes and classic tracks were a real treat. as arturo said, "driving" was his set throughout. he didn't slow down nearly as much as he sometimes does. wish i could check out space again this time around

Posted by umes23 on Mar-01-2004 06:17:

i must say.....

i LOVE summer sun. 4 strings goodie # 3 !!!

does anyone know if mike koglin vs jono grant - circuits was played?

i loved the crush remixes, new second sun track or the spell or whaetver it was...

schiller i feel you, innocente... aquarius...autumn tactics...so many great tracks. and face to face again...hmmmmm. thanks paul but piano mix next time pleeeeease!

when i heard we're alive i closed my eyes and drifted to twilo. loved this night even though it killed me.

im not the biggest pvd fan out there and after hearing the 1st 4 hours of his set i realized why .. but around 4 am paul began dropping some bangin tunes and it just went uphill from there ...nothing but pure nrg and turned out to b a gr8 nite out ... was disappointed not to hear 1 perfect day though ... even remember some guy holding up a sign asking paul to play it .. personal highlights were hearing introspection and mindcircles

and now DEEP THOUGHTS by Sunshine79...

haha. In actuality, nothing deep and enlightening to say about Friday night. I had a great time with great people. It was so much fun to party with Alex (dahippieman) & Jen from Florida, they are my new favorite people and Michi and Andreas and Rory and Arturo and the other TAs I don't see so often. It's nice to be surrounded by by people who love the music as much as yourself. The club was packed but not unbearable. We found a nice spot in the corner and took it over. I had a fantastic night out.

And that's my review of a night at the Roxy. My review of PvD is totally different.

Honestly, that's prob my least favorite set ever. I won't sit here and bash PvD, he's a great DJ. Even when he is "off" he is still amazing. But it didn't feel or sound like Paul all night. There was no journey, no amazing moments, other than hearing WE ARE ALIVE with hitokiri and Wheel of Steel < i love you guys, that track was for us! > . He never really brought me up and he didn't blow my mind. I felt like he wasn't putting his "fire" into it. Some tracks were good but they were so random. And I am so tired of hearing things twice. That makes NO sense to me! His encore was great though.

I love Paul van Dyk. I am not obsessed anymore () and I didn't stand in front the whole time like some crazy groupie sweating my ass off. I danced to the music I love and had a good time... I guess I am just a little disappointed that PvD doesn't take my breath away anymore. I will still go to every show but I really feel like something is missing or something was lost... Or maybe PAUL is missing something. I don't know.

I hope Miami is different.

*Shouts to all the TAs and everyone I saw! See most of you in SoBe in a few days!

the whole night was hard.. i loved it, it seemed as though the whole buildup was lead to holding onto nothing, which had the whole place jammin'

I arrived around 11:30 and positioned myself in front to see pvds start..It was awesome music thruout the night and i agree with Lunasea about the techno pvd threw around 3am..awesome! BUT yes the big but, hardly danced all night. To compare with last nov the crowd was SOOO different i tried to find a spot in various areas to get my groove on and people were just pushing and shoving all nite long. My friends and I were so fustrated. i probably only danced 1/2 hr to 45 min total. I wound up leaving early because i didnt want to just sit and listen, It is torturous to me lol I needed to move. so i left at 3:30. It prob got better after 4 but couldnt wait for the place to empty out. hopefully next time PVD will play at a bigger venue. I also didnt see too many familiar faces I think I so 2 Tas.

Few words

WowI wasnt expecting anything from the evening: I really felt his sets from may 2003 and on were very weak and repetitive. Imo November 2003 set at roxy was really poor. Hadnt seen him since then and wasnt sure what to expect

Got to roxy a little after 11 with greg and my sister Jessica, still needed to find my other sister Lara, but she wasnt going to get there until later. the sound system sounded like absolute garbage when edgar v was playing, wasnt feeling his set. paul came on right at 12, but first BPM presented him with Americas Favorite DJ award for 2003. then he proved to roxy why he won the award

He BLEW me away. From the first track to the last track, he was relentless, and the crowd seemed to love every minute of it. I loved his sound through the first two hours: funky electronic dance music- fun to dance to and keep you moving, a bit of techno, breaks, and melodic tracks (without the CHEESE). there was a gorgeous track with piano and light vocals, maybe played around 1:15 dying to know what this was. he really kept the energy level up all night long the dance floor was still packed when he ended his set.

For the first 2 hours of pauls set, we were a little distracted with the need to find my other sister. Realized how crowded the club was, and knew chances of finding her were relatively slim and gave up. Soo lucky to have bumped into her at the side bar around 2:30 and the party just elevated from there.

It was great to see a lot of familiar faces: ALEX, JEN, RORY my fave pvd party friends!! Shout out to: Arturo, Bri, Alex, Andreas, Chris, Corey, Dennis (at the end!). And a few new faces tooits just so hard to really meet or talk to anyone for me during pauls sets#1 I cant hear the other person and the real conversation is: I cant hear you, what?? #2 the music is sooo good I just wanna dance!!

So many great tracks played, sooo tired by the end of the nightlots of encores and I kept thinking this was going to be the last track, so I made myself dance, but then there was another track, and another one! Ending the night with dreaming into for an angel was the perfect end to an almost perfect night

Just two complaints:
1. ROXY please open another girls bathroom, the line and wait is absolutely ridiculous.
2. Crowd was a little pushy (but it was super crowded), and there were some major e-heads that made certain parts of the night very frustrating

REALLY looking forward to WMC!! See you there!!

i believe he also played: TETRAFLUX - OKINAWA

until next time...

Blow up Roxy. LMAO!!! You really think the club is that bad? Anyway, regardless of the club itself, what did you think of the track selection?

why do you keep going if you think it sucks too much, and if its the same crowd? i could never understand people who bash on the place and keep going.

personally, i have a blast regardless because PVD knows how to rock a crowd. Roxy's sound qual that night, i agree with others, wasn't up to par as before because there had to be something wrong.
The 3-4AM techno-type shit he threw down was incredible..
When he played Above & Beyond - no one on earth (gabriel & dresden remix) near the beginning.. that set my mood for the night

pz

HMMMMMMM....i really don`t know what to say about pauls performance, it was tooo random for me, there was no flow at all, but i had sooo much fun meeting everyone(arty, bri, dani, indy, jon, lee, vladi, jay aka THE BREAK lol, alex, etc. pp.) and in the end he caught me with his encores like FACE 2 FACE...i die for this tune. it was also great hearing deeks remix once again!
andreas and i missed this "bass in your face" feeling the whole night. we would give him a B- .

this is exactly what i am saying...
i might reconsider my $40 investments towards pauls preformances since the roxy isnt my place to chill
i mean please understand where i am coming from, the way i see it and to be completely honest, i think paul seriously shits on ny when he comes to play ever since twilo closed...his only exceptions are soundfactory, arc, and central park. THAT IS IT! every other gig has been average. do you think you can have a room moving to Jonsey - Independance @ roxy? thats strictly a twilo song lols thats when u know paul is playing for you...

im sorry for being so skeptical its just that after learning what wmc is about, attending parties outside of nyc, i've grown to learn that nyc doesnt receive the true heart of all DJs, that they come here and play to what they believe NYC would like. i dunno nyc has become to mainstream oriented so much so that djs alter their trackselection to fit what they think NYC would like! another .02 of me

i understand totally.
but what i also take into consideration that he doesn't shit on nyc is the fact that he comes back often, and plays encores for 45+min. I've been to quite a few # of events that pvd has spun @, and i've never seen him play encores longer than the ones in nyc. He usually brushes his hands and waves after a 20min encore. He keeps going in nyc, which makes me kind of think that he loves playing for ny cuz of the twilo past.
Also, i personally am pretty annoyed at the people who just go to fuckin ID tracks.. thats so lame. Go and enjoy the music, if he was a no-name dj and he played those tracks, people would bug out.. so why not do it over him. my .02
