I had a friend that was up in the green room after his set. He said Tiesto just sat there and didn't speak much, then he said he didn't want to be in the room with that many people and took off to the room on the other side of the stage. my friend said he came back in a "relaxed" state and was a bit happier and signed some things. He did refuse to take pics though.

I had a great night at the show and good meeting you new guys. Sorry you got that format error on your camera joel. I think Tiesto threw down a very good set, but Ferry's set in Houston was more my style. Regardless, I had a blast with the tranceaddict.com and iloveraving.com peeps. I think my next show will be PVD in H-Town. ROAD TRIP!!!

Hmm mixed feelings about last night.

Leading up to the event I was pumped as all f*ck, but in the end I was dissapointed for a couple of reasons. Everything about the night was awesome except for those couple of things... so many mates were there that there was always someone to chat with, scream with, laugh with, and that had to have been the highlight of the night - good company. There were also of course some wicked tracks dropped, about 5 corkers that I had never heard before and were really my style - driving and uplifting trancers. In addition:

Adagio For Strings (Tiesto Remix)
+ Pole Position (Airbase Mix)
+ Dream Machine
+ Traffic (Original Mix)
+ Emotions In Motion (Not sure what remix cos it wasn't the Thrillseekers Remix)
+ Born Slippy Nuxx (Paul Oakenfold Remix)
+ a few others I enjoyed.

About the two things that were dissapointing, firstly was the sound system was set up shit. The majority of the tracks had hard and boomy basslines, typical of Tiesto's addiction to tech-trance, but the sound system emphasised the low end so much that I just couldn't enjoy most of these tracks. It's frustrating going to see a DJ of this calibre and not being able to hear his set properly cos the dickheads can't hire a decent sound engineer (Ferry @ M-Bar comes to mind).

Secondly, and really I shouldn't complain about this, but I'm going to stress my dissapointment anyway... was the Delerium - Silence thing. When Tiesto toured Australia in late december last year, he played 2 new years eve gigs (Melbourne & Sydney on the same night), which at both he dropped Delerium - Silence (Tiesto's In Search Of Sunrise Remix). Long prior to these NYE gigs he had said in interviews that dispite the popularity of this track (released in 2000) he had retired it from his record bag and wouldn't play it again. Understandably I was shattered and totally envious of all my mates back home that were there for his sets... so anyway I wondered if I could get Tiesto to play my copy of it last night.

I wrote him a little note on the vinyl sleeve itself pleading for him to play it for us, and then I hesitantly threw it on the stage in front of him about an hour into his 3.5 hour set. He saw me wave it around and then throw it, and gave me a smile and with some hand movements he seemed to be asking me if I was suggesting that he play it. Of course myself and everyone around me were like F*CK YEAH!! nodding and giving him the thumbs up, so from that point on we were standing there waiting for him to come and grab it from the stage, read the note, and maybe drop it. Nearing the end of his set, the party organiser came down and grabbed the vinyl, taking it up to Tiesto. It sat there and sat there... and before long his set was over. No encores, no Silence, only silence. We all stood around confused as to wtf was happening, but he just walked off stage, looked like he signed some autographs for people in the VIP area behind the decks, and the party organiser then came down and gave the vinyl back to me. It was signed, but at that point I was -> -> . From now on I'm going to have to look at that note I wrote on the vinyl sleeve and remember that it didn't get played, dispite the amount of hope and excitement of myself and everyone around me. At least it's signed I guess.

In short, the party was pretty good but nothing extraordinary. His gig in Houston (October '03) was much more enjoyable, tracklist and sound system was much better, and back then he didn't seem as unfriendly. Aside from the Silence thing (and other unbiased people share this opinion), I think he's getting a little jaded, and unappreciative of the very people that voted him #1 DJ in the world. Let's hope he doesn't go as far as being another PvD.

what time was his 3.5 hour showing...

u guys need to give him a break... cos when he's doing his American thing... its rare that he gets some days off u know, 4-5 days a week performing sets is a lot more than his schedule of 2-3 a weekend...

just something to bear in mind when he doesn't smother u with attention and responsiveness in future!

Posted by Rememberence_ on Jun-23-2004 23:25:

He was on at midnight. And in regards to giving him a break, this is what he does for a living, he may tour and play 4-5 times a week but that is his choice, and if he's doing it to the point that he's dissapointing his fans by not giving it his all, then I've lost respect for the guy.

Posted by MichaelBoogerd! on Jun-24-2004 00:09:

well he didnt have to come... he couldve stayed here in europe...

but then u'd all be bitchin' about that as well.

Posted by DeviantxPete on Jun-24-2004 00:13:

Yeah, the no playing of "Silence" was kind of weak. Perhaps he needed some encouragement for an encore? I don't know. After the show, everyone was like "ok" and just left. Tiesto and PvD did their own share of encore tracks at Liquid in Dallas, so maybe the fan base in San Antonio needs more energy or something.

Posted by DJ_Octane on Jun-24-2004 01:10:

It's kind of a catch-22 though. How can the crowd be pumped full of energy if he's putting on something memorable for them and how can he play a memorable set without an energetic crowd? One of the parties involved would have had to get the ball rolling. Seeing as how San Antonio is a bit "green" about EDM, I think Tiesto should have stepped up.

Does anyone remember that Simpson's episode where Bart is the "I didn't do it" boy? Everywhere he went people wanted him to say his catch phrase and cared not for anything else. Maybe he wants to move on to other things. I know its a really really good track, but maybe he's tired of playing it. I DO wish he had played it though.

My biggest disappointment was not catching that cowboy hat he signed and threw out into the crowd. I was sooooo close and even had most of it in my hand. Oh well...destiny.

Posted by zenbudda on Jun-24-2004 01:35:

heh. i just figured all "popular" people don't want to be bothered by us peons. there are a few exceptions of course. i was actually suprised to see corsten taking photos with you guys. that must've been awesome.

i agree with rememberence on one thing though. there was a lot of bass and not of whole lot of (what i call) technical noise (the cool synth noises that add to trance). zebiela however put out a lot of that technical noise. it was awesome. i hear sandra collins did too.

Posted by Zild on Jun-24-2004 02:49:

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, i'm just thankful to even have the opportunity to see Tiesto here in San Antonio.

Posted by The_One on Jun-24-2004 03:17:

Oh yeah I forgot to add that Lance Cushion's set was great. A really nice warm-up for Tijs. The dude was just dropping some Prog Bombs. As for Rene G No Comment ... ah f**k it.
YOU SUCK !

Smiley DJ

Tiesto was not at top form. I remember seeing him several times before he made it to the number 1 Dj spot. One time in particular was when he played element in Austin a couple of years back. He was vastly more friendly and he even took request. I asked him to play IIO-Rapture(before it was huge) and he looked back surprised that I knew of it. He just seemed way more appreciative before of his fans. Oakenfold at Sky Lounge is something I am looking forward to. It will be 21 plus and a more intimate setting.
BTW....for your PVD fans....his site says he will be in Austin on the 22 of September at SKY =)

Oh gee great point you have there mate. You speak as if we were privileged to have been graced by his presence. We paid to see this guy because he's made it big as an awesome producer and DJ, and damn, he's talented and popular enough to be voted #1 in the world. It's natural to have high expectations of someone like Tiesto. Now piss off back to your European forum.

Kinda sounds like Tijis was a drag. I missed him when he came to Houston back in October. I find when a top name dj ignores has fans, is very unprofessional. His followers are the one who got his Dutch ass to the #1 spot in the first place... (Thats going to change)

I agree man. Ferry, Armin, they are way up there yet they are still down to earth guys who obviously appreciate their fan base. I'm sorry that I missed Armin for Tiesto this time around, but hey, there'll be a next time.

Agreed @ Tiesto having to step up. He kinda made me feel like he had his own expectations and they weren't met by San Antonio (when it should be the other way around I reckon), rather than taking the place by storm.

About Silence, I see your point Dave. That's why I was really really hesitant to throw the record on stage cos I knew who dissapointed I'd have been if he didn't drop it. But you never know unless you try, so I'm pretty much over it. How awesome would it have been though...

Posted by daydreamer on Jun-24-2004 06:03:

too back up my boy, james, even though i wasn't there.

that is his job, and if he is going to do it with a bad attitude might as well not do it all.

shite, if was making tons of money by dropping down some choons i be smiling 24/7. plus he is only on for like 4 tops out of a 24 in a day, yeah i'd be stressed out too doing 2-3 sets a week even more he probably does a bit more, but meh.

armin on the other, the couple of times that i have seen him.
no complaints at all....

needless to say

YOU GUYS MISSED OUT!!!!!

*lives in Austin*.. ..i thought the bass was ok..but the only thing i can say for the record..is " I went and saw Tiesto spin" ..i wish it could have been some more current songs ( much like what Armin played )I kinda got the feeling that Tiesto himself wasnt liking San Antonio much.. felt that the crowed wasnt as pumped to see him. I was..but to meet him personaly, i knew his music ( well his set ) wasnt much to my taste aswell..but i was bummed out when i could not get a pic..or even a desent signature. & about that cowboy hat..it was kinda funny when he wore it ..he dosent get my vote for the next pic for #1 Dj ,and if he comes to town..i probably wont see him..unless his attitude changes. I wish i could have seen him here at Element few years back...*thinks*..where the hell!..was I!! He would have Left a better Impression.

well friend.. i was doing alittle reading up on Tiesto..even tho the disapointment tuesday...i wanted to know alittle more about the guy..and i was reading up on some of the questions people asked him..and i found this...

Fernie: Hi there, i have recently heard a few interviews with yourself where by you say you would never play Delerium Silence today as its to old and would be deemed as you just playing old stuff again, then you go on to start playing urban train, flight 643 again which are just as old? isnt this a contradiction? it did confuse me somewhat!
Posted 2003-12-23 by BHC
Tisto: Well, dont take everything I say literally. Sometimes I say things which are in a certain context. I mean, like delirium, Ive been playing that record a couple of hundred times or a couple of thousand times and sometimes Im pretty bored with it. And the same goes for Flight 643 and Urban Train as well, I dont play them every week. Sometimes like when Im in certain countrys for the first time or the second time they really want me to play an old track, because thats what they know me from. They know me from my tracks. Silence, maybe I start playing it again in the future, but for now I stop. If theres like 10 people in front of me with banners asking me please play silence, then I will play silence. BHC says: Its what ever you feel you should play? Tisto: Yeah, I always follow my heart when Im playing music. Sometimes you see guys that made special plates with Flight 643 you know, and then Im like, okay, Ill drop it in.

I guess you & your friends should have had a bunch of signs requesting Silence.

Posted by Rememberence_ on Jun-24-2004 16:04:

Damn, I was originally thinking of getting everyone around me to sign a petition on the note I wrote... cos I know I would have easily had 20+ signatures. The main reason I was so hopeful was that this was the first time he's been in San Antonio for years (or the first time ever, as far as I know), and I realised that when DJs are in a city or country that they hardly ever play in, they drop big, classic tracks like Tijs said in that interview. A banner would have been nice... but meh.

There were several girls there with us. Its just that I don't know if they would want their pics on the net. You know how women are. All my pics of the hot bartenders were lost due to an early "format error". They were sexy as too. But WERD we do need some estrogen around here.

Posted by TAnt on Jun-24-2004 18:19:

I had my hand on that hat, but my grip wasn't good enough of course because I didn't get it.

By the way, I just saw that group pic, I didn't know that was you guys! I was right next to you all the whole time lol...I had a white polo shirt on if you remember?

Me and my bud Richard got a shit load of pictures as well...I think like 170?

Here's a pic of me if you remember seeing me...

Posted by Zild on Jun-24-2004 18:24:

The reading i got from his attitude that night is completely different than what the rest of you are describing but anyway i went there to lose myself in the emotion and energy of the night. So Tiesto's set wasn't the best he's ever done but that neither makes nor breaks the party, the energy was almost overwhelming at points.
