I'm partial to lying side laterals myself.

I was thinking about starting in on the seated row machine where you can grip the handles palms down. but I dont really know a lot of freeweight exercises that work it. bent over db reverse flies is what ive been doin, but hasnt quite gotten the gains ive wanted.

Mostly because it's the only exercise for the posterior delts that i've found it easiest to isolate the rear delt with minimal involvement from other muscles. At least outside of seated one-arm cross cable laterals.

Posted by Orbax on May-19-2004 16:10:

doesnt that work the medial head mostly though?

Posted by elena on May-19-2004 16:11:

fine, i'll be "productive" in the sausage fest thread (as orbax kindly named it)

i work out a handful times a week, usually about 4-5 times a week, trying to be consistent mainly. i dont have a particular strict regimen like most you boys. i treadmill for 30 min, do an elliptical machine for another 20 and run about another mile outside on this long avenue. then i go see my trainer/helper guy and he's the one that controls what type of weights, body parts and reps i do. i love goind to the gym oh and i hit the spa afterwards for a short bit.

my only problem is the eating part. i fcking love junk food but starting this week i'm trying to cut down. and i smoke ocassionally which is a HUGE improvement cause im a heavy (well used to be at least) smoker. umm i dont do meat though.

my goald is to drop a good 5-6 lbs. im currently 168 cm (5'5.5") at a weight that fluctuates between 115-117 lbs. (which i think is about 52-53 kg.) my goal's to be 50 kg.

yeah i think the best way to probably hit it is the cables movements...but i usually end up using free weights...

that sounds like a great routine. i think if you cut out the junk food, those 5-6 lbs would melt off. if you do that kinda cardio, diet is the only thing holding you back...

Well i'd say it works the posterior head mostly if you do it correctly. But it does involve the medial head. At least you don't have the problem of a major muscle group AKA the upper back trying to help you out on each rep like in bent over raises. I just usually go heavier on bent over raises, then switch to one or both of the two more isolation exercises with less weight to put as much attention on posterior delts as I can.

That isn't to say that your back doesn't try to help you out on these exercises as well. I just find that it's easier when doing these the right way to keep my back out of the movement as much as possible. That's just me.

cheers, thing about hitting the gym is not to be ridiculously skinny a la paris hilton. ive come to accept my body and how some people are just naturally skinny and how others actually have to work for it. i just want to be fit and healthy i suppose
