Secondly there has been no news whatsoever as to what is happening.
There should be at least that, also don't set deadlines if they don't mean S***.

Feedback to what is happening isn't very hard and takes very little time.

Thirdly this competition is way past the deadlines or I wouldn't have said anything to begin with, so STFU you ignorant ASS.

If you can't people who have the time to judge the competitors mixsets then they shouldn't have been a judge in the first place in my opinion.

Two months is a hell of a long time to get all the marks scored in my
opinion.

((DJ MADNESS))

ehm, if you were going to post about grammar and spelling, then shouldn't you have made your post abide by your same strict standards.

i won't tolerate that kind of attitude towards any other ta member, unless you post an apology i will happily suspend you.

the results will be posted when all judges are finished marking and are happy with the final outcome, i'm sure ian, neo or andy will post as soon as the results are finalised.

Posted by Ian on Sep-05-2004 17:30:

As said before, my results are finished, I have sent them to Wicked Neo who is marking himself, but has a busier schedule than me with his work & other commitments, however despite all this, he will still have it marked. It might take a bit longer than you want or expect, but there is no need to get abusive for this, not everyone jumps when you say so, and if you don't appologise to the guys in this thread, I shall simply disregard your scores anyway, it's not always the best thing to do to wait but it's necessary and as soon as I have neo's scores back, I will post the results and some comments from myself on all of the mixes. That's all I can say for now, It's out of my hands until i get them back

Wow...
It's hard not to be stereotypical about people when you meet arrogant knobs like that and see where they're from...

Posted by DJ Sarah H on Sep-05-2004 17:52:

I am almost done, 2 mixes left to mark which i shall try to get done over the next 2 days.

I have had a very busy couple of weeks, spesh this week mastering last weeks sets from Gatecrasher.

I apologise for the time taken, but i am sure you all want this comp judged as fairly as possible

Sorry Luke,

I was just asking about the results and there hasn't been any news in the forum for a long time, then DRM puts his comment in about me whinning when I was merely asking for information. I am sorry for slamming DRM, but he shouldn't have made his remark when I was simply asking for info.

It would have been very helpful for those of us who are anxious to see what is what.

Once again my emotions probably got the best of me, I was just agitated by the lack of communication and then by his comment.

Sorry to the judges also, a little feedback goes a long way however.
A simple note that the mixes where being reviewed would have been nice to those who were wondering what was going on. I realize it takes a while to judge the mixes. Its just that the competition is so far past the deadlines and there has been no comments in the forum about any kind of updated schedule.

Ian was the only one who said anything about any of this in a long time. Like I said, just to anxious I guess and once again my apologies.

Nothing personal, and I will be more professional in the future.

your an absolute tool mate. you're telling me to go back to school because i missed a h out of my post (whinging)? Yeah nice one. I again implore you to think before opening your mouth. You honestly dont understand wot kind of work goes into sorting these competitions out. Some people actually have jobs to go to aswell as spending time on the net, shock horror. now sit down, stop whinging and wait for the results to confirm u came last

oh and btw DRM stands for : Dj Rentboy Madness

You can think what you want of me, it really doesn't matter a bit.

I was merely asking for information on what was going on in the competition, since there hadn't been any posts about anything in quite some time. Also, for the record you got WHINING wrong once again. Your spelling is horrible (whinging). That's not even in the dictionary.

(Whining) That's the correct spelling. Jeez man you really need to proof read.
Also what is the defintion of (wot) stumps me?

Definitions: Whining
Whining
Adjective
1. Habitually complaining

You can call me a tool all you want, doesn't bother me a bit.

The facts still remain that the deadlines where past due and there were no posts whatsoever in the forum about how things were going.

I believe I had the right to ask as many times as necessary about the status of the competition. Sorry that your not as interested in the results as I am. Also for the record I waited until after Sept. 1st before I even said a word. The original deadline was August 1st and then moved to Sept 1st. As it stands now, it is Sept. 16 and still no results. I was merely asking about the status and you had to start all this mudslinging. Why don't you keep your 2 cent comments to yourself if you can't give quality information when someone asks for it.

Also your smart ass comment about me coming in last was totally uncalled for. For the record I have played in quite a few clubs and raves (with a 40% hearing disability on top of that) and believe me I put on a good show, the results will show that. I may not be 1St but I definitely won't be last. I can no longer pursue the job of a DJ full time because of my hearing loss, so events like this mean more to me than most people. If you can't understand that then you have major problems. Don't jump to conclusions without all the facts.

I can guarantee you that if I had 100% of my hearing I would be a well known DJ. Those in the music field that know me are amazed that a person with my degree of hearing loss can mix as well as I do.

Its called love for the music. For that reason alone I ask questions about the competition. I was never in any fashion whining about anything. If anything your the one who owes the apology.

oh dear you do go on mate. cant believe you went to the effort of getting the dictionary definition of whining and didnt even bother to look up whinging. admittedly is a mainly british word but you're the one being an arse about it so :

whinge ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hwnj, wnj)
intr.v. Chiefly British whinged, whinging, whinges
To complain or protest, especially in an annoying or persistent manner.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Dialectal alteration of Middle English whinsen, from Old English hwinsian.]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
whinger n.
whingingly adv.

taken from http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=whinging

happy now? and from this thread alone i think that description perfectly describes you.

as for the joke about u coming last (and yes it was a joke hence the smilie) i already know u have done a little better than me and you will probably place quite high so it was all tongue in cheek.

sorry to hear about the hearing mate but thats no defence for rudeness.

Lets Put An End To Nonsense

OK, This has gone far enough in my opinion. What is done, is done.

Lets just move on without all this childlike behavior, after all we are adults are we not.

No hard feelings to you DRM, but I am not going to argue anymore over this dumb crap. It is pointless.

Good Luck to all the DJ's out there.

RESULTS!!

I must appologise for the time it's taken, esp from mr neo, but he's a busy man, so i hope our results are both fair and accepted. we've commented on each mix, my comment first and neos on the 2nd lines. he's a better dj than me so he maybe is more help, but i've heard hundreds of sets, maybe thousands so I want to be good

DRM 82%

Nice Set, a bit random but the mixing is good and no real faults, maybe a better structure would have scored higher, but still good
this set feels rushed to me, overall not bad at all

Luke Terry 89.5%

No faults at all, well mixed and spread out, harmonics pretty much spot on, one of the better mixes
hard to find fault with Luke's mix very very good - shows he is class when he makes this kind of effort

Sgt Foo 58.5%

Random Ordering and poor mixing hindered set, practice will help you improve so don't give up and try to structure sets a bit better flow wise
lack of flow to the set, tunes seem out of order, mixing is not quite there either but it does take time, keep at it :-)

Yoko 86%

Nice offering here, nothing really at fault with the mixing and matching, maybe lacked a bit of energy but otherwise good.
Great mixing, beat matching just about spot on, really could not find anything wrong with this mix at all

Kev K 82%

standard set shows a good understanding of the basics, and an ability to make a set flow, keep the practice going and you should get good
nearly there, a mix I very much enjoyed, you have mastered the basics very well, now add some individuality and next comp I am sure you will score higher

C Montano 83%

Different in the track selection, and well mixed to accomplish a journey from start to finish, never really takes off, but the purpose I don't think is to do so
I liked this set because of its originality, some of the transistions let it down which is why this mix did not score higher

Luke Cartwright 83%

Nice set, with a good selection of tunes, maybe trying to overdo things a bit at times, eg mixing into phantom manor is good then goes OTT with a trick attempted, which doesn't help in this case, keep on trying though!
I think this set would have been better if kept simpler however some very nice mixing

Gibbo 85%

Great set with the only flaw being the lack of energy in the 2nd track which kinda kills the atmosphere brought in by the opening track, mixing spot on & harmonics good as always
Constantly getting better! However I think gibbo is still trying to emulate another dj, would be better with his own style

Hai Lee Chen 86.5%

Very nice warmup set, works really well with a good selection of tracks used. Accomplishes a good ambience.
Very Nice Set!!!!!! Keeps a constant smooth flow to the set, how its meant to be - a journey

Daniel Miller 85.5%

Good mixing and harmonics of a set that doesn't seem right in the tracklist, maybe switching around the order would help turn this from a very good set to an excellent set
a very good set mixing wise, playlist could be improved, seems a bit random at times which is what let it down

Transa EP 89%

Great effort of a set that has an aura similar to feelings I get from the ISOS series. Delicate tunes fused together well
Great Set! All I can say really, well done!

CKYTEP 83%

Decent effort, doesn't quite reach the heights of some of the sets, but nothing wrong with it at all
good mixing skills, flow is ok, hard to find a fault technicly, althou not quite there for giving inspiration

Avro 77.5%

Tracks are good but there seems to be too many lulls, seems more a collection of individual tracks rather than a mix as it never really takes off. Mixing itself is fine however.
no flow to the set lets this mix down

DJ Madness 82.5%

Very nearly a good set, tracks build really well right until the end but I just feel like there needs to be one more track on the end to really finish off the set in style. Very good mix, only overshadowed by the sheer quality of some of the other mixes
good build to the set, defo going in the right direction but ending of the set feels like an anticlimax

congratulations to Luke Terry - winner.... just

Thanks to everyone who put the effort in for this, if you have any queries let us knnow please

Posted by Luke Terry on Sep-26-2004 19:57:

Was very very close mate, your set was superb, and on the whole there were many good ones that were mixed well, Structural work seems to be a problem in some cases, but it comes with practice, I know how hard mixing is, esp at the start, If you heard the few times I tried it at a recent party @ my house, I have the utmost respect for anyone who dares to enter a competition like this

I'm glad you can take some heart from it, there is a case of your set being quite poor in comparison to the others, mainly because most of them are mixed well, it is all about practice, and having the guts to enter a set when you probably know you won't win. Your choice of tunes was one of my favourites, but not mixed in that order or beatmatched how you tried. keep at it though, a lot of people can improve very quickly, so don't let this make you feel bad at it, everyone starts somewhere

Edit - oh and next comp, i'll speak to luke soon, I'm up for judging as long as we get 1 or 2 more, as there is a possibility I won't be able to judge in 2-3 months time due to personal circumstance, but If i'm available I definitely will

Thanks to all involved in this comp, and thanks to the judges for taking the time to listen to every set and still giving helpful feedback.
And of course congratz to Luke!

Thanks for the results and feedback, did better than I thought.

Mabey next time I'll try and keep things a bit more basic, but hey I've got some new equipment and effects to mess around with now so mabey I'll just put in some extra practise instead.

Looking forward to the next one and hopefully I should be buying some webspace soon so if theres any problems with somewhere to upload mixes too I should be able to help.

Thanks again and well done to everyone.
