TOTA is still my fav group of ppl to chill, hang and party with. We do get into fights and shit, but when you meet the person face 2 face ... everything is cool. Flaming is pretty much usless. Nu skool cats are just as importaint as the old skool cats, we're form together b/c of what we all love and enjoy.
I still love trance (espically the old skool 98 - 2000 trance) and jungle at an equal level. Prog is cool, but some of it doesn't apeal to me, but I understand why some ppl like it. So there's no point on hating it.

It's an emotion thing
The hardest thing to so is convince someone that prog is good music.. most of my friends arent into house music or trance and even the trancers friends dont like prog that much (n00bs).. whenever i get into that argument.. which happens whenever someone hears what i listen to... i just whip out some pics of Bal en Blanc... after many "oooos" and "aaaahhhs" at the beauties dancing, i say... "so ya.... they're listening to prog...."
im with jon on this one... acquired taste all the way... and MaxQ's sex analogy... cant go wrong with that.. thats what house music is about... sex... down and dirty...
dont get me wrong... you'll still see me at trance parties (altho i passed on tijs recently) but i switched over to house last summer when i went to see Sasha thinking he'd be playing trance...he laid down some dirty prog, i was forced to listen to it and it just got under my skin and started moving my bones... thats what did it for me... its all about the beat... dirty fuckin house beats... just what the body needs... (as i listen to some antoine clamaran)
course, there is some prog that is *boring*... theres just as much trance thats *boring* too... bottom line... people have different tastes... if you can bash prog and like trance, you're just as wrong as the person that bashes trance and listens to country...
you cant convince someone that a certain genre "sounds good"... it either sounds "good" or "bad".. if something sounds like shit you're not gonna lie to yourself.. its either good or bad... but what is "bad" to some is "good" to someone else.. one man's trash is another man's treasure...
nuff said..
oh ya... there's something else about prog... its hard to appreciate prog for what is when you're listening at home.. most dont have the massive sound systems we hear at clubs... and since prog is more about the "beat" than trance.. (which is more about the melodies)... home speakers arent as good at delivering the full effect of a prog beat...
on home speakers its like... "boom tik boom tik"
on club speakers its like... "boom-tik-a-boom-tak boom-tik-a-boom-tak"
anyone with me on that one?
Bal en Blanc
"Bal en Blanc" that's Barbara Brown right.... AKA Mistress Barbara.
I know she has mix under that title, are you referring to that or something else?
Sorry I'm new to all of this, I know it's sounds stupid, but just curious.

there was a time when i thought progressive was crap. it used to enrage me when ppl told me that the music that I loved was cheesy or tacky or simplistic- b/c when i started listening to trance it was such a big thing for me- it was as if i had almost been waiting for musical experince that would actually move me. I developed massive attachment and defensive attitude to trance- b/c i found the music so emotional and important i took negative comments personally- there are still trance tunes that when i hear them i get choked up ( i know that sounds pussy-ish but i really don't care).
at some point after hearing enough prog at trance events- it just clicked w/ me- there is a lot of boring and shitty prog- there's no doubt about that- there is good and bad in every category of music. one day i just started to get something different out of prog- especially more tribally stuff- there's a certain tightness and sensulaity to it- there's often a depth and dirtiness that you don't see in trance- there IS somthing to be said about sexy music. there are also prog tunes that have some of the same etheral qualities as trance- that are stunning and beatiful (for example schiller- ruhe humante mix)- I can't imagine anyone hearing that tune and not finding the beauty in it (if you can't then I truly feel sorry for you).
I guess what i'm trying to say is that there are different things you can get out of each of these types of music- if you want to limit yourself to one that's fine- but it's nice when there is respect for other forms of music- I can understand the defensivenes, i really can- the words 'prog sucks' have graced my lips before tooo..
