well, maybe the Liberals should have a good look at themselves if they want to avoid this.. they're all insufferable wankers, with utterly crap policies to boot... (wait, do they have any policies, all I hear is "strong economy" and Labour sucks?!)

Tell me romp... what does a federal government need to be able to increase the gst??!?!!?

What is every state government after!!?!?!?!

How man labor state governments do we have right now.

Put 2 and 2 together... what do you get?!?!?!

For a smart guy like yourself... i didnt expect i would read a comment like "Labor never wanted the GST." They didnt want to implement it but i tell you what, they are sure in favor of reaping the benefits from it. The state governments are loving it

If they did it they would probably be committing electoral suicide, in any case both sides of politics are currently cutting taxes, not raising them.

And when asked about it Latham said:
quote:

"The answer is 'No, no, and no again - no way in the world'.

"The reality is the Labor Party opposed the GST in the first place and there's no way in the world we'll be lifting the rate.

So I think thats a pretty emphatic answer. I have no idea why this idea would even come up, my guess is that its another scare tactic from the coalition. Because no one who knows anything about politics would think labor would increase the GST, something they are ideologically opposed to because its a regressive tax. If they were going to increase any tax it would be income tax.

If labour was so idealogically opposed to GST, why not come out and say they will remove the gst? Before accusing me of just reading some tabloid paper, and listening to some scare tactics... how bout you just stop itterating party line and start giving us YOUR opinion.

I just wish that when we have to pay higher gst, the people who voted for them pay for my share as well The gst will increase make no mistake, and the best time for it to increase is when the federal governments has all the state governments on it side.

John Howard commited electoral suicide last election as well with the GST, and got voted in. The australian public has a funny way of voting.

"There's no way that a GST will ever be part of our policy. Never ever. It's dead. It was killed by the voters in the last election." - John Howard

"Any suggestion that I left the door open is absolute nonsense. I didn't. I never will. The last election killed the GST. It's not part of our policy and it won't be part of our policy at any time in the future. " John Howard

Should be a great 3 years. How Howard could be exposed as a liar imediately prior to every election he contests and still be re-elected is beyond me. The interest rates will still go up and health and education will suffer too. We deserve the politicians we elect, Australia. Vote Rudd in 2007.

Posted by Antistatic on Oct-09-2004 19:10:

Labor got raped.

If johnny really does do these things I would vote against the liberals next election, the only thing that would stop me though was if kevin rudd was the leader of labor! I don't care if the liberals kick down my door and beat my family i would never vote for kevin rudd.

although im not too happy about john howard for another three years, things are gonna get real shitty if he gets the senate (looks like he will)....it means that we get to see the real face of the liberal party.

And yeah geee, we crying uni students are really gunna feel the full brunt of Liberal policy. I'm sorry that my parents dont live in the north shore and have thousands to fork out every year in fees

Posted by pinkhelmet on Oct-10-2004 05:25:
