I use cubase sx2 and have to say it is purely amazing. The only thing that could be considered better might be pro tools, since the audio editor is slightly more convient. I wouldn't say it's better in anyway, but the midi is supposedly better in cubase.
You can load as many plugings as your computer can handle in cubase, just like reason. The thing with cubase vs. protools is the system is able to carry over somewhat vs. protools where you must buy new hardware every six years. With cubase, all you have to upgrade is the software, possibly to work with the next operating system. Since the hardware with cubase is designed to work with any product, you really win with cubase. I tried sonar but it just seemed sorta cheesy to me, I liked the technical edge to cubase.
Reason looks cool and all, but since you folks say the audio engine sucks, I completely lost interest.
Cubase is totally cool because it has a audio editor, pool for audio files, you can drop the audio files from the pool into the project window and it just makes a new track automatically. Since you should be making everything in audio anyways, way easier to get a professional sound than working with midi tracks, unless you have compressors and reverb hardware units to process the sound in realtime? I suppose there is flexibilty that makes reason cool because it can be programmed in midi and more easily changed.I disagree with midi because everything ends up in audio anyways, so why not just samples and loops, canceling out the tedious task of recording the songs after they are produced. Unless you are recording the whole mix as one track, which I find makes worse results then idependently recording each track and then mixing down the audio files.
I hope I don't stir a whole bunch of people up again, but I must say that I use Logic and I am very happy with it. It also has the drag-and-drop "audio pool" you've mentioned. It ships with a bunch of native synths and effects, some of which are quite good (ES2 can be very suited to trance). Anyways, before I start sounding like a commercial (too late) I just wanted to say that if you've been running reason or some such on a Mac, and are looking to upgrade your software, look no further. Yeah, the loearning curve can be frustrating but once everything starts to make sense, you'll be like, "where has this program been all my life?" Trust me, the steep price tag is, IMHO, worth it.
after seeing all these pics, i think i am going to quite trying to produce....

lol
this thread cracks me up
keep it going
This thread needs more content! Here's my latest :

Cubase is really cool to use but I don't think it matters what program you use, since making decent trance is a lot of hard work, no matter what!
is this a competition?
hold on...
here's bass shuttle

Flashback, that song Rocket Blast is awesome, haha, I loved it. I'm not into hip-hop but I really enjoyed it. Reminds me a little bit of Busta-Rhymes' mellow stuff, hehe.
You Ask Of Me is annoying, but I can't stop listening to it, haha. And going back to the topic, I've seen people produce great songs and don't have as many "bragging rights" tracks. Anyway, the song was alright I guess. Sounded squashed as hell, though.
Jebus haak
your cpu isn't even yellow, my pc would like blow it's self up if i start up that rns.
OK - where's the mp3 sample for this song - I WANNA HEAR IT!!!
haak you need to get some more structure on your producing man
I see that you even have tracks for FXunits that don't have any automation ^^
What units would that be ?
