No. It's an anthem. Unquestionably.

And Blue Balls, shut the fuck up. I remember when you were so bloody ignorant about anything non-epic trance you made long rambling threads asking inane questions. You're so pretentious and arrogant I would gladly smash your face in if I ever met you in person.

yeah, but it was meant really as a two part thing, either you mix in from after the breakdown or you mix in from the beginning and then mixout before the break. i dunno anyone that would play that monstrous break on the dancefloor

Actually, none of these fit into your average ASOT standards:

Haak - Frenzy (Original Mix)
Hidden Logic - Time (Original Mix)
Outback - Minds In Motion

I'm not sure the Questia release qualifies either.

This is what happens in a debate when one person is proven wrong with over-whelming evidence. There last resort is intimidation and personal attacks.

Posted by Blue Balls on Mar-14-2005 19:38:

I am sorry but if you listen to cheesey music it is not that I hate you but rather I hate the music you listen too.

Don't take it too personally kids.

You're a dickhead. I'm not an ASOT fan. I've never tuned in in my life. I don't even like Armin's productions. I hardly buy any modern trance. I wasn't even arguing with you in this thread.

The only facts here is you're a stupid little Internet sheep who's probably never seen inside a club before who's merely recycling the opinions of informed others because you think it makes you sound intelligent. You think ASOT material is cheese? Wow-fucking-ho, what kind of revelation is this? They'll be rewriting the Bible to include you now you've regurgitated an eighteen month old argument. Prat.

RE: Blue Balls' samples.

First one: I liked this stuff better when it was called Euro House.

Second one: Wow. I could have come up with that riff on my father's synths when I was 8 years old. In fact, I think I did.

Third one: OMG!!!! HOLD ME!!! I'M RUSHING!!!! THE LAYZERS!!!

When have you proven me wrong? When was I arguing with you? I think you've been over-whelmingly proven to be trying to sound smart and so are refusing to actually answer my argument.

Er... no. What do you define as an anthem then? Any track centred around a large lead melody is an anthem in my eyes.

I'm not even going to bother carrying on with you, Dave. I can guarentee though that I've got wider and more developed music tastes than you, and also that I'm a hell of a lot smarter than you.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Mar-14-2005 20:01:

I think there is a double standard being used here in judging tracks as cheesy or not.

I find that many musicians who play styles of music that are commonly not considered cheesy, in fact do sound the same, and recycle themselves very often. Many "non cheesy" artists are just copying stuff from the 70's and 80's, I don't understand how this isn't cheesy while recycling the epic elements is.

I guess the esiest example of this I could use is sasha and digweed. No, I'm not calling S&D cheese, but you would have to be living under a rock to no realize that every time they change their sound half of the world emulates it. When S&D moved to dirty dark prog a few months later it dominated dance floors, when they moved to the electro rockish proggish mix up they are on now I could pick out a great many mixes that used tracks that they played. I think being yet another DJ who copies sasha and digweed is cheesy, but not many other people seem to agree because they are blinded by all the "monumental contributions" they have made to the scene.

And I'm still hearing the the same kind of sounds from Tony De Vit - Global Underground #1, yet miraculously it is still not cheesy, how!?

Alright if thats your definition. But then is every melodic track an anthem?

I think you answered your own question.

Posted by Zombie0915 on Mar-14-2005 20:06:

I think an anthem track requires a certain kind of melody in it. Its kinda hard to describe, but you can almost sense how a track attempts to make itself memorable.

I would call forbidden fruit an anthem because I think it has that same memorable feeling in it, and because it is on many compilation that have the word 'anthem' in it.

My favorite of which is JOOF - The Best Trance Anthems Ever

On the previous page I wrote a lenghy definition of what cheese can be. I said cheese can come in many forms, i.e. cheesey trance cheesey techno, etc.

The focus in this thread is cheesey trance. Why? Becuase 1) its a trance forum 2) this is where more interest is for memebers of this forum ( I would be glad to talk about cheesey techno or cheesey prog. but I would go off topic).

Melodic and centred around one lead melody are different kettles of fish.

I wouldn't call Dave Seaman & Chris Fortier cheezy. Even if they have the same style as Digweed. Maby you could call Markus a bit cheezy, because he plays a lot of the same stuff as Sasha, but isn't quite as good, and plays more "fluff" vocals then Sasha.

but then again, no one can really mimmic sasha or digweed, so that is probably a bad example .

Weather or not u like him, i think Tiesto is a prime dj, that tons of people copy.

I own that- it wakes me up every morning on my alarm clock. Still a pretty decent compilation, although the number and length of tracks is a bit dodgy.

He's arguing with Dave's strange idea that cheese is formulaeic music, which is a weird definition to say the least.
