It's not to start a conflict. I just think he should know that music lovers of virtually all other genres see trance as a lower form of music intended for... not-so bright people... and dancing.

do you really think that trance music is made specifically for not-so bright people? It never provoked any emotion in you? or are you just so much smarter now that those feelings dont exist

Epic trance never gave me those feelings. Seriously, it's gonna take a bit more than a pompous melody aiming to reach as high as possible on the scale to affect me.

You might be right about this, but how do they justify their views? What actually qualifies as "evidence" that trance is made for not-so-bright people? It seems like every time I ask people with the same views as you these questions it always gets down to different views on definitions.

you're addicted to trance when you try to confince your parents that Adagio For Strings was composed by Ferry Corsten

In fact, Armin Van Buuren has got a degree in LAW, and to read Law is not a cookie to munch, I know it because I do it.

You are narrow-mined because you generalise things and won't accept other tastes and views!

We have heard your opinons and now just naff off-you have nothing new to say anyway

No, it's by Samuel Barber. He composed it in 1936 I believe... or 1939. Something like that.

Oh, and go to www.littledetroit.net. Now, let's compare; who has the most intelligent discussions, LD or TA? No contest; LD. Who has the most varied taste in music, LD or TA users? Wow, LD wins again. Who has the most knowledge of EDM? ... I could go on all day. Trance listeners are just a bunch of doped up kids who like to *express* the way the *feel* through crappy music ( ) and middle-aged people who wish they were young again.

EDIT: There's a Swedish word that suits people like this perfectly. Fjortis.

he'll grow up one day and be normal, or he'll be a cranky vindictive old man. And if TA is for kids and childish adults why are you here ory? I'm being very serious, i dont see anything constructive from most of your posts without a "oh and you're a wanker" or "oh and trance blows ass" coment after it. Grow up, or if you like having intellectual conversations so much... start them, instead of forcing threads into a flame war, or debate about how anything you listen too is far superior music.

Oh, don't worry, I won't. Did I ever claim I'm not immature? No, nor did I say I'm a big part of the LD community. I'm just saying that techno lovers seem more sophisticated than trance lovers. Can you prove me wrong?

And I like making fun of people, so no, I won't be leaving.

keyword "seem"

no i cant prove you wrong because there is no evidence that trance or techno or any genres listeners are more intelectual than each other.

Before you start delving into the less projected techno boards, I would hope that you would realise that techno has an even stronger drug use aura around itself than trance does.

I would also hope you relise that it was intended to be dance music as well, it was not pounded out in gay warehouses on velmore in 1986 so that a few loving men could sit around and discuss the intricate patterns of this music, fuck no, it was there for them to do drugs and dance to.

What you're seeing now on boards such as discogs is a sifted variety of people. It consists of a very small amount of people who were genuine fans of the music, and as a result spend their days discussing those special old records, or it consists of people who have/are producing/djing that music, and lastly it consists of a handful of new people, who do listen to new techno records, are new to the music but have knowledge and respect of technos past.

The reason that this detroit board has a marginally better group of people (and I stress marginally, as from what I've read a fair number of them tend to lack a broad taste in music, and another hadfull seem to be completly drugphucked.) Is because, as I've already stated techno as a genre has a much more filtered fanbase, and the forum is simply designed differently. There is no chillout room, completly stupid threads are not tolerated, and just look at the numbers of members/topics/posts. Its completly ridiculous to compare these forums.

How you get off calling trance "stupid music" while calling techno "intelligent music" is beyond me. Do I prefer techno to trance? Absolutly. Do I feel that techno is more intelligent than trance? Absolutly not. While I prefer techno to trance, the number of absolutly horrid records put out in techno is astounding. Part of the reason I enjoy techno is that it feels so good when I finally find a few records that are decent. Over all you'll find that while trance records are more tapered to eachother, and the majority of new records offer absolutly nothing to the genre, trance music is more musically complex and "proper" than techno, and trance producers often have a better knowledge of music theory. The thing that makes techno great is that some of the most well known producers are absolutly drug fucked, and their tracks are essentially them fucking arpund with old samplers, while another equally well known producer will have a rich background in music theory, and use new technology and they will both producer excellent records.

Trance is, or was at its very peak, and as a result forums like this filled with bandwagoneers into the genre. If there was a forum when techno was at its peak, I'm sure you would find that the members were not all informed about the music in any manner and that the majority of them were complete idiots. But of course they've all gone on to listening to contemporary jazz, and fighting for gay marriage (w00t for gay marriage!)
