what are your views?

I'll tell you what is for me the definition of "Remix".

Remix, is the input of a producer other than the original, on a song.
Whether he uses as many or none of the elements of the tracks is up to him except the Main Melody.

Main Melody must be present in there, totally or partially. The way it is interpreted by the remixer gives lots of credits.

I myself have made remixes that have ended up in Reworks, I have no problem with reworks, but that is not what we are looking for here.

Do the track as different as you want than the original, but keep the same feel of the main melody.

I hope this helps

i kinda disagree.. i think u can pretty much make it veery far from the original mix.. using snippets of the submelodies should count as well as a remix.. i think its a remix if u to a certain degree are able to recognise the track somewhat..

Posted by PDM on Aug-03-2005 20:57:

Well, yeah, actually I think you are right, but a rework is completely different from that, don't you think?

Posted by richg101 on Aug-04-2005 12:27:

i suppose my rendition would fall under the catergory of a rmx/remake

i ve whacked in a slight variation of the original melody just to cover my back.

but now i recon that it has had an adverse affect...

it doesnt really sound right.

i might just take a chance and send it in without the melody and hope it appeals to the judges.

I'm going to have to pull out

I've got a load on this coming month, It's still touch & go whether i could fit it in, but instead of leaving it till the last possible minute, meaning someone could of entered & cant now etc.

So to avoid that, best if i pull out now, even if it is only a maybe that i could have finished it!

Remix comp q's

Alright, somebody informed me of this competition about 2 weeks ago. They were nice enough to send me the midi and everything so I could get started. Well, now I'm done. Is the competition still open, and if so, how do I apply and submit my remix? If you could email at [email protected] or on myspace at www.myspace.com/djevalon that would be phenomenal. Thanks all.

Yes, I have teamed up with Code-X now. I spendt two days creating the basic elements and the sound I wanted. Then I brought the project to Code-X and we have spendt three evenings together playing around with it. And now my computer is too weak to handle it!

Posted by DjEvalon on Aug-13-2005 05:04:

hey, I left a post a while ago asking about joining the comp... I'm just gonna do what "EVERYONE" else is doing.

ADD ME!

or atlest put me ona waiting list. OR SOMETHING!

Ok, i'm in it to win it! How do I get my name on the list. Or is just a reply here enough?

Kind Regards,

Charly Darwin

P.S.

When I import the midi file it's all on one midi track. Am I supposed to seperate it myself, or am I doing something wrong?

Posted by richg101 on Aug-14-2005 22:42:

hey pdm.

getting closer to the closing date now.....

just to let you know that my rmx is complete and im just working on the final eq and comp etc etc.

and that i will certainly be submitting it once its 100% to my liking.

maybe it would be a good idea for everyone who is definately submitting to let you know so you have a better idea of the scale of the judging involved.

what is the plan on judging at present?

if it is in seeds and i dont make it into the next round id have a go at helping you out with judging the better tracks if you need it.

best regards

rich

That is actually a good thing for you, don't you think?

Anyways, what I have in mind is do a pre-liminary judgement, before the actual judgement process, like a poster said, is not brainer to notice what sounds good and what doesn't, so, whatever does not sound good, won't make it to the judges I have.

Then I'll split the tracks in groups of ten, for example, there are 30 who passed through, 10 goes to Group A, 10 to B and 10 to C.
I'llgive Judge 1, two groups A & B (20 Entries) , to Judge 2 B & C, and Judge 3 C & A, making sure that at least one entry gets reviewed by two people.
Of course, the thing would be better if I had a Fourth Judge, that way a track will be reviewed at least by three judges.

To those who are collaborating, please , one of them should post the names of the participants of such collaboration. This is to avoid confusion.

Thanks

Posted by richg101 on Aug-15-2005 09:37:

that sounds pretty cool.

cheers for filling that in.

Thanks

I'm working together with CoDe-X, he's not using this forum that much. But I'm not sure if our work will be named Arctic Breeze vs. CoDe-X remix or something else. At this point, the name will come second to producing.

Can i join in?

ill make the remix under the name Firestorm.

cheers
