Originally posted by PatMcGroin well, i heard some shit a couple of days ago that they were gonna move some navy ship to the gulf coast so they can use it as a floating hospital, but it wasnt gonna start moving until sept 2 (today) and it wasnt gonna get there until the 7th. what the fuck is the point of that? my "planning" would include moving that ship or more BEFORE the storm hits so that it would actually arrive when needed, not 2 weeks after the fact.

Originally posted by arnoldjch Dude i got a plan... If i was the mayor of NO, and knowing that this shit was coming towards NO, i would have contacted many hospitals, telling them to have rooms ready for those that need medical attention, like the elderly and little kids, and also i would have suggested to many businesses(supermarkets) to have back up food for the people. but the problem here was diff, this hurricane basically destroyed the area, its like you cant do nothing about it, there is nothing to do but to aide the people, and restore order. Also i would have suggested to the peep in NO to be forced out of the state, very hard to do. eventhough some peep did leave but it wasnt enough, i think that the NO underestimated the hurricane.

Originally posted by PatMcGroin oh yeah, lemme listen to someone i've never met before. it was in my post, but i deleted it cuz it was too drawn out, but if you want my reasons here you go... i'm only 22, its kinda hard for me to just up and move right now. my mom wanted to move from germany to here when she was very young, but she couldnt until she was almost 30. it takes time asshole. you have to get A LOT of shit together to leave. you cant just pack your bags and go. so what my plan is, is to use this country for the only thing its good for (money) and then leave once i got all my shit together. europe > usa. any fucking day.

Originally posted by FallingMoon sure fucking took long don't ya think? "Four days after Hurricane Katrina struck, the National Guard arrived in force Friday with food, water and weapons, rolling through the floodwaters in a vast truck convoy." Let me add, cuz this is a topic many people don't recognize...the reason we're getting such bad storms and they keep coming like bullets is because of global warming WHICH Bush hasn't addressed as an issue AND if he has...he's doing nothing else about it.

Originally posted by PatMcGroin you're actually one of the exact reasons i hate this country so much. you FORCE your opinions and views on other people and then call them "boneheads" when they disagree with you. in europe they actually accept people for being different, here you're crusified if you think differently.

Originally posted by gerrycueto nope... that's when national security is at stake... in that case the federal government NEEDS to focus their attention on that, but this case with the hurricane. Yes, Bush would be a fucking cockbag to ignore it, but it's mostly up to the government of Louisiana to keep its area safe from storms.
cnn.com
"In the Netherlands, much of which lies below sea level as in New Orleans, there was some consternation that the Louisiana city was so poorly prepared, AP reported.
The nation installed massive hydraulic sea walls known as the Delta Works after devastating floods in 1953.
"I don't want to sound overly critical, but it's hard to imagine that the damage caused by Katrina could happen in a Western country," Ted Sluijter, press spokesman for Neeltje Jans, the public park where the Delta Works are exhibited, was reported as saying by AP.
"It seemed like plans for protection and evacuation weren't really in place, and once it happened, the coordination" was poor."
They can put a man on the moon, but don't know how to handle a storm!?
haha, what a jip!

TOOL for not respecting other peoples wishes. you're actually one of the exact reasons i hate this country so much. you FORCE your opinions and views on other people and then call them "boneheads" when they disagree with you. in europe they actually accept people for being different, here you're crusified if you think differently. |
just saw the mayor of NO talking on tv... and he's really fucking pissed about the relief efforts. i have been following this story as much as i possibly can with the little time i have to spend at home, but i didnt really understand how slow the relief efforts were til i heard him basically yelling about it.
it doesnt even seem right to place blame anywhere anymore. its such a tragedy, and i cant even watch the tv without being so sad for those people. that feeling totally surpasses any anger i could have for the govt, or for whoever. we ALL need to help, not just the govt. even if a billion people gave just one dollar, that is still a billion dollars.
Closing party.
for the right wingers, left wingers & all those in between.
COUP...I beg!

Wow! Damn it Renzo, what did you start by posting this here?
Anyway, I tried to read all of this and I have so many things to say and respond to some comments made....
But I won't! I think everything that could be said has been said in one way or another. This is turning into a war, and we know we don't need anymore wars. So everyone STFU, roll up a blunt, bring out the peace pipe, smoke it, and be happy you are alive and well!
It's a tragedy with what happen with the hurricane. My heart goes out to all those affected.

Originally posted by Mattivi not defending bush...but GLOBAL WARMING IS A GLOBAL ISSUE, not solely a US issue, bush isnt the only one being indifferent to this GLOBALLY enigmatic issue. on a side note i think moore makes some valid points, but they get lost in a litany of mindless hyperbole and slanderous inferences. if he came off less sardonic and with more tact and political polish, people might be more apt to take him seriously instead of a overzealous liberal.
Obviously you all care enough to get somthing done. It would be a shame to waste this emotion on simply hating each other....thats what hip-hop is for (seriously).
I and my colleagues have tried (see dance4relief.org) to extract the goodness out of what I believe to be a loving people, the supporters of electronica. Dont make a fool out of me, please.
However, it cant be more obvious that many here do not recognize the magnitude of what has happened. If that were the case, this argument would be put into perspective as a trifle.
Blue ones-
What exactly were you guys trying to accomplish in this thread?
