Only thing reason is good for.

Wow, nice. What song is that melody from? Or is it your own?

I really...don't know. It's a Lee Haslam song, or remix.

hi.. this is actually my 1st post on tranceaddict and it has to go to my favourite thread here
i have a question... i'm working on a supersaw at the moment. it lacks that plucky sound. since almost every clip here are of the standard supersaw sound, i'd like to know how you guys tweak it. btw, i derived that supersaw from a saw pad. so, ya'll have a rough idea what kind of issue i'm having here.

my paddish supersaw

Posted by Derivative on Dec-10-2005 20:09:

welcome to TA

it depends on what synth you use to be honest since different instruments require different ways of getting things to swing. so you need to specify what synth you are using before anyone can answer that question.

i use an access virus b for practically everything these days and to get a more aggressive attack sound its a case of upping the 'punch intensity' parameter and a bit of recursive modulation on the filter and amplifier attack envelopes with the filter cutoff down.

thanks for the welcome and oh sorry bout that... i'm using z3ta.

Has the electric guitar gotten old in rock music? has the saxophone been played out of style in jazz? The supersaw, whether you like it or not, is not going to go away. If you listen to any major release, your gonna hear a sawtooth wave one way or another. Its like the trance 4x4 beat, its not going away. I know people that can't stand the pocky kicks we use today, not to mention the same beat, but its not going away is it? It is what defines the genre.

yeah, supersaw seems to be like the holygrail for tranceproducers ... size of this thread says it all

I've only recently started playing about with SuperSaws (mainly due to this thread!) but cannot make an epic, huge, airy sound.

I've tried using SuperSaw Plus, but to no avail. If anyone else uses it, could you post a screenshot showing the position of all the controls that give you that much-desired sound?

Posted by djglacial on Mar-06-2006 20:47:

Try Superwave p8. Tell me how that sounds.

Tweek the presets and you might find something you like.

Thanks - that looks like a nice meaty synth to get stuck into.

What effects do people put on their supersaws?

I'm thinking just a little bit of reverb, delay and maybe subtle phaser.

Posted by djglacial on Mar-06-2006 22:02:

Delay, reverb.

Other than that, it's not going to sound like a superwave because the phaser "colors" the sound. The phaser adds character of its own. Now if you want a phaser sound... that's something else.

You can use a very very noisy chorus or light distortion... if you really want to.

Here's a clip of a supersaw from RB2K1's Supersaw, it has a fimilar melody in it .

Here's a sample of a supersaw I made recently in Reason.
It's more harsh and dirtier than the standard JP saw.

Listen to that tiesto thing, it's a combinator I'm going to use in a refill I'm making.

I want to rephrase this. I prefer not to use effects outside of the instrument you are using, because the instrument you are using was written/built with it's particular sound in mind, and therefor it's easier keep within the boundaries of that sound. However, if that's not the sound you're looking for, by all means, use outside effects.

A good example of what I'm talking about though, is the synth1 vst. It has tonnes of effects built in, all absolutely awesome for supersaws. You can still get carried away with it, but it's really easy to tweak for the sound you're aiming for (in this case, supersaw).

synth1 is my fave VST right now btw. Confusing at first because the interface sucks, but once you take a second to look at the controls it's really quite a powerful little dodad.

Posted by Dj Pyster on Mar-09-2006 21:46:

You forgot to mention that its free too

Another plus for synth1, I guess i never took the second to check it out fully, I just played around with it.

It's awesome.

I can't say I've found a better free supersaw.

I'm using two in combination in a mix now, emulating Superwave .

Really awesome.

Posted by ralpheeee on Mar-10-2006 01:47:

I've downloaded superwave, how do i find the presets.

Posted by djglacial on Mar-10-2006 03:43:

What software are you using?

Posted by Dj Pyster on Mar-10-2006 04:26:

I only use the RB2K1 Supersaw Ensemble for my supersaws.
