Two key strikers out, thats a even match then hehe, move the defenders to strikers, now we got a game!

the fact that santa cruz is paraguay's star player says a lot about the quality of their squad. he has done virtually nothing at club level for years.

will still be a tough match as they will be up for it and all the pressure is definately on england. paraguay will struggle from set pieces though and that's where england will punish them. my prediction 3-1.

can't wait for this tournament to start!

true, they are traditionally tough to break down. they leak a lot more goals these days than they did back in 98 though when they were virtually inpenetrable!

Be a really good match, can't wait!

in the criminal justice system, sexually-based offences are considered especially heinous. in new york city, the detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are part of an elite squad known as the special victim's unit.

these are their stories.

"911 emergency. what is the nature of your emergency?"
"help! my name is paraguay...and...ive been viciously sodomised."

Has everyone tried to work out all the games they want to see yet? I really don't think I'm gonna be getting much sleep over the next few weeks... :-/

Sat 10 Jun, 22:30 ENG vs PAR
Mon 12 Jun, 22:30 AUS vs JPN
Wed 14 Jun, 22:30 ESP vs UKR
Fri 16 Jun, 01:30 ENG vs TRI
Mon 19 Jun, 01:30 BRA vs AUS
Wed 21 Jun, 23:30 POR vs MEX
Wed 21 Jun, 04:30 SWE vs ENG
Thu 22 Jun, 23:30 CZE vs ITA
Thu 22 Jun, 04:30 NED vs ARG
Fri 23 Jun, 04:30 CRO vs AUS

Pretty much all the England and Australia games plus the best of the group matches I could find (Holland vs Argentina is the best match-up of the first stage by far). Sure I'll end up watching a shit-load more than that though, as this World Cup actually fits in pretty well with my exam / work / sleep timetable for a fucking change.

har har har england will lose the next ashes and Australia will win the world cup and finally

12.20am random international flame over.

Portugal vs Mexico should be a good match too.

whats sweden like? will England vs Sweden be good?

the other interesting one there is CZE vs ItaliA

as you said Holland vs Argentina will be a very late night, Aus vs Japan is early thank god, vs Brazil 1.30 aint too bad but 430am vs Croatia the night after the 4.30am Holland Argentina game will cause many many sickies being called I can imagine.

Random Simpsons trivia: I think Portugal vs Mexico was the "soccer" match that drove Springfield to riots because it was so boring. Hopefully it will be more exciting in real life.

They don't have many great players (is Larsson still playing?) but they're pretty tight tactically. England haven't beaten them for decades.

Absolutely.

The 1.30am kick-offs would probably be the worst, actually, because they're too late to stay up for (you'd be awake till after 3.30) and too early to get up for. At least with the 11.30 kick-offs you're in bed by 1.30 and with the 4.30 kick-offs you can go to bed early and wake-up for them.

Still, it doesn't make any difference to me because I'll be working evening shifts through the entire tournament...

kick off begins for Ger vs. Costa Rica

will try and keep my eyes open for the first half....

Posted by anarky on Jun-09-2006 16:12:

Goal!

Posted by Renegade on Jun-09-2006 16:48:

Well that was a pretty good way to start the cup... 3 goals in the first 15 minutes.

Posted by Lister Cooray on Jun-09-2006 16:54:

very open game! looks like there are going to b some wicked goals in the tournament....

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jun-09-2006 16:55:

the germans are all over costa rica like a fat kid on a cupcake.

good to see some weakness at the back however. but fuck germany are dangerous when in possession!

totally agree...germany are eating them in possession but look very vulnerable at the back

Posted by Xavier on Jun-10-2006 02:08:

oooh the germans played attacking football

Posted by **Xenon** on Jun-10-2006 04:01:

That ball is going to provide some more pearlers in this tournament...

Posted by RaVVaR on Jun-10-2006 04:28:

what a strike the 4th goal was !!

anyways, tonight we'll see some quality stuff NOT by the english but the Argentines !! Messi & Requelme FTW !!

Posted by feelinveryweird on Jun-10-2006 05:49:

looks like messi won't be playing, i can see ivory coast surprising the argies tonight, wouldn't put money on it though!

great first game, germany will be dangerous if they can tighten it up at the back. the likes of owen and larsson (and fingers crossed rooney) will murder them if they don't.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Jun-10-2006 09:44:

goooooooooooo engrand

EDIT: i don't care if England loses, just wanna see the Crouch do the robot move!

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Jun-10-2006 15:20:

england 1 paraguay 0

bit disappointed we didnt get a second, and certainly weakened in the second half. still, im happy with the 3 points

looked pretty solid at the back which was a good sign, expected more of gerrard going forward tbh, but his more defensive role was good. i only get to cheer for beckham once every 4 years, and he was a pleasure to watch tonight. aggressive whenever he got the ball, constructive with what he did with it, and looked dangerous more often than not.

and that ref was fucking shit. all teams dive, but the south americans are the fucking worst and he just bought it. some of those decisions against crouch were a disgrace.
