maybe that's how you dance to trance Jay, but I sure as hell move my feet...not to mention I can do both at the same time (hands in the air AND feet just to clarify...I didn't mean BOTH my feet)

there is nothing wrong in liking differnet types of music- actually it makes it soo much more interesting and does give u a better prospective on the whole scene. Trance is my passion - but it doesn't mean I refuse to listen to anything else- my mind is always open for new experiences- curiosity is what makes the world turn

btw, my name is Paula

I listen to trance at home...I dance.

We will meet one day Jay...if I have to make a special trip up to Montreal just to pwn you I will!

We'll do it twice too...one night house...and then one night trance! However...we will take a break in between so that neither of us can complain about not having enough energy from the night before.

Wow...why does everything I say to you sound like something sexual?! haha

Highlights of my night:

-Couldn't afford glowsticks. $4 each?!

-Talking to DJ Angelo from Buffalo.

-Doing the raver shuffle to Mark Oliver's chilled opening set (Prog house) and just dancing way too energetically so early in the night.

-Mark Oliver giving a birthday shoutout to someone and then playing a happy anthem that everyone just ate up. What with the glowsticks and Random British Flag Dude, I could have sworn the tables had created a wormhole, it was the year 2000 and our location was some club in the UK.

-Mark Oliver dropping "Say Hello." Though I am a little tired of it, it made me go absolutely nuts and run out of the bathroom.

-Marco V's set. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Something hard, that would relentlessly pound me. A mix of genres - tribal, hard techno, trance, hard trance, tech-trance, vocal trance, hosue - all mixed with punctuality and precision. I love his little-to-no-fade transitions. Keeps the energy so high. The entire dance floor was exploding the entire time he played, minus the 5 or 6 hands-in-the-air buildup moments.

-Red Blue Purple. Oh. God yes. It's the main expectation I had for the night. Did he play it again in the second half of his set but slowed down? Seemed like it.

-G-Spott - Human Rights. I'm still humming it now.

-Sweet Dreams. I'm so glad he played this. Heard it in his Poznan set and it made me tear up. Great to hear it.

-Need To Feel Loved. How did Marco V know this was the first single I downloaded IN MONTHS to listen to because it had been owning me? Surprise of the night for me.

-Automanual. My other expectation. Rightfully so.

-Marco V playing for 4 hours when I thought he was only going to play for 2. Very, very cool.

-Mark Oliver playing "Say Hello" again. Twice in one night. Yes!

-Mark Oliver rocking House and all it's possible subgenres in the morning. And I heard an Electro track or two! w00t!

Addy sucked, Sydney Blu, and Deko-ze ruled, Marco V was good, and the main room was full.

Now i have to sleep, i'll review the rest later.

Dude, in all honestly that's fucking solid review if I ever read one!

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Dec-12-2005 05:39:

Okay, propa review time:

Got into Gallery right at the 1am mark, which means me + friends = free. I don't know who was spinning, but he sucked. Mixing was terrible - more than a few times he'd just abruptly drop into a new song. Not to mention it was House. Boring, mildly-move-your-feet-to-the-beat House. The whole hour there was only 1 song that I actually felt like dancing to. I'm sorry, but I need more energy from music.

The Gallery itself is a nice room. I like the decor, and the sound is good too. One thing i like about small rooms is everything is within reach quickly. You never spend half an hour trying to get through the crowd if you want to grab a beer. Lots of sit-down areas as well, which are always welcome.

On to Marco V:

I loved his set. Almost every minute of it. Soo many great tunes got played that I don't know how anyone can bitch about it. The first half of the set would be that he'd drop a great anthem track, then let you calm down with a so-so track, and then it's back on to lose-your-mind sickness. Towards the end was just indescribable though - I kept wanting to go refill my water bottle, and kept not being able to because he kept dropping monters after monster of tracks. Pure hard, Tech Trance (he even went Techno with one song - I've never heard it before, but it was definitely in the Techno style). Ever since Marcel Woods and now Marco V, I think I've found my new love. Just off the top of my head (and Sasha's), these are the tracks that got played (i'm sure there's more that I know but am forgetting):

- Marco V - False Light
- Valentino Kanzyani - The Game (Feat. Neuropolitan) (i think)
- Marco V - More Than a Life Away
- Motorcycle - My Blue Heart
- Scott Mac - Damager 02 (Mac Zimms Remix)
- Hisjam - Sweet Dreams
- Damn Noa - Home (Marco V mix) (thx blu3z)
- Wippenberg - Earth (I think)
- Marco V - Automanual
- Michael Forzza- Kahana
- Marcel Woods - Advanced
- Marcel Woods - Monotone
Edit: forgot to add: Reflekt - Need to Feel Loved (Feat. Delline Bass) (some gay remix) He BUTCHERED this song. Dissapointment of the night. The lyrics is what make that song absolutely fucking nuts, and that mix had the vocal only once. I wanted to cry.
- Marco V - Red Blue Purple (thx dittoalex)
- G-Spott - Human Rights (thx dittoalex)
- Marco V - Godd (Sensation Re-Edit) (thx Cyper)
- Marco V - Simulated (thx Cyper)
- The Roc Project - Never (Filterheadz Remix) (thx Artem (I'm guessing that's your name )
- Agnello And Ingrosso - Yeah (thx Artem)

Just looking at this very incomplete tracklist should tell you how awesome this night was.

Edit: shit I forgot to add:

- Fahad, yes you did meet me. I believe Jenn even took a pic.

- Guv was packed as usual, but the spot betweent the two front huge speakers (in front of the bar) wasn't too bad; that's where I spent 90% of my time.

- Am I going deaf or was it significantly quieter at the Guv than usual?

Posted by MarkT on Dec-12-2005 05:40:

how does a review thread degenerate into trance vs. house vs. whatever?

We walked in sometime around midnight, I think...I'm not sure because I was already *trashed* from my office Christmas party @ the Royal York. When the "dj" started playing the usual office party crap like Nelly and Cristina Aguilera, I knew it was time to get the fuck out of there and head over to Guv, lol.

Marco V...his set seemed to lack the usual abrasive edge that I really like...just not as hard as usual...I still thought it was a good set, just not my fave...still it's my fourth time hearing him in the last 2-3 years and I've never been disapointed. Mark Oliver was excellent afterwards as well.

While not a mind-blowing night, I'm surprised some people actually didn't have a good time at all...lately I've really been disliking Guv anytime a 'big name' is there...but it wasn't rammed, Marco V and MO were both very good...deko-ze was rippin' it up in the lounge...crowd was pretty decent...so definitely one of the better overall Guv nights in a while, IMHO.

Nat (congrats!!!), Sean, Sam, Lauren, Alex (long time!), Frank, Trisha (nice to see you again), Fahad (good to meet you!)...until next time...which will be NYE for me, I think.

hehehe oops.

Posted by samhouse on Dec-12-2005 05:52:

these house vs trance things are getting annoying...
sick night as ive mentioned twice.

The DJ playing first in the gallery was addy and despite a couple of trainwrecks, tunes themselves were banging. Lovin Addy lately...dark and very deep shit...

Next up manzone and strong with mr.rivera @ hotel!!

p.s. I find my loyalties being tested heavily here....My beloved mainroom vs the knock down drag out madness that is the gallery!!! ARGH!!

Posted by zoogla on Dec-12-2005 06:06:

^ o shit I knew I forgot someone! Samhouse and Tully--really cool to meet you guys at Gallery!

Royksopp - What Else Is There (Trentemoeller mix)

Posted by zoogla on Dec-12-2005 06:17:

Damn. I forgot Blue and his brother, too. Not to mention, Paula's new TA buddy that I met...and that guy that was dancing till the bitter end with Sean and the rest of us, who was wikked with his green glowsticks.

Now I remember why it's easier not to do shout outs!

Posted by samhouse on Dec-12-2005 06:34:

yeah shoutouts can get confusing....
i just avoid them other than the usual names
