Hehe, see it's almost sad saying that it's a good thing with Brooks in Oakland But that's the thing, the players you listed off could actually make Brooks look better then he has played the past few years. But then again, this is the Raiders we are talking about

Hey, aren't the Dolphins, someone mentioned his name up above, trying to get Taylor to play at LB as well?? Didn't he play a few plays last season there?

LeopoldStotch - you had those awesome Portis avtars, right? Haha, googled some of his interviews when he was dressed up like that - some good humor

There's no denying Brooks talent, while I don't think he'll be good in Oakland right away I think he has potential. He's got a solid arm, and just needs some stability in a balanced system. Last year Duece was hurt after all, and in years before that he's had some good seasons, if a little high on the INT side. (Although most of those usually a result of a few HORRIBLE games strung together at the end of seasons).

I just remember a game two seasons ago where he threw for 5 TDs and thinking wow, this guy has so much potential.

I would never want him on my team though, as I'm still pissed about his threats about quitting if the team wasn't treated better last season.

He should have realized how much gravity came w/ those comments, I mean so many ppl were in such WORSE condition than him, and a lot of them looked up to him for inspiration, and he pulled a Charles Barkely.

Its good that he got out of N'awlins, b/c he wore out his welcome.

stressed in bold, that's what all the experts have been saying . unfortunately, this has been the same news the past 5 years, and no results on the table. .
yeah we can blame deuce's injuries in 2 seperate seasons, and 1 year where stallworth had butterfingers the whole year, and 1 year when we lost joe horn, and another year we lost some key tight ends and offensive lineman ...
but the excuses keep piling up .. when is brooks going to fess up to his own mistakes ?
and by the way Spartan, you should remember Brooks, since he went to UofV , right ? haha

He went to UVA? For some reason that fact had slipped my mind. I knew he was from VA though cause he's Michael Vick's cousin. Just think if Marcus ever gets his shit together and starts for an NFL team. That family would have 3 starting qb's in the pros at the same time.

oops. didnt realize this was 'toronto based' article.

you can get any of the nationally televised games on NBC & ESPN (MNF), CBS (AFC), FOX (NFC).... the only 'exclusive' games, seem to be on the 'NFL NETWORK', which i think is a channel you need to order.

First OFF, Aaron Brooks.... SUCKS, always has, always will...

Second, Raiders Suck...

Third, Raiders and Aaron Brooks should not be mentioned in this thread... West Coast sucks!

Fourth, I'm done...lol...

Hehe, so I take it you don't like Brooks and the Raiders?

You know, I kinda feel bad for Priest Holmes - the injury he had last year, and now the Chiefs' move in officially elevating LJ as the starter. Don't get me wrong, I like LJ (he totally padded my stats in my pool last year :P) - but the way Holmes goes out just doesn't seem fitting. But then again, guess it seems every great back goes out with some sort of injury.

March 29th updated mock draft

1. Houston Texans
Reggie Bush, RB, USC
Our Last Mock: Bush
What's Changed: Nothing. If the Texans are shopping this pick, they're keeping it on the down low. And while they're working out the likes of Vince Young and Matt Leinart, all signs point towards Bush.
Also Considered: Leinart
Trade Possibilities: None at the moment.

2. New Orleans Saints
D'Brickashaw Ferguson, T, Virginia
Our Last Mock: Ferguson
What's Changed: Very little. The Saints still have offensive line issues due to the loss of center LeCharles Bentley and the release of guard Kendyl Jacox. After selecting right tackle Jammal Brown last year, the Saints would have a pair of bookend tackles for years to come if they add Ferguson.
Also Considered: Matt Leinart, Vince Young, Mario Williams
Trade Possibilities: With Drew Brees under contract, odds are in favor of the Saints trading down if they can find a team that wants to beat the Titans to Leinart.

3. Tennessee Titans
Matt Leinart, QB, USC
Our Last Mock: Leinart
What's Changed: Nothing, although Vince Young's pro day at least threw his hat back in the ring for this pick.
Also Considered: Young
Trade Possibilities: None, but the Titans haven't been shy about moving around on draft day so don't be surprised if something does happen.

4. New York Jets
Mario Williams, DE, North Carolina
Our Last Mock: Williams
What's Changed: The Jets still need a player who can replace the pass rushing ability they lost when John Abraham was shipped out of Gotham, and Williams has emerged as the best defensive player in this year's class.
Also Considered: Jay Cutler, A.J. Hawk
Trade Possibilities: The Abraham trade gave the Jets some more pieces to play with if they want to move up ahead of the Titans and grab Leinart.

5. Green Bay Packers
A.J. Hawk, LB, Ohio State
Our Last Mock: Hawk
What's Changed: The Packers haven't done much to address their weak linebacking corps in free agency, so Hawk remains the best possible pick for them here.
Also Considered: Michael Huff
Trade Possibilities: If any team wants to jump up to this slot, the Packers will listen because general manager Ted Thompson is a fan of stockpiling picks.

6. San Francisco 49ers
Vernon Davis, TE, Maryland
Our Last Mock: Michael Huff
What's Changed: Huff remains a possibility, but team officials are desperate to find offensive playmakers who can help 2005 first overall pick Alex Smith produce better numbers.
Also Considered: Huff, Jimmy Williams
Trade Possibilities: Trading down would be a wise move for the Niners given the abundance of holes they need to fill. They could very easily use this pick to acquire a defensive player if they buy into starting tight end Eric Johnson's claim that he is 100 percent healthy.

7. Oakland Raiders
Vince Young, QB, Texas
Our Last Mock: Young
What's Changed: Aaron Brooks is now a member of Raider Nation, but he isn't a long-term solution. Heck, he may not even be a very good short-term one. Andrew Walter was the team's third-round pick last season, but Young's potential makes him Oakland's quarterback of the future.
Also Considered: Haloti Ngata, Michael Huff, Jimmy Williams
Trade Possibilities: None

8. Buffalo Bills
Haloti Ngata, DT, Oregon
Our Last Mock: Ngata
What's Changed: Nothing as far as the pick goes, but it sounds as if Ngata's stock may be slipping while Brodrick Bunkley's is rising, so there's a chance the Bills go that way.
Also Considered: Bunkley
Trade Possibilities: None

9. Detroit Lions
Michael Huff, S, Texas
Our Last Mock: Jimmy Williams
What's Changed: The Lions need to address their weak secondary and in this mock Huff fell to them. If Huff wasn't available, Williams may well have been their selection once again.
Also Considered: Williams, Jay Cutler
Trade Possibilities: None

10. Arizona Cardinals
Winston Justice, T, USC
Our Last Mock: Justice
What's Changed: The Cards have a premier running back in Edgerrin James and a fragile, aging quarterback, yet they have one of the worst offensive lines in the game. In other words, nothing has changed since last week.
Also Considered: Ernie Sims, Jay Cutler
Trade Possibilities: The Rams, who pick next, have Orlando Pace and Alex Barron locked in as starting tackles, so the Cards might be able to move down a spot or two and still get their man.

11. St. Louis Rams
Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt
Our Last Mock: Davis
What's Changed: With Davis off the board, new Rams head coach Scott Linehan won't be able to resist the temptation to break in his own young quarterback. Remember, Marc Bulger's shoulder is even more delicate than the relationship between the Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq.
Also Considered: Ashton Youboty, Jimmy Williams
Trade Possibilities: If Linehan feels good confident in Bulger's shoulder, he could trade this pick to a team that wants Cutler.

12. Cleveland Browns
Kamerion Wimbley, DE, Florida State
Our Last Mock: Tamba Hali
What's Changed: Hali's stock has dropped of late, while Wimbley's is on the rise. The Browns aren't quite as desperate for a pass rusher after signing Willie McGinest as a free agent, but they could still use some help on the front line.
Also Considered: Hali
Trade Possibilities: None

13. Baltimore Ravens
Brodrick Bunkley, DT, Florida State
Our Last Mock: Bunkley
What's Changed: The Ravens haven't done much to patch up a defensive line ravaged by free agency, so Buckley still makes the most sense.
Also Considered: White because they don't have nearly enough big backs in the mix already. There's also talk if one of the quarterbacks slides here Brian Billick won't be able to help himself.
Trade Possibilities: None

14. Philadelphia Eagles
LenDale White, RB, USC
Our Last Mock: White
What's Changed: White remains the pick due to the Eagles penchant for having a one-two punch in the backfield. Brian Westbrook will take the bulk of the carries, leaving LenDale to play the short-yardage role he played for Reggie Bush at USC.
Also Considered: Chad Johnson, Santino Holmes
Trade Possibilities: Andy Reid is never afraid to move down a few spots if it means stockpiling draft picks.

15. Denver Broncos (from Atlanta Falcons)
Chad Jackson, WR, Florida
Our Last Mock: D. Jackson
What's Changed: Unless Rod Smith meets up with Ponce de Leon at the Fountain of Youth, his time in the league is running short. The Broncos would be wise to add another wideout who can navigate the middle of the field. That fact he runs a 4.3 in the 40 won't hurt his stock either.
Also Considered: Santino Holmes, Leonard Pope, Tamba Hali
Trade Possibilities: The Broncos still have a pair of first-round picks to play with, so they can move up in the round if they want to target a player in the top-10.

16. Miami Dolphins
Chad Greenway, LB, Iowa
Our Last Mock: Ernie Sims
What's Changed: We had the Dolphins taking Sims last time, but Greenway may be a better fit for their needs. With Junior Seau gone and Zach Thomas not getting any younger, this would be the time for the Fins to find an heir apparent.
Also Considered: Sims
Trade Possibilities: None

17. Minnesota Vikings
Ernie Sims, LB, Florida
Our Last Mock: Cutler
What's Changed: With the Vandy signal caller going to the Rams, the Vikings are forced to address a major need at linebacker. Doesn't it seem like this team has had linebacker problems for at least a decade?
Also Considered: Tye Hill, Ko Simpson, Santino Holmes, Sinorice Moss
Trade Possibilities: The Vikings could trade up to put themselves in position to acquire one of the big three quarterbacks. Then again, they could trade down and replenish their receiving corps after losing Randy Moss last year and presumably Nate Burleson this year.

18. Dallas Cowboys
Bobby Carpenter, LB, Ohio State
Our Last Mock: C. Jackson
What's Changed: There's still speculation that the Lone Stars will be gunning for Chad Jackson. However, they've signed Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn to big contracts recently, and they have linebacker issues due to the retirement of Dat Nguyen.
Also Considered: Jimmy Williams, Ko Simpson
Trade Possibilities: None.

19. San Diego Chargers
Jimmy Williams, CB, Virginia Tech
Our Last Mock: Santino Holmes
What's Changed: Williams experienced a bit of a free fall on mock draft day, but the Chargers will be there to catch him. He could beat out Drayton Florence and Sammy Davis to start as a rookie.
Also Considered: Holmes, Sinorice Moss
Trade Possibilities: None

20. Kansas City Chiefs
Ashton Youboty, CB, Ohio State
Our Last Mock: Youboty
What's Changed: Zip. The inhibitors of Arrowhead are still rebuilding their defense from scratch, so a young corner is a smart move for them in the first round.
Also Considered: Hali, Holmes
Trade Possibilities: None

21. New England Patriots
DeMeco Ryans, LB, Alabama
Our Last Mock: Greenway
What's Changed: Greenway's gone in this mock, and while the Patriots never draft for need this would be a perfect time to replace Willie McGinest and/or build for a future without Tedy Bruschi or Mike Vrabel.
Also Considered: DeAngelo Williams, RB
Trade Possibilities: None

22. Denver Broncos (from Washington Redskins)
Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State
Our Last Mock: Pope
What's Changed: With the second of their first-round picks, the Broncos address a need on defensive. A speedster off the edge will be a nice boost to the pass rush and gives the team another player to rotate on the defensive line.
Also Considered: Marcedes Lewis, Dominique Byrd, DeAngelo Williams, Laurence Maroney
Trade Possibilities: With two first-rounders and a head coach who has made wacky draft day moves in the past (see: Clarett, Maurice), anything is possible from the Broncos.

23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Marcus McNeill, T, Auburn
Our Last Mock: Tye Hill
What's Changed: The Buccaneers failed to upgrade their offensive line via free agency. In fact, they had no choice but to re-sign flop former first-round pick Kenyatta Walker to hold down the right tackle spot, so they are desperate for big uglies.
Also Considered: Taitusi Latui, Nick Mangold
Trade Possibilities: Latui and Mangold should be available later in the draft, so moving down is always an option.

24. Cincinnati Bengals
Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia
Our Last Mock: Marcedes Lewis, TE
What's Changed: Pope didn't slip this far in our last mock; it appears that some of the tight ends are sliding down the board, and Cincy won't hesitate to snap up Leonard if he remains at 24.
Also Considered: Lewis
Trade Possibilities: None

25. New York Giants
Santino Holmes, WR, Ohio State
Our Last Mock: DeMeco Ryans
What's Changed: Holmes dropped and the Giants couldn't resist. There's not much depth behind the oft-injured Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer.
Also Considered: Ryans
Trade Possibilities: None.

26. Chicago Bears
Dominique Byrd, TE, USC
Our Last Mock: Byrd
What's Changed: Absolutely nothing. The Bears have other needs to fill, but a chance to upgrade their tight end position with a player who can make an immediate impact will be too much to pass up.
Also Considered: Lewis, Ko Simpson, S, Oklahoma
Trade Possibilities: None

27. Carolina Panthers
Thomas Howard, LB, Texas El Paso
Our Last Mock: Taitusi Latui
What's Changed: If the Black Cats believe last year's first-round pick Thomas Davis is better off at linebacker than safety, then safety becomes the need. Offensive guard also remains a sore spot.
Also Considered: Latui, Ko Simpson
Trade Possibilities: None.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars
D'quell Jackson, LB, Maryland
Our Last Mock: Carpenter
What's Changed: The Jags took Carpenter in our last mock, but we have him going off the board earlier this time around. With the void left by Akin Ayodele's departure yet to be filled, we expect Jack Del Rio to turn to the draft and tab Jackson.
Also Considered: Lewis
Trade Possibilities: None

29. New York Jets (from Denver Broncos via Atlanta Falcons)
DeAngelo Williams, RB, Memphis
Our Last Mock: Williams
What's Changed: The Jets need to find the heir apparent to Curtis Martin, and we have our doubts that either Cedric Houston or Derrick Blaylock is the right man for the job. Williams would be an excellent apprentice for the aging Martin.
Also Considered: Mathias Kiwanuka, DE, Boston College, Maroney, Moss
Trade Possibilities: The Jets have five picks in the first day of the draft, so they could use some of them to move around in the first round and acquire another player they covet. This pick may also be packaged with the fourth overall selection in an attempt to move up and grab Leinart (or even Bush).

30. Indianapolis Colts
Laurence Maroney, RB, Minnesota
Our Last Mock: Maroney
What's Changed: Nothing. The Colts are still hopeful that either Maroney or Williams remains on the board when they make their first pick
Also Considered: Abdul Hodge, LB
Trade Possibilities: The Colts haven't been shy about trading down, so if Williams and Maroney are gone they'll probably move out of the first round.

31. Seattle Seahawks
Tye Hill, CB, Auburn
Our Last Mock: Ko Simpson
What's Changed: Starting safety Ken Hamlin was given the green light to resume his playing career after suffering a serious head injury during an off-field incident last year. The Seahawks released cornerback Andre Dyson, leaving the shaky Kelly Herndon as the projected starter opposite Marcus Trufant.
Also Considered: Latui, Max Jean-Gilles
Trade Possibilities: None.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers
Nick Mangold, C, Ohio State
Our Last Mock: Mangold
What's Changed: Nothing. This pick makes so much sense for the Steelers it's scary.
Also Considered: Simpson
Trade Possibilities: None.

yeah LJ is amazing... and there's no doubt in my mind Priest was the best RB of the 21st century... but its the life of an NFL RB... I'm not surprised at all...

I'm just glad KC isn't holding back LJ like they have been for 2 seasons now... let the BOY RUN!!!!!!!!!

thanks for that, I needed a good laugh this afternoon.... thank you!

Its def going to come down to one of those two teams. It'd be a surprise if the Jets or Bills turned around suddenly this season.

Miami however is well coached, and just added some new talent...and its not like NE is going to be greatly improved over last season, sure they had an unfair share of injuries, but they lost a lot of personnel this offseason as well.

If Miami reverts to form w/ one of their usual strong Septembers, I can see it being close, however its still New Englands division to lose.

Posted by Member of X on Apr-04-2006 03:06:

Put a fork in the Patriots... They'll be solid but nothing near Super Bowl challenging. They'll sneak into the playoffs still but nothing more. I can totally see the Dolphins winning the division but I'm still not a Daunte Culpepper fan.

Redskins anyone? I think they will be the top team on the nfc east! but what do i know! im thier biggest fan!! i always think that

I hope the Jets draft Young which will most likely not happen. Ferguson would be nice but really like Young. Hate Ramsey and Pennington

i think daunte is a good fit for miami, because all the defenses will respect miami's running game already, with the ricky williams-ronnie brown combination eating up defenses late last year in november and december. i don't know how much mobility daunte will have, after tearing 3 ligaments . ouch !

but like the previous said . next year will be chris chambers and randy mcmichael's resurrection year. daunte loved to throw to jeremy wiggins back in minnesota for the posession type of plays, so i expect randy mcmichael to have AT LEAST 80 catches next year. i wouldn't be surprised at all.

Posted by Spartan on Apr-04-2006 05:42:

oh yah I agree Daunte loves the TE.

He made a pro bowler out of Byron Chamberlain.

and what happened to Tony Gonzolaz last year? I know Willie Roaf was hurtin so Tony had to block more than usual... but still. Do you guys think the fact that LJ is in the backfield instead of Priest will help or hurt his numbers?

And how about that Chris Cooley? Woot stud in the making. Having Moss and Lloyd will definitely help his numbers next year.

Posted by Spartan on Apr-04-2006 05:47:

oh yah and speaking of the Redskins,

I've read a few scouts reports saying it was stupid for them to give up two middle round picks for Brandon Lloyd, saying that he is a flakey receiver at best. In fact, I have yet to see anything positive written about the trade anywhere outside of DC.

I personally thought the trade was an amazing move for DC, and that Brandon Lloyd will be a star in this league.

Am I wrong?

brandon lloyd = ashlie lelie , tim dwight , alvin harper , rod gardner , kevin curtis , etc .....

the group that is going to rack up those 30 to 40 yard pass plays by sprinting upfield with a seam pattern. that's about it . he is a quick receiver , but i hope the skins don't consider him a possession receiver.

I think Lloyd is more versitale than his numbers from SF would lead you to believe. He was always double and even triple teamed there as he was their only threat once Eric Johnson got hurt. And I'm not counting Arnaz Battle or whatever his name is as quality second receiver. Plus he's never had a veteran QB throwing to him before. To put up the numbers he did in SF I believe was a major accomplishment that very few receivers could do.

I don't really have anything to base this on though , just one of my gut feelings after watching him make so many spectacular plays last season. If I'm wrong you still have to admit he's more fun to watch than those other guys.

I think Cooley will be enough of a threat for the shorter passes so Lloyd can get open for the bigger gains, especially if Moss draws a double team.

but do you really think joe gibbs is going to implement "a passing attack" with lloyd, thrash, and moss in the lineup ? i bet you joe gibbs' racecar team has travelled farther than combined passing yards of all joe gibb's football teams (including the joe theismann era).

they still have portis, so they still are going to go strictly run , run, run, pass, run, run, run, maybe pass, run, play action run, run, draw, run, maybe a pass, quarterback sneak for the heck of it. i think joe gibbs will invent the new term "play action run" . a version of play action pass where you look like you are going to pass , but you are going to run it.

who's afraid of the texans next year ? indy without edge and some key defensive players. the jaguars being the jaguars. and the titans in a rebuilding phase. i wouldn't be surprised if the texans win the division next year, especially if they draft smart.

houston texans afc south champions 2006 or bust !!!!

The texans will be better,Moulds will take some heat off Andre Johnson, all they need now is a line that can keep Carr upright for 6-8 seconds.Hopefully they pass on Reggie Bush and draft D'brickshaw Ferguson

well they do need more than ferguson to keep david carr from leaning farther when standing straight than the leaning tower of pisa. , especially with that overpaid offensive line. unbelieveable they are in the top 5 in paid offensive lineman. i guess money doesn't get you protection (according to david carr.)

I agree. But as soon as those safeties do come up to stop the run, the skins now have the weapons to make them wish they hadn't.

and NOOOO way the texans steal the division from Indy! Noooo way. Don't forget Indy did almost go 16-0 last season, and lost in the playoffs to the superbowl champs on a last second miracle tackle by Roethlisberger. Rhodes has always filled in for edge without them missing a beat, and I believe he will have a solid year.

I don't think Indy will be as good, thats almost impossible, but if they lose to anybody in that division it'll be the jags. Houston simply can't match talent for talent.
