Another thing we haven't seen in a while - at 6-1, Mets with the best record in the majors!

Are you surprised? Im not... they have a great team, and Ive said it a bunch of times before the season started that they could win the pennant.

I'm not surprised... because it is only the first week! The Phillies are 1 - 6, which puts them in last place in the East. And I'm not surprised... because it is only the first week! Talk to me in a month about records and what not. Right now, it means nothing to me. I mean... Ichiro is batting less than .200. You think he'll keep that up all year? Doubt it.

The Mets starting pitching IS NOT as good as it has been. Every starter has gone 6+ innings so far. Which has enabled Willie to just go Heilman > Sanchez > Wagner.

It also helped the Mets that beginning of their schedule was rather weak, with the Nats, then Marlins (with at least 11 rookies), then Nats again

Their first real test will be next week, against the Braves

Youre stuck in the 90's man, the Braves arent as big a threat as they used to be, the hitting is still pretty decent, but the pitching is no where near what it was.

I used to love watching Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz, Millwood, Wohlers, and Neagle dominate games on TBS

Yes, thats because they get alot of competition from the other teams in their division right? They wont win the division this year, I think the Mets and Phillies (when they get their act together) will be ahead of them.

my quick review of ballparks I finally got to visit this week

Angels Stadium: a nicer place to watch a game than I expected. Good sightlines, lots of shops, lots of activities to do besides the game. Nice walkway by the left field (ala citizens bank park). I sat behind home plate in the upper deck, and the amtrak trains that passed by behind on higher elevasiton definitely added to view. The only thing annoying were the thunder stix rattling during the game. Other that that, I recommend going to a game here

Dodger Stadium: a classic. The view past the outfield seeing Chavez Raviene and the palm trees is just spectaular. I like the "Think Blue" sign that is in left field. As for stuff to do besides the game, not much here. It's just a pure baseball atmosphere. However, the countless number of beachballs flying throughout the stadium really got annoying. And of course, traffic really sucks after the game. Despite the small annoyances, I definitely recommend going to a game in this classic ballpark

Lol, Mo blows the save tonight... Mo is really starting to let me down, hes just not the same Mo anymore - although he does have the best split fastball, alot of batters are becoming used to it and alot more of them are starting to get their bat on it.

That was last years numbers. Add that to the 18 BBs and you get a grand total of a... 0.87 WHIP! A 1.38 ERA! A .177 OAVG! All that is good for... THE BEST YEAR OF HIS CAREER!

Didn't Mariano blow two consecutive saves to start the season last year? And against the Red Sox, no less?

And, if it took batters 10 years to become used to his cutter, which is the only pitch he throws, I'd say that's pretty damn good. I doubt Francisco Rodriguez makes it that long just throwing his slider.

It's just his 2nd save opportunity (and 3rd appearance) of the year

The Twins also got some breaks there. Castillo had a check-swing that could've been ruled a 3rd strike. After that, he barely got his bat on the ball for what became a swinging bunt, and barely beat out Rivera's throw to 1B.
Also, Matsui made the mistake of throwing to 3rd, and allowing the winning run into scoring position.
Morneau's game-winning hit wasn't all that hard, but got just past Cano.

Did you not read? I said "more players are getting their bats on the balls" ... meaning, hes not striking people out as regularly as he used to.

In 810 career innings, he has 731 SOs. His highest K/9 ratio was in 1996 when it was 10.87. After that, he only eclipsed a 9.00 twice, in 2001 and 2005. He's striking people out like he usually does.
