I wish Sonic all the success in the world...
The one thing that seems off to me, and that is off quite frequently in clubs is that if you have bought a ticket you shouldn't wait in line.
At Sonic I predict there will be..
a)the regular line
b)the guestlist line
c)the "line where people who know the bouncers don't actually wait in line but just come up and get right in" line
It seems ridiculous to me to ask people to buy advance tickets when buying them doesn't even give them the pleasure of avoiding the lineup non-sense, as mentioned above.
I'll pay $4.28 any day of the week, for residents night or headliners if it means i don't have to put up with lineup bullshit.
That goes for any club, not just Sonic.
But if they are the first one to figure out a way to get advance ticket holdlers in first, I'll be first in line.
Its disappointing that ticketbreak is just another way for GEM to make more $$ on the tickets while while creating much more inconvenience for the customer.
Whats funny is that both "companies" had their offices at the EXACT SAME ADDRESS in 04/05 (now the address for GEM is listed as 270 Spadina lol). So paying $5 for the privilege of printing out a piece of paper is outrageous and just a money grab by the people involved with the clubs promotion. Obviously the customers dont care whether they pay 30 or 35 but its a symbol of greed that were not used to seeing in the afterhours scene...I think this was something that separated this scene from more mainstream EDM clubs since we arent used to dealing with this kind of crap. Because of that I can understand why people would be upset even if they still intend to go.

Toronto is the only place ive ever been to with welfare VIP and guest lists.
Anywhere else, being on the guest list means you can get in (and pay full price) as opposed to everyone off the street NOT being able to get in.
Or, it means that you are about to drop $1000 in the place and the club is treating you accordingly.
Toronto's version of the guest list is akin to expecting to get a first class airline seat at half off the price you'd pay in coach.

^ I think the opening (or re-opening rather) of the Spadina venue has given us an outlet to vent on all the problems and woes of clubland.
Don't take it so personally Sonic! We love you, and we want you to be perfect.
Again, from a management/ ownership point of view, these criticisms must be awesome. I'm sure they think we're all whiny assholes, but fuck there are some awesome points made in this thread.
Clubland, youre welcome! (fuck)

He stuck the JB record on the turntable and turned the power off and used his finger to keep perfect rotation on it for a long long time doing brief accelerations to change the vocal pitch to blend it with the existing track that was playing (a MAW track by India I think), then he just dropped the pitch corrected vocals into the MAW track every few bars for a long time and then ended with the JB record slowly coming to a stop on the table . It was amazing to hear - sounded like a studio remix. |

| David is a hell of a DJ and producer, that's all I know. Some of his remixes are my favorite records of all time: the De La Soul - Saturday remixes are a perfect example of a track that was made a zillion times better by the remix, yet somehow still keeps the spirit of the original track intact. I have watched and heard him DJ many times, some good, some bad, but mostly good. The guy is talented, has been around a long time, and is IMO is one of the top 5 DJs in the world since the invention of the 1200. |
