I had no beef with the washroom,
i only used the downtsiars one
the old boa washrooms are still here, and i did see a big lineup at one point.

Really impressed me

Gotta say that really sux for all those who got the shaft,

FIRST & LAST ON THE DANCE FLOOR!

What an amazing night! Congratulations to all that have put so much time and work into Sonic! I was one of the first handfull of people to be let into the club. The "fairy godfather" (name on TA) and I were the first 2 on the dance floor. People started arriving slowly into the club. After an hour went by we asked ourselfs, "where the heck are our friends?" We went down stairs to see what was happening, and OMG so many people were jammed inline and in coatcheck. I don't think/hopes not this problem continues. My friends were inline for nearly 2 hours. After getting in, the place was packed! Once people got in there and started dancing, everyone was in more of a better mood. Morales played until about 1-1:30am and then Nevio came back on and played until...get this, 3:10PM!! I was THE FIRST AND LAST person on the dance floor! That is INSANE! Again, Congrats to all! Enjoy the pics and video of the packed crowed!

Any major issues?

That is my biggest worry about that place.

I didn't find the washrooms to be a problem... although I was only at sonic at 7 am, when the crowd was dying down... Both upstairs and downstairs facilities were open all night... And clean, from what I found...

If you have a problem with skin, be it shirtless men or half-naked women, GO TO A MAINSTREAM CLUB.

Music aside, the afterhour club scene is supposed to be dark & dirty, hot & sweaty, diverse & downright raw... these are the fundamental ingredients which make the entire underground experience what it is... and if you can't appreciate this, then you have no business being at Sonic.

If you like it neat, tidy & sterile, go someplace else... there's plenty of places to choose from. Toronto has waited long enough for a club like this... it would be a shame to start imposing all these haughty rules & turn into another pretentious club like all the rest.

common courtesy is the key...you can be a dark and dirty underground clubber and still wear a shirt.....heck....a nice thin wife beater would be fine.

I get it...you got muscles...good for you....now put a shirt on.

It has nothing to do with showing off your muscles, but instead, has more to do with getting in touch with your rudimentary self... the very essence of your being... the very depth of your soul.

Obviously, you don't get it... and I suppose unless you've experienced it first hand, you wouldn't know what the heck I'm talking about.

I just hope there are enough people in this city that do understand or I fear the beauty of this concept will be short-lived. (Thankfully Montreal is only short ride away...)

Posted by kaniz on May-01-2006 15:16:

The homos love to run shirtless, I dont think I've ever been to an event where there has been a large number of gay people/gay-targeted, in which their shirts remained on.

Fly in Toronto, or Stereo in Montreal, or Parking on their gay night -- shirtless sweaty gay men is the norm. If Sonic is really going to push for the gay-friendly-mixed-crowd Vibe like at Stereo, then forcing people to put on shirts isnt going to be the way to go about it.

and if bumping into a shirtless sweaty guy is enough to ruin your night, then maybe you shouldnt be going to clubs like Sonic - just a thought.

Hell, David was shirtless, why should he expect the people at his club to keep their shirts on if he isnt doing the same?

I'm not a fan of running shirtless myself (and not like I have the body for it even if I was a fan), but other people being shirtless doesnt bother me at all.

Posted by Patius on May-01-2006 15:19:

I'm sorry to say this, but after reading some many people complaining about shirtless men dancing around you, I'm beginning to wonder if Toronto is ready for a club like this one.

I would hope that a world class city, like Toronto, would have enough open minded people to go to a place, where a real underground vibe will take place. Not sure if this is news for you, but if you want a good party, you need gay people, and if you don't like them, someone said it before me, go to another place where you won't be touching shoulder with them.

again, this stuff is all new for me, I'm from Montreal, a Stereohead here, and our complains are usually if the DJ gave his/her best or not. Yes, we do get mad when we are left out for too long in the line, specially in the winter, but hey, that happens.

anyway, very interesting to hear what Toronto, or I should say, this forum is talking about this new place. I hope I have the chance to check it out soon.

Amen.

This is exactly the way I feel to.

I have no issues with ppl running aroud shirtless. Its adds to the vibe, the uniqueness of the after-hours clubbing experience - it does not take away from it IMHO. Its fun to do every once in a while, and I can by no means be considered to be a person showing off my "physique", unless its my beer belly.

I still feel that for a club to have that extra touch of class
shirts should ALWAYS be mandatory

what courtesy.. its an afterhours. everyone of them is out of space..

not like anythings gonna happen...

i'm tiny.. they rub their arms against my face..
BUT..
i always look for a nice spot. where i can go wild..
i dont ruin my nights by letting those things come on my way ..

and yes lars.. u shud of waited 5 more minutes..
i was sad to see u and jose leave..

I've got to agree with the other points being made here. Sonic is afterhours, and not really about class.

if you want shirts on and class, go to TIL on fridays. it serves that market entirely, effectively, and well.

Eh i completely understand ur points, and shirtless doods dont even bother me.....Just my opinion in general

Posted by Kendo on May-01-2006 15:34:

"By some magic formula the club was divided into 2. The dancefloor belonged to the gay scene and the back of the club to the straight scene. At first I did not notice, until a point when I was completely surrounded by half naked sweaty men."

Stereo is like that too, except the divide is the left and right sides of the dance floor.

Also, about the wait, I think every afterhours in Montreal that have had a grand opening have had terrible issues, least Aria and Circus when they opened. I wasn't partying when Sona and Stereo opened.

Also, on certain nights at Stereo, specifically a couple years ago for almost every Morales nights the line would be long, hours long, sometimes in the freezing cold or rain. Another thing is Stereo itself after years of operation have sometimes opened after the designated opening time, you guys whine too much.

people being shirtless isn't going to ruin my night at all...I am use to it and in reality its not a big deal (more of an inside joke with the whole sweaty shirtless thing)

I'm more affraid of walking into a club one night and everyone is dancing naked by a fire
