WTF? I wear contact lenses and they irritate my eyes sometimes...they irritate everyone's eyes who wear them sometimes due to dust etc. getting in them. I usually take them out, wet them, and put them back in...now what the hell am I supposed to do? Or what if I want to go to sleep....you're not supposed to wear them if you sleep...and if you do they get drive...thus need contact fluid to wet them again!

they should just do what Guv does...make you squirt some in your eye before allowing you to hold onto it

what a shitshow that airport was though.

even pearson is pretty intense right now with security measures.

I'm shocked they still let you fly out POST security check. They must have had these assholes by the balls for weeks ahead of time to have confidence enough in letting your flight take off.

So you were aware of the shit happening before you left?

ps. welcome home (again)

Posted by slingshot on Aug-10-2006 20:50:

We were aware that there were heightened security measures but we were completely oblivious to the reasons for them. When we checked in everything was still hush hush. I did not find out exactly what was happening until I was sitting in my gate for like 2 hours watching BBC news and all the press conferences and what not.

Kind of freaky when you realize that you are right in the middle of the mess.

(thank god we didn't stay an extra day in ibiza)

Edit: Shelley is supposed to be flying in to gatwick this afternoon so everybody cross your fingers in hopes that everything works out for her.

I just passed through domestic security at Pearson and am currently enjoying a bloody caesar near my gate.

Check in and baggage check was no problem and only took 5 minutes (thanks to web check-in). If I hadn't had used web check-in I would have easily waited 30 to 40 minutes in the check in line.

The security (x-ray/metal detector) line was 40 minutes in length. I've done A LOT of domestic and US travel and to wait 40 minutes to pass through @ Pearson at 3:30 PM on a Thursday is unheard of.

The actual pass through security was very thorough. Not anal probe thorough - but they emptied my briefcase and swabbed my laptop. Despite the "no liquid" rule I was able to smuggle through some eye drops on my person.

I hope all is well! my thoughts are with all that Are travelling.

Stay home and stay safe!

On the topic of safety:

To ensure maximum safety with my Terminal 1 experience...

Not only did I choose to drink cocktails near my gate but I also chose a seat at the bar next to the automatic defibrillator.

Safety #1.

Somewhat.

I had mentally prepared for such while waiting (anticipating such an outcome), but alas I was spared.

Just to add some light comedy to this thread...Cale just called me at work and I told him what had been happening in regards to Heathrow and not knowing the whereabouts of Ryan, Fuad or MK's parents. I don't know how...but somehow he misunderstood me and thought that Ryan and Fuad had uncovered the terrorist attack plan a la Scooby Doo Mystery Team

Seriously, she way she worded it was like "Ryan and Fuad were at London Heathrow Airport and they foiled some terrorist plot to bomb 10 planes or something!"

Anybody, from that, would deduce that "they" meant "Ryan and Fuad." All I could picture was those 2 guys in a big green van driving around Heathrow's runways setting traps for terrorists.

Wow, what happened this morning is really terrible, i hope all TAs coming from London or living there are okay.

On a sidenote, i have the TV on Glenn Beck (which i believe is CNN PrimeTime or something), and the guy is a PSYCHO!! Talking about how America is now in WW3, everything is connected, Iran is the "head of the snake" (in other words, Iran is behind everything), saying London was "just the beginning", how all terrorrists are arabs... blah blah. Like HOLY SHIT! LOL Talk about mass war propaganda Oh and apparently Lebannon is behind all this too. This guy is fucking insane.

glad to hear you made it home safe and sound Ryan. And yes, has anyone heard from Miss Shelley at all? I knew her flight was leaving today to go back. But I guess if you look at it this way if her flight was cancelled she isn't stuck in an unlucky spot. She gets another night of partying in Ibiza..

Posted by Kytracid on Aug-11-2006 00:39:

WOW. I feel like i just dodged a bullet when i read that news. I arrived in Toronto on the 9th (Tuesday)...a day BEFORE the plot was uncovered, via London Heathrow.

Good to be back in Toronto...but it's left a bittersweet taste, hearing about those still stuck in London. Shitty way to end the holidays that is. Hopefully everyone will be able to get back home safely though, which is ultimately all that matters.

Posted by Endlesswave on Aug-11-2006 02:23:

Glad to hear most people coming back are ok and home safe.

Flying through the US is going to be interesting considering I have to bring all my stuff back from Taiwan to my place in Canada.

Posted by Surreal JRS on Aug-11-2006 04:18:

Quite the troubled times we live in.

MK I hope your anxieties are subsiding, and I'm pleased to hear Ryan is back home safe.

Posted by 4-play on Aug-11-2006 07:10:

Got to Dubai safely yesterday, albeit 4 hours late.

Thank god for in-flight entertainment. We were not allowed to take anything, other than wallets and travel documents.

The biggest logistical problem was to get everyone in time to the gate, thus all the delays.

But yes, what the fuck is this world coming too. Cannot fucking do shit without watching over your shoulder. Where are the good old days?

Going back to London as planned seems it worked out perfect, eh Ryan?

Posted by FunkyCrew on Aug-11-2006 08:38:

yay glad to hear everyone's flying O'K

good luck still to the ones flying out

Posted by arek on Aug-11-2006 13:55:

is this is going to stop? i don't think so. it'll just get worse.

security measures will only hold out for so long before a true attack takes place.
