Lay off bashing Vicci, Jay.
Come on, didn't you read what he wrote? All the answers are there. If you keep bashing new promoters they'll say fuck it and book rock concerts instead. You guys gotta understand that Vicci and his company are a perfect example of someone who is trying to BETTER dance music in Montreal.
And what do you do?
You bitch and discourage them. Vicci, and other new promoters, are the future of Montreal AND AN EXTRA CHANCE OF GETTING TO SEE YOUR FAVORITE DJ!!!!!
Think about it...
so back to julius....
no one could have gone up to him and explained the situation....and asked him to play the way that mix was, that you liked? Instead of telling him to just stop....making everyone look like asses

MC Mario wanted him off. :/
I don't think Julius playing like how his mix was would have changed anything. Vicci you can't use that as part of your defense because its not true.
and realize every shit promoter makes it harder for the next guy who wants to come along.
Marcus i dont know what happened to you, but you seem to have ingested a
massive dose of the stupids lately.
Pacha refused the flyer because faithfull was never a resident(ask taha). If he was the club would not have objected as its just part of the artists bio.
There are already more promoters and organizers in this town than you would think. If you actually checked out an event without a supastar once in awhile you would see this.
As far for the comment about famous dj's, the culture has gotten way out of hand...put the dj on a pedastal and made them unaffordable to anyone that wants to book thme. The scene here is drying up because simply it has been abused and reused for too long.
Ive spoken to both Vlad and Julius and heard more or less the samish story, with a few exceptions.
Vlad is my buddy, Julius is my buddy, they are both reasonable people and by the end of the day I think they'll be settling this like men either face to face or over the phone.
We were all dissapointed with the result of Julius' first gig, there will be more, he's a very talented DJ.
We were all also dissapointed to see an empty room in 1234, there will be other parties to throw in there Vlad, you're a businessman.

hehe at least some of us had fun lol.... you guys should come for the 20th al unveil the details soon
So Dj Vicci, is the concept still on?
thinking about it ... al let you guys know
There was a ridiculous amount of people outside the club at 10:15pm...All of them looking like very ridiculous typical late highschool/early CEGEP students...Most of which were Italian, all pulling up in their daddy's Benzs and Beamers...I immediately knew my patience was gonna be severly pushed to its limits inside...Which it was...
Some random ass guy, looking all macho and assetive in his leather bomber jacket (he looked like 1 of the fkn Gotti sons
, acting like he KNOWS he's gonna fuck me by 4am that night, sits down next to me and starts pouring on the bullshit...You are so pretty, you have a nice ass, oops, I mean smile...BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I immediately thought to myself, THISSSSS is why I HATE 10PM-3AM clubs...Cuz of people like YOU!!! Anyways, he ends up asking me where he should go after 3am to hear hip hop. I'm like, "Hip hop sucks but you can go to Circus or Aria, those are afterhours and they have hip hop rooms." He's like okay cool, do you wanna come? I'm like, "I JUST said hip hop sucks and you still ask me this?" LOSER...Then he continues to ask me for directions, if I want a drink, and finally, he's like Ummmmmmmmmmmm I need some drugs too. Oh by the way, he was from Toronto. I'm like what the FUCK don't you understand, I haven't wanted to talk to you this WHOLE time, fuck off. He went away and Jesse was laughing his ass off at me
JUUUUUUULLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Wow, what a bad ending to a poorly arranged night. Vlad, you knew what he was gonna play. It was up to you to recommend him, which you did. It was up to you to put a house DJ in the normally hip hop room while the resident House DJ Dave Gatler who packs every Friday night is in the mainroom pumping exactly what MC Mario wants him to play, not what Dave Gatler wants to play himself...You heard Julius mix live, you heard his recorded sets and you still believed it was gonna be a killer night by booking him.
All I saw and heard was Julius remaining true to his sound, with modifications here and there...Playing "Tell Me Why" is pretty commercial. But anyways, this is what I saw: Standing next to Julius' set-up, a sound technician unplugged a wire from his mixer and then I heard Sean Paul's voice
I'm not too sure if Julius knew what was happening EXACTLY at that point.
Anyways, all the TAs left and chilled outside (except for Tag and Allied), contemplating what to do until afterhours...We all ended up going to SEAN WALSH'S place and vented out about the night to each other...A big thank you, Sean!!! for accomadating us all
...that rhum & coke @ your place was just too strong for me to finish
...
Hello to: Alex, Jesse, HakiSaki, Maher, Enjoy, Sean & Co., Julius & Co., Max, Tag, Allied, ummmm...Malek, Marcus007 & Co., I think that's it, sorry if you were forgotten.
Enjoy and I left Sean's place at approx. 2:20am and headed to Aria for some real fun
...All in all, a major downer (especially when I saw Julius getting yelled at/spoken to very firmly to by Vlad and MC Mario, fkn pissoff of a night...I feel the worst for Julius, sweetheart...It's so easy for me to say cuz in your position, I'd have cried so much standing behind those decks

...You were strong, you ARE strong and we all know that your stength is music, so don't stop. I'll kill you and steal your G5 if you do
Oh and I'm SUPER pissed @ the following people: Marcus007, for buying 1 drink in Julius' room, then staying in the main room for the rest of the night. Moevalith and Karl_24 for simply not showing up...not cool, guys, come on!
The rest of my night (post 1234) was sick tho
First of all, I want to thank everyone who came out to support this event, you all know who you are and you all know how much it meant to me to be surrounded by the people I love on this night.
Now that I have had a bit of time to cool down and get over the matter, I feel comfortable in giving you my take on what happened.
Now when I was setting up my gear, the sound tech brought my attention to the fact that the rooms mixer had only 3 working line inputs. This presented me with a huge problem as my ableton set was created around the idea of having 4 usable channels. Now this might not sound like a big deal, but I assure you when we are talking about this program, it fucks everything up. I had to scrap my entire midi control setup and reprogram everything from scratch on the spot while being pressured to start. Had I known that I had the option to delay a bit I would have taken it, but I didnt so I gritted my teeth and started. Looking back, this was a mistake and I take responsibility for it but had I been presented with another option I would have taken it. As for having other people around to correct the problem, there were only two people in that building who knew the intricacies of Ableton, me and Maher. Since I programmed the set and all the controls Maher would have been in the dark anyhow had I asked for his help, and the sound tech at the start of the night asked me if my iMac was a PC so you can see how helpful he was.
When I started playing, I had just started the long task of reprogramming everything. The music that was being played was music that under normal circumstances I WOULD NOT HAVE PLAYED but my full attention was on fixing the problem. The way I saw it was, concentrate on fixing my set while people are just coming into the club so I can have full control and be at my best later in the night when more people are inside.
I understand now that, had this not occurred, and I would have been able to concentrate my full attention on a suitable warm up, the people that checked the room out at the start of the night would have probably stayed, changing the outcome of the evening.
It took me over and hour and a bit to regain full control of Ableton but quite obviously, by then, it was too late.
At this point, at the request of Vlad, I started playing commercial tunes to try and salvage the room but to no avail, Vlad is right, the damage was done.
The only people in the room were TAs and the malignant hip hop crowd who didnt hesitate to come after every fucking tune and ask me to play salsa or raggay.
At this point I knew it was over, I was not playing what I enjoyed and I was being unfaithful to my style. I felt like I was gonna puke and I actually wanted the night to end because I was ashamed of not being in control of the music anymore.
Then Mario showed up with Vlad and told me I had the stop. I packed up me gear and he switched the music over to Hip Hop, immediately like 10 teeny bopper 16 year olds started grinding each other, it was pathetic.
At this point I didnt want to talk to anyone, I just wanted to get the fuck out of there and we did.
Vlad pulled me aside for a quick chat where the conclusion of which, was that we would talk about it another day.
Then something happened that I did not expect, when I was out of the club and out of his hair (ie: his problem had been fixed) Mario came up to me and told me it was ok, that it was not my fault, its just that my sound was not the appropriate one for that room and that there were no hard feeling. We shook hands and I left.
Now I understand that a lot of people are pissed off about what happened and are bashing him but I have no contempt for him, he could have handled the situation way different, but he chose to be a gentleman about it. As Vlad has pointed out, he is a business man who is concerned about profit and I respect that.
After this whole mess, we all headed to Seans place to have a little shin dig, which was much appreciated. About two hours later, my party decided we best head back to the west island.
The last days you havent heard much from me as I took this whole thing hard, those who know me know that I need my time and space to get over things or I run my mouth off and say things I dont mean.
Now I just want to put this all behind me and take with me the very valuable lessons I have learned. I dont intend to ever go back to 1234 because it is a crowd that I just cannot relate to, and I say that with no bad feelings towards Mc Mario or to Vlad and Coco.
I do however think that had you put James Holden himself in there and not told anyone about it, similar results would have ensued.
I dont know where Vlad and I stand yet, as I have not been in touch with him to date but I am unsure if we will be able to work together again as it is apparent to me we have very different views and goals. Hopefully we can work through this and remain friends.
Il finish off by saying once again thank you to everyone who was there for me when I needed them, I dont know what I would have done had you guys not been around to cheer me up.
Have a good one guys and hopefully this has shed a bit more light on the situation.

Oh and props to Maher for shaving.
And shame on Vlad promising all TAs free drinks if we were there early. I didnt get one free drink, so i had to rely on Sean to get me drunk, and myself.
Sorry to hear about this jules.
Know that all djs get the wrong gigs at first, without them we'd not know improvement and direction.
Don't get discouraged though, u've got far too much potential!!

| Originally posted by Marcus007 Is that supposed to be a joke? What kind of fucking lame ass insult is that? Do you want me to come on TA and tell everyone what you said about Julius? I made it out for the night. I dragged out six other people promising them a good night cuz my friend was spinning. When I arrived with my friends I could already see Julius and Mario sparing off and didn't want to add an extra thought to Julius. He didn't need another person coming up and saying hi to him when he's being kicked off the deck. I kind of take offense to everyone who thinks I'm cheap for "buying one drink and partying in the main room." I made it out from the west island with six people JUST to see Julius spin. DO I give a shit about Dave Gatler? No. I heard him last week, he's going to play exactly the same. I came for Julius and when I saw that shit was hitting the fan I didn't want to be around. It was extremely awkward. Julius knows that I believe in his craft. Vicci said it himself, it wasn't the right venue for a DJ of that style. It's nothing personal, they just overlooked the venue/crowd. For real man, TA is going down the shithole. I don't know what it is but around this time last year nothing was like this. Props to Sean (wish we couldve spoken longer , Erika, Hakim (bro nice to see you , my crew, Greg for being a fucking superstar (welcome to ta bro, it's nice to have some new blood , Jesse, Brenden (lol...), Alex and everyone else. |
last year was better because there was more fighting.
i cant believe i miss krinker
