hehehe, imagine if this killer set became the pivotal reason Lee gets a crowded, crowded shitshow like Sander K at This is London. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Fuck, who needs Z103.5 or a commerical hot track for promotion. All we need is our reliable leakers to turn the good into the bad!

Just mark my words...Come 1 year from now because of this set his popularity will have skyrocketed 10 folds or more. Lee will inadvertently thank you guys for his FOOTWORK RISE TO FAME 100000000000000000XXXXXXXXXXX, but hopefully he'll steer clear of being too commercial. Ah, the price of fame...

edit: bah, I'm just bitching about TiL being his next venue. I'm very happy the set was shared over the internet. Haha, I still want to get my hands on the Comfort Zone set even more. Not because it was even a remotely better set, but only because it's a HOT, HOT COMMODITY!!!

From Burridge's Diary.

quote:
A friend of Andy's who goes by the name of Sameer (and records under the guise of 'Pocket') very kindly let us use his studio while we worked with him on the first track.

I had a concept in mind that was born from endless nights of DJing after people who seem to think it's okay to bang the crap out of it and play their biggest tracks as a
warm-up set and then somehow appease
themselves by playing a really crappy
slower deeper B-side as their last track
(which, by the way, always makes it
look like it's my first record!)

The idea of the track is this: the first two minutes would be a banging 134 BPM groove that stops, has a hard think about itself and then becomes a phat appropriate 128 BPM first record.
'Fuck You and Your Shitty Warm-up Set'
I have entitled it 'Fuck You and Your Shitty Warm-up Set' and it's coming soon to a turntable near you DJ Shithead.

Funny on so many levels.

lol, dude...this is lee burridge we're talking about here. not sander k.

read his whole diary that jennypie posted a couple pages back to get an idea of what this guy is like. his popularity will definately increase, but once the bandwagoners jump to the next trend it'll be all back to normal. burridge would never change his sound to please the peasents

Was definitely gonna read that when I have some time. However, admittedly the "dark side" can consume just about anybody. Being seduced isn't too hard especialy in the industry...

Yup. Perfect example of this was that morning at the Zone.

Glad Lee didn't sell his soul to the devil, but he was already in Hell. Oops, he was in church!

This set just solidified the number 1 spot Burridge has in my mind, and it's great to finally see him get the recognition he deserves. I dont' think I've ever seen this many positive reviews on a Burridge set on TOTA.

As for [email protected] doubt I wanna go, now that I've seen the whole lineup. TiL isn't a club for him, the crowd and vibe just won't go with his sound, same goes for the other DJ's playing that night.

For those of considering it, I say wait for him to comeback to Footwork.

what is wrong with the opening djs at TIL? the reason why manzone&strong open for many of the headliners is because manzone&strong are, in fact, the residents at this is london. does mark oliver open for pretty much all headliners in the guv? yes.

now, if you say its because of the style that manzone&strong play then its because you only have seen them play at one (or two) venues. i have seen joe and fab play in a million different places. sure, most of the time they get booked to play what they are known for but thats not the only way they know how to play.

take the loco dice event for example. people had their doubts about m&s opening for loco. joe's style for the opening set was a dramatic change from his usual. loco dice was dancing up a storm during joe's set and even thanked joe for an amazing set. a perfect example to the versatility of manzone&strong's sound would have to be last night at republik. there was a chinese singer from hong kong performing and the organizers requested to have m&s play at the event. that had to be the first time that i heard m&s play techno and happy hardcore. prior to the stage performance, nobody was dancing. it didnt take long for m&s to figure out what the crowd wanted and thats what they delivered all night long.

dont knock them until you have seen them play in enough different events and know what they are capable of.

Mazone and Wrong opening for Misstress Barbara while Greg Gow gets the shaft is pretty ridiculous.

Chinamon, Talal and Jose have a very very long list of "resident" DJs just as they do at guv and had at system, which they pick and choose from based on the headlining DJ. I can't remember a time when Greg Gow did not open or close for Barbara. That's half the reason I'm not going - odds are, I'm going to hear more of the opening act anyways since I can't make it a late night on Friday.

edit: Not only that, but people like myself like to see some of Toronto's better known techno DJs get some recognition by being one of the few TECHNO DJs in the city that gets booked within the guvernment circle. When Greg Gow gets passed off for M&S to open for someone like Barbara, it's disappointing. Sure they are versatile DJs, but that is the point...they aren't techno DJs.

*Your* download limit has been reached. You can only D/L one (or is it 2?) sets at a time from megaupload.

Posted by PressPLay on Nov-06-2006 20:26:

haha, I remember first hearing Manzone and Strong a few years back. My first time was at Comfort Zone and then it was the Drink. They definitely switch gears at the many different venues. Even remember some of their style changed at Dragonfly in Niagara Falls.

edit: more or less the crowds at TiL and Dragonfly are relatively the same. Only reason I prefer Dragonfly is because of the casino there!!!

thats where you are wrong.
manzone&strong are residents at this is london. those other djs are not.

just like mark oliver is resident in guv, manzone&strong are resident in the drink, george williams is resident in the acid lounge, 4korners is resident in d'luxe lounge and aristotle is resident in the orange room. could jose and talal book other djs to play those rooms? sure they can but those are the residents so they have priority/seniority. tht is the reason why clubs have resident djs.

I tend to agree with Jon on this.
(having gone to a lot of crappy venues and driven very very far to hear Misstress Barbara over the last 5 years.)

Posted by milos on Nov-06-2006 20:31:

chinamon, with your logic i could open up for loco dice. just plz excuse me first while i log into beatport and download all the tracks from the minimal section.

There are residents that generally play quite often, and then there are special residents like Greg that are brought in to open for DJs such as Carl Cox, Misstress Barbara...generally the techno DJs.

at least someone here understands what i mean.
i went with fab for a bit this morning to see him play at the zone. he definitely changes his style. ive never seen fab play hard like that. it was quite amazing.

the reason why i think people talk so much shit about m&s here on TA is because most of the people here are not familiar with them and have not (and will not) give them a chance.

sure, if you know what you are doing.

it doesnt matter who gets booked to open if the opening dj is capable to change their style to suit the headliner. loco dice was very pleased with joe manzone's opening set so why cant you be?

That's ironic, considering that you're debating and might not be going to see her friday...

Where are you drawing this conclusion from?...

Wouldn't it be so much simpler and make more sense, to have a deejay that already suits the headliner to open for them? Instead of 'imitating' and 'trying' to change sound...Just because Joe played some similar stuff does not mean he is capable of playing that style...anyone can just pick random minimal tracks and play them...as Milos stated.

Your gripe is with Jose/Talal, and the argument is misguided towards M&S / the scene as it is NOW, and TiL clientele.

Inadvertently, your picture thread was one of the variables to this here. Whether you believe it or not. They are labelled in the way of how some of your pics showcase the people and the events.

Too me, first and foremost M&S will always be those mofo bad ass DJ's that play late at night at Comfort Zone.
