Fred is by far and away too good for this league, he single handedly won us the grand final, archie was just in the right place at the right time

more evidence for my argument that football in australia will always be second rate.

Yeah I agree. Why do they even bother

Posted by 00soups00 on Feb-27-2007 01:55:

what happened to Fred wanting to become an Australian citizen.. I guess the appeal of more money was greater then his apparent 'love for this country'.

Either that or the Media blew that one a little out of proportion

good luck to Fred with his future club, who is keen by the way?

Posted by charlee on Feb-27-2007 02:39:

I think maybe everyone should wait until it's actually confirmed. Paulie C should also get a job at Today Tonight as a rumour mill

Posted by drew k on Feb-27-2007 02:47:

Good point. I remember Paulie called me last year to tell me it was a sure bet that James Hird was about to announce his retirement from AFL at the end of last year. He made an annoucment that night, but not quite that one lol

that is true.

however its not reasonable to compare an office job etc to bonds that you form with your team. these guys spend there lives together, they develop an attachment and love for the jumper they play for etc.

Soccer is just a great example (in most cases) of how little loyalty players have to their teams (until you get into the lower levels of the english leagues). If i played for St Kilda footy club i would never leave the club for extra salary simply because of my love for the club.

That may sound naieve, and i may financially regret it, however thats just how i operate.

Something tells me that Fred isnt hard up for $$$. He just used the Melbourne team to step up to somethign better, which he has done.

Bullshit soups. If you're a professional athlete and you have maybe 5 years (tops sometimes) to set yourself up for life (because it's all you do, you never went to school to study) then money is extremely important. It's completely reasonable to compare it to an office job because it's their profession.

The fact that it's "just how you operate" shows that you're not a professional athlete

(and neither am I because i'd probably do the same for the Kangaroos lol)

Posted by sLiCk_NiCk on Feb-27-2007 13:54:

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Feb-27-2007 21:54:
