In fact, a slightly off mix is the low on the list of things a Dj can do wrong in my mind. Unless they are all off and more that slightly, I'm fine with a couple shifty mixes. |

I don't look down on the DJ, it's just a natural reaction of, "What the fuck, God this is so irritating!" It's made going out a huge pain in the ass for me. |
seems to me like all the trance djs are slowly starting to play more and more house tunes just cause there isnt any new trance anymore or it sucks..
this year was pretty good... at least better than 2005.
some releases i really enjoyed this year
Matthew Adams - Autumn Leaves EP
The Last Atlant - Speechless Poetry EP
Riko - Tokyo (The Last Atlant Remix)
Kaito - Hundred Million Light Years
Hiroshi Watanabe - Genesis
i really didnt pay much attention to trance this year but the one trance track i really liked was
Tillmann Uhrmacher - The Pride in Your Eyes (Midnight Extended Club Mix)

I only went to one trance party the entire year and even then I was just sitting there wondering what the hell was going on - I couldn't recognize any of the tunes and they all just sounded dull and samey. I somehow felt so old and out of place (feeling old at the age of 23... sheesh). As a result, I've mostly been listening to old school rock (Led Zeppelin, Beatles) and some newer (Muse) but not really any EDM. Hell, I've had to resort to playing house in my sets even though I don't particularily like it just because there just hasn't been any decent trance or breaks for me to play. Luckily some proggy breaks stuff has started to emerge again, the nu-skool thing really got old fast. I just don't know where I am musically any more. |
cheesy electro year

in '06, i think i kind of branched out and listened to more types of EDM out there, not just the normal trance I used to. I don't know if this was simply due to the music or just the timing. would i have written the same thing last year abour '05 if it happened to me then? maybe.
but some good releases this year, which i think were better than last year. Funny, i even went to more clubbing events this year too. [thank you Chicago].
anyways, perhaps 06 was better than last year. but i don't know if i would call it a breakthrough year or something that was like a once in a lifetime event.
i dunno. i just go with the flow, and if i like something, i'll roll with it. and that happens year after year.
Quite a few people are saying that they were more open-minded this year as opposed to previous 'trancier' years...
was this a trend caused by a giant mind-zap ray-gun from out of space that suddenly meant we were all more receptive to other styles out there???
Or was it just simply trance was shite and EVERY producer worth their salt (or without a niche left to plug in a very bitterly drab trance scene) moved on to better things in 2006?
Superior taste... or bandwagon junkie?

simple propaganda
I thought 2006 was a poor year for the stuff I liked. Electro and minimal has saturated the market. Although I like select tracks from the genres, as a whole I thik it's been pretty shit.

Prog house, electro house, tech house, minimal, neotrance.
Whatever. It's all the same bandwagon-jumping to me.
