I hear by this holiday season, the blu-ray diode will drop drastically in production costs, resulting in a possible 50% reduction in price of Blu-ray players. Meaning they will drop from about $1000 to around $500. But for now, the PS3 is the best deal in the fucking world. think of it this way...a blu-ray player is $1000, right? The PS3 is $600. so, essentially, sony sold you a blu-ray player for $400 less AND gave you a PS3 for FREE! Oh and a PS2 and a PS1. |

| Originally posted by exstasie yeah, i'm a huge HD nerd lol so i've been doing lots of reading and stuff on other forums about the Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD battle. The PS3 is by far the best BD player. It's the cheapest and there is a general consensus that it is the best as well. Hell, you can get the 20GB PS3 for like $599 or whatever which is a pretty good deal for a BD player. Yeah, the clerk at EB was like, holy crap, this game is $45 cheaper then the buying it new. That the one thing i like about EB is that they have a great selection of used games and you can an EB card for 10% off used games. They also have insurance for like $1.50 or something that guarantees the game will work for like a year. Some good stuff! |

| Originally posted by babyvsrhino I don't have one, but these are my theoretical answers. 1. No, there will be little to no difference in quality to a DVD. That's if it even displays at all, I've read that you need component or hdmi to play blu-ray, and it could play 480i (standard tube resolution) and I've also read that it will downscale to be able to play over the composite cables, but there would be no reason to buy the Blu-Ray discs imo unless you were just building a BD collection for a future purchase of an HDTV. 2. Yes. http://boards.1up.com/zd/board/mess...ading games etc |

I'm not into FPS games on Consoles so I hope there wont be an overkill amount of those type of games as it is on PC
The best game on the ps3 for me at the moment is Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (Yes, I know it is an FPS also but you dont have to be as fast in RPGs so its totally great!)
Also purchased Crash Bandicoot and Gauntlet II today
I really like Resistance very cool game

DA, Oblivion is best described as a FPRPG I suppose. All rpg gameplay from a first person pov.
I love R6: Vegas for pc, and I'd be iffy about picking it up on a console just because I'm far more comfortable for games of that type with a keyboard and mouse.
If this $100 price drop is real, I'm probably gonna grab a ps3 within a month, if not, I'm still gonna pick it up by the end of september for the blu ray deal.
I remember hearing somewhere that Sony might be looking for a modest price cut to the system come Q4 as they say that the PS3 is selling really well this year.
Xbox on the other-hand is having anything but a good year...

| If we would name something as the biggest news of the century, it won't be Nintendo buying Sony and Microsoft. Everything pales in comparison to what we just found. A tragedy it may be, but the heart of evil would laugh at such event. What exactly is this tear jerking news? A PS3 unit just died. You read that right. The Xbox 360 might be suffering a 33% failure rate, but owners of the box are reported to be having the time of their lives. That isn't the case with this young man who desperately tried to save his dying PS3. You must be pretty intrigued now, so we'll get on with it. There's this poster over the Blu-ray.com forums going by the name BluManta. On the post he made, he told the story of his friend who called him after said friend's PS3 "just died for no reason." Our hero in the making asked if any broken games, DVDs, or Blu-rays were used on the unit. Answers were all "no." Finally, BluManta decided to venture over to his friend's place. To his shock that could shake the whole world, the mentioned dead PS3 had duct tapes over the vent. Why you ask? His friend answered, "I am really cautious about my ps3. I really look after it. I don't want dust getting inside it so I covered up the holes to stop dust from getting in." Thus, another console died and it wasn't a 360. Our condolences go to the broken PS3's owner, and salutations to his friend who valiantly attempted to find out what was going on and tell everyone about it. |

personally...
I would buy an nice HDTV before buying a PS3.
Gaming in a nice HDTV makes such a big difference, and not to mention the fact that you can set yourself to watch TV and movies in HD as well!
