The good old day of service and volley is gone.

who in the men's game can even challenge federer right now? no one. it's not federer's fault.

Hm clay is difficult, I too think Federer would have an advantage but 90% is a bit high. As for Sampras being scared, what he said about Federer not having any real challenges is absolutely true; he is so dominant it is boring watching him play in the early rounds of tournaments...not his fault though. I truly respect the guy and his tennis game.

Federer vs. Gonzalez in the final.

Yes, that was what stopped Sampras's streak at Wimbledon.
Sampras won 7 of 8 Wimbledons, so it woulda been 8 straight....

My point was that Sampras was also great and I have confidence he could find a way to beat Federer; Nadal has done it a number of times and if he can do it so can Sampras.

Of all the times Nadal beat him, ALL were on clay except for one, which was on a hardcourt.
Your argument is then not as strong, cause Nadal found a way only once.
So i cant agree with you.

my prediction. federer in 4. the set he loses will be in a tiebreak because he'll feel sorry for gonzalez

Posted by zoric on Jan-26-2007 15:45:

Federer may become historic if he manages to win the game in 3 straight sets because he still hasn't lost a set and the closest someone came was Robredo and Djokovic.

This man is a human machine, I still can't believe how good he actually is.

Gonzalez is pretty good though Interesting player

Gonzalez will be served (pun intended) in 3. Federer might sweep the Grand Slams this year if Nadal continues to slip like he has.

and YES I think Nadal is his only real "challenge" in todays game.

Richard Krajicek beat Sampras in 1996, otherwise he would've had 8 in a row.
Federer stopped Sampras' bid to tie Bjorn Borg's Open Era record of 5 in a row.

I'm with you on this...I think the ladies' final will be interesting to watch but unfortunately I'm going to have to miss it . I won't miss the grunting contest between Maria and Serena though (hoping for a late Saturday re-broadcast)

Posted by partyhopper on Jan-27-2007 03:02:

Maria got pwned.
Quite a dominating performance by Serena.

Posted by SolemnThirsty on Jan-27-2007 04:24:

^Maria got killed.

Posted by eRRaTiK on Jan-27-2007 09:28:

yeh sucked real bad. at least she's world #1

Posted by zoric on Jan-27-2007 10:43:

Strong win by Williams, even though I dislike her most on the Womens Tour.

For all you Serena haters

She whipped Maria's ass and better yet, she's not not even at 100% yet!!!

Aslong as my boy Gonzalez puts up a fight, im happy.

CHI-CHI-CHI!

LE-LE-LE!

VIVA CHILE!!!!

Posted by denys envy on Jan-28-2007 09:41:

looks even so far. i am going to bed after this first set tho. hope federer wins and maybe they'll put him in a league with superspeed six armed aliens... who'll he'll dominate too.

Posted by benjamin on Jan-28-2007 10:46:

go Roger, and win without losing a set

Posted by partyhopper on Jan-28-2007 11:08:

Ho-hum, Federer won the title.
Without losing a set! Gonzalez had a set point in the 1st set, but couldn't convert.
Federer lost hardly any points on his serve in the 2nd and 3rd sets.

Posted by Rodrico on Jan-28-2007 11:19:

Atleast he gave some sort of fight in the 1st set, but afterwards Roger gulped down the rocket sauce and took over the match completely. Oh well, atleast Gonzalez played some really good tennis and hopefully he can get a chance to fight for another Grand Slam sometime soon.

Posted by zoric on Jan-28-2007 12:15:

Didn't see the game, but I'm highly impressed by Roger not losing a set.
