The best part of this season, is the fact that we have four racers at the front of the grid.
It is in fact nice to see McL vs Fer. The two most successful F1 teams, back at the top, and willing to fight.
Hamilton's pass on the two Ferrari's in the first corner was awesome.
His non-move on Massa a few laps later that tricked him into outbraking himself was even better. That's veteran racecraft there.
It's too bad Kimi's motor wasn't 100%. 3rd was a good result for him, regardless of what Massa did. I was surprised Massa couldn't get back to 4th though.
grr, wish I saw the race
Watched the live timing but obviously you don't see these things. The replay was at the same time as the cricket that night so I didn't get to see it.

BMW is the only team that can sort of compete with Ferrari and McLaren by the looks of things so far. From Renault being 2 time world constructors its poor to see their name drop down the list.
Red Bull could sneak into 3rd or 4th once more of Newey's brilliance is part of the current car.
We know they have reliable power with the Renault mill too.

The FW14, and the Silver Arrow McLaren's of the Hakkinnen era were all to his credit.
Sure, maybe his time has passed as being on the top of his game, but his credentials speak for themselves.
I dunno, I think he could do something pretty cool, though the rules are pretty limiting now (to my dismay).
I don't think he should be written off by any means either.
Somehow I expect a 1st corner crash between Hamilton and Massa tommorow. Massa will not give any space tomorrow after what happened last race I think.
Yeah, it'll be a tense one for sure!
I might head to one of the Brit pubs in town to watch the show.
Hopefully everyone keeps it clean. I know Massa isn't a dirty driver, but his old habits as an over-aggressive crasher crept up on him last weekend. He wrecked a lot of cars early in his career (not as many as Sato though lol).
edit: Timothy! I just noticed you're in Holland?!?! Where? If you're in Amsterdam, we should get together to watch the race.

^^ Technically, Sauber even spotted Schu when Schu raced for him in Group C Mercedes sportscars
But yeah, good eye for sure. And not half as ugly as Flavio!!!
hope massa makes it stick this time
I wonder if the British media will finally let go of Button? I hope they don't hurt Hamilton as they have harmed Button.
I think they'll go easier on Hamilton. Hamilton has been in the media eye for years now, just not in F1. McLaren was sponsoring him when he was still racing karts.
Button burst onto the scene and had a number of decent early results for Renault before moving to Williams for a couple mediocre seasons. He didn't help himself by getting huffy and trying to play both sides of the Honda / Williams fiasco either.
Again, he went for more money and a pseudo-factory ride at BAR-Honda instead of sticking with a proven winner like Williams (even though Williams was only a 3rd or 4th best team at the time).
BAR-Honda has proven to be a career-ending drive. Rubens, JV, Button, Zonta....all signed the death warrant to their careers there. Sure, JV went on to a season and a half or mediocrity at BMW, but he was sacked in embarrassing fashion in favour of Kubica who has been fast right out of the box. Panis went from BAR to Toyota for a few years as combo tester/racer, but Toyota has been just as big of a flop as Honda.
I'm honestly not sure what other top 5 team would take a chance on Button once his contract with honda runs out. He would certainly have to take a pay cut for sure. There are too many young, fast drivers coming up through the ranks.
just to correct you slightly, Button started with Williams BMW in 2000, stayed with them for just 1 year before being shafted for Montoya. He then went to Bennetton (who obviously then became Renault in 02) and BAR in 03.
His first year with Williams was actually moderately successful, a few 5ths and even a 4th or two. Despite that i think he was brought in by Frank too young, he has definitely improved and matured since then. Remember he came straight out of British F3 (I think), if he'd had higher level experience before he came in it probably would've been better for him. He's not a Hamilton (either in speed nor maturity at such a young age).
I think he is a talented driver, he hasn't always had the equipment under him though. And yes, the Williams/Honda contract issue a couple of years ago was ugly and silly on his part. If he was to leave Honda now he would be picked up by a mid team, obviously he wouldn't go to a McLaren/Ferrari/BMW, but I could see him anywhere else. Prodrive might be on the lookout for a British lead driver (in case you don't know speculation is they'll be running a McLaren/Merc package)
^^ Thanks for the correction. It was so long ago that it all blends together at this point
ProDrive would be an interesting move, but is he willing to potentially pull a Jaques and run for a 1st year, shit team? Richards was the boss of BAR when they started too....
Button is a talented driver, but so is most of the field. They wouldn't be there otherwise. I'm just not sure if he's still a "special" driver who's able to really develop a package and win with sub-standard kit (Hungary last year notwithstanding).
Speaking of ProDrive...A McLaren package? As in the engine AND chassis? I wonder if F1 will go back to car sharing like they had back in the 60's and 70's?
well customer cars are permitted again from next year, and yeah thats the speculation.
The way the cars are designed nowadays basically means if you buy a chassis you'd have to use the engine as well, they're a complete package, you can't just swap one out for another without a fairly decent redesign.
Ahh cool, I didn't know that the whole "customer car" fiasco had been settled yet.
I dunno, I'll always love F1, but the petty bullshit drama is getting tiresome. I was watching the Porsche SuperCup race from Bahrain yesterday, and it was super exciting!
There just isn't the same degree of [Murray Walker] Hammer and tongs! [/Murray Walker] racing anymore.
Massa vs. Hamilton was good last week, for the few laps that it lasted. but that was really the only action all race!
Christ almighty, the live timing from F1 keeps fucking up so I just missed the last 10 or so laps and probably 10 laps over a few instances before that.
The bloody tv is showing the race on 90 mins delay (10:30 at night), but are already running 15 mins late with 1 program still to show.
And I just read that Webber's fuel filler flap is stuck up for the second time in 3 races
For fucks sake Red Bull, your cars aren't quick enough before you start sticking big fuckin perpendicular surfaces on it
aaaaaaaaaaaand there we go, live timing fucked up again
Yeah the timing has been annoying to say the least.
I'm watching on TV in Dutch, but I certainly don't speak any of it so I rely on the timing for little news tidbits.
I was thinking of hitting a British sports pub to watch but didn't bother.
Good race so far though.
haha, sorry to keep banging on about how bad our tv coverage is, but they just showed the championship standings, in number 1 was........
F. Alsono
yup, they know their shit
(I noticed they misspelled a driver's name at the Aus GP too btw)
brilliant, they just showed the qualifying results
