No one answered the phone at the prosecutor's office Wednesday night. Criminal charges had not yet been filed against Morris, whom jail officials said was released after posting $100,000 bond. "As always, these charges are merely allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty," Hurricane police said in their statement. Hurricane High School's Web site said Morris taught social science classes there. The Washington County School District said Morris has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation, but the district's superintendent refused to comment to the Deseret Morning News on Wednesday night. A woman who answered the phone at Morris' home declined to comment on the arrest. |

Jenna Ashley Herrmann, 23, of Salisbury was charged Wednesday night with two counts of second-degree custody child abuse, two counts of third-degree sex offense, two counts of sex abuse of a minor and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense, said Wicomico County State's Attorney Davis Ruark. Herrman is accused of having sex with the student over a two-month period starting Oct. 1. Herrmann was being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond Thursday, Ruark said. She was ordered to have no contact with the victim and to stay away from Wicomico County Public Schools' property. Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis said detectives from the Wicomico Child Advocacy Center first heard of the alleged improper relationship from other students. Three witnesses confirmed to police that Herrmann -- who was placed at the school through an internship by Salisbury University -- and the boy were having a relationship, police said. One person had seen pictures of Herrmann and the boy reportedly having sex and had received a letter from the suspect inviting him to have sex with her, police said. Police said Herrmann also allegedly asked another boy to have sex with her, but could not since the boy's sister was home. Right now, Ruark said, authorities believe Herrmann had a relationship with the one student. "We have no indications at this point that any other student was involved," he said. Ruark said Herrmann had also worked in Somerset and Charles counties prior to coming to Wicomico. "We are working with authorities in both places," he said. "It's being investigated." Lewis said the victim has left the Pittsville school and will transfer into another school within the county. Interim suspension at SU Ellen Neufeldt, vice president of student affairs at SU, said Herrmann has been placed on an interim suspension while she is being investigated by police. She has also been suspended from her duties at Pittsville Elementary and Middle by SU supervisors. While Neufeldt declined to comment further on Herrmann's case specifically, she did say students finishing their teaching degree at SU are required to have time in the classroom. For that, Neufeldt said, the person must go through an application process, have letters of recommendation and attend a primer course in how to deal with issues in the classroom, including avoiding improper relationship with students. In the wake of the accusations against Herrmann, Neufeldt said the school is reviewing how to best review their teacher candidates before they begin on-the-job training. "Any time you're given the opportunity to step back and look for ways to improve, that's what we are going to do," she said. Allen Brown, assistant superintendent of Wicomico County Public Schools, said teacher's assistants such as Herrman are usually provided to them through partnerships with SU and Wor-Wic Community College. Because of that, Brown said Herrmann did not receive as much scrutiny as a new teacher or staff member. "Typically, we do not do background checks unless we are hiring that person -- we do not consider (Herrmann's position) an employee of the school," he said. While the area is not immune to alleged incidents such as the Herrmann case -- a Wicomico Middle School teaching assistant was jailed in 2004 for having sex with several male students of the school -- it is still rare enough. "I don't recall any recently where the age of the victim was quite so low," Ruark said. As news of the incident began to filter through the community Thursday, some people expressed disappointment about the situation. "If it's true, it's kind of shocking," said Renee Brown, whose child went to Pittsville Elementary a few years ago. "I don't think it's right for any adult, especially someone like a teacher, to take advantage of a kid." |

She is a 1998 graduate of Biloxi High School. Tisdale said he has informed the school board of the charges against Bogard. He will meet with the board attorney and the district's personnel director today to determine what action should be taken. A preliminary hearing will be set within the next few days by the Justice Court, said Miller. |

Police reports reveal details of encounters In a police report included with the documents, one of Ragusa's seventh grade students told investigators that he and Ragusa parked in her Lexus SUV near Gant Road. He said Ragusa performed oral sex on him and then they had intercourse. The teen said Rugusa had several tattoos, including a flower and a butterfly tattoo on her front below her panty line, and a tattoo of a gecko lizard on her back. In a handwritten statement, one of the victims said Ragusa waited until his parents were asleep one night, and then drove over so they could have sex in her SUV in the boy's driveway. First arrested in March The case first made headlines when Ragusa was arrested on March 15. Investigators accused her of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student at Davidsen Middle School in Tampa, where she once taught. She bonded out of jail on those charges. Then, on April 15, Ragusa was arrested again. Detectives say they learned she had a second victim�a 15-year-old boy. She was charged with lewd and lascivious battery and two counts of sex with a minor. While she was out on bond on those charges, investigators say they learned that Ragusa had continued her relationships with her victims through text messages, love notes, and cell phone calls. On April 16, detectives say her alleged second victim contacted them to say he had still been exchanging text messages and having sex with Ragusa. According to investigators, he claimed the last time he and Ragusa had sex was on April 5. Ragusa's third arrest came on April 28, after investigators say they caught her in the act at the second victim's home, where the two had apparently just had sex. A detective spotted her as she left his home, and they interviewed a 17-year-old friend of the victim. Investigators say that witness told them he saw Ragusa and the victim kissing and he videotaped them using his cell phone. That video was turned over to investigators. Detectives also say the witness told them he heard noises coming from the boy's bedroom while he and Ragusa were inside, and it sounded like they were having sex. Ragusa remains in jail, and she's currently awaiting a previously-delayed bond hearing. Prosecutors have indicated they intend to make sure she's not allowed out of jail on the new charges she's facing. |

Although 35, the victim thought she was 24, Gauthier said, indicating Calautti never told him her age. The victim, whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban, also contacted Calautti by phone at her residence. The basis for the charge that she pleaded guilty to stems from the fact that she knowingly communicated with a person under the age of 18, whom she was aware had romantic interest in her and never ceased communications. As a teacher, she was also in a position of authority. The Grade 11 student began emailing Calautti in November 2007 after his emotional break-up, Gauthier told the court. Calautti, an academic resource teacher, who helped students regain lost credits, had taught at the school since October 1999. By all accounts, she was one of the school's most popular teachers. At the time of her arrests, dozens of students defended her on the popular Rate My Teacher web site, including several students who revealed they would have quit school had it not been for her help. Contributors to the web site described her as being "awesome, funny, sweet, pretty" and "smart." One submission described her as being "the greatest teacher in the world." Court heard that at the time of the Internet communications, that Calautti's marriage was under stress with her husband being absent from their home, leaving her to care for their 4-year-old Autistic son. She and other teachers became aware of how upset the victim was over his break-up with his girlfriend but her conversations with the boy became more personal, and involved her relationships and experiences, Gauthier said. Court heard how the victim obtained her email when he overheard her giving it to another person in her class. He then communicated regularly with her between Nov. 2-9. "The chats were friendly and personal," Gauthier said. Between Nov. 5 and Nov. 9, the victim indicated to her that he was attracted to her and that he had a romantic interest in her, Gauthier told the court. "She was flattered," Gauthier said. Despite knowing his romantic interest, Calautti didn't stop communicating with the boy although she told him their relationship would never go any further, Gauthier said. "He hoped it would," Gauthier said. Court heard that police were contacted by the boy's father when he became concerned about the amount of time his son was spending communicating with his teacher. |
