i too agree with that... and that too could open up the doors for something that may have been mentioned that i've missed.

instead of working to a particular genre, we could just have 10 track names given therefore if someobody has the vinyl of a track in a diff genre, ie a house version of say, energy 52 - cafe del mar and someone has the trance version, they can still both be used (so people dont drop out cos it's just for trance this month then techno next, etc) - would also be A LOT more interesting for the listening judges

just more shilling

good call, you smart cookie you I never thought of it quite like that but that does make sense, now almost no one except dnb peeps can complain hehehe

I'm judging trance. I don't feel qualified to judge anything else.

I think Import wanted to judge, but we haven't heard from him for a couple of days.

Try something new.. Less melodies and slower tracks, it's eazy..

I wanna vote in both

Still alive

The tracks seem alright if were doing trance, theyre focused around a more classic selection, thats ok with me its almost better if were doing remixes, cause that would open alot of variety. Some people might find older tracks boring tho, whereas if we pick new releases theyre not going to have any remixes.

Im still down with judging although its true i only got tables recently (last night, hells yea) so i dont have a technical background to bring to the table. So if someone more qualified steps up id be ok to sit this one out, if not i still wouldent mind judging.

Im not really stuck on any genre, id go in order from most to least time i listen to Trance-House-Techno. I like the idea of people using remixs to mix up the genre, but bear in mind im probably gonna be prone to enjoying a trance set more then a techno set cause of preference in the genre, even though i dont want to be bias, which raises a problem, as im sure all the judges will have a genre in the three they lean towards even if not intentionally.

Im so glad you came up with this, very doable(is that a real word?) for loads of people cos those songs can be found in a lot of places. Let the games begin I guess?

Posted by Andryuha on Mar-28-2007 01:16:

IDK, I'll have to vote against mauro Picotto. I'm not feeling his style. Lets replace it with something dreamy, like Super8 and Tab - Won't sleep tonight. But then again - it may cause problems for vinyl guys.

Posted by Beatflux on Mar-28-2007 01:32:

I'm not changing it because if if we tried to cope to everyone's whim, it would be chaos. I think most would agree these are classics and there are more than enough mixes to look through and explore. There are around 110 mixes.

I think we need one more judge for this competition. Anyone up to it?

Let the games begin
One more question:when is the deadline?

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Mar-28-2007 08:07:

Any chance you could add the Hybrid remix of Cafe del Mar to the list?

Woops, I guess I missed that one somehow. I'll add it to the list.

We have two judges so far, I think a third one would make the contest whole.

Mr. Third Judge are you there?

Posted by agentdansmith on Mar-28-2007 09:23:

Ha ha - I've only got one of those tracks!

What's the deadline on this comp? I can't get me decks set back up until Tuesday next week.....

Posted by Acid John on Mar-28-2007 10:14:

hell yeah. im so glad to see my idea get off the ground, and thanks so much for all the support, guys.

as for a deadline... how bout we give it a lil time. imma be in chile from april 4 - 16 and i'd wanna get in on this.

im still iffy on using all the remixes, but we'll see how it goes.

Posted by Tony Morello on Mar-28-2007 10:30:

how many mixes are we talking about here (haven't read the thread)

do you need a judge?

i'm thinking about getting a brand new ipod pretty quick

with a decent amount of time to listen to music

Would you care to be the third judge?

We still haven't set any deadlines or mix restrictions yet...

Posted by gsfg on Mar-28-2007 12:15:

what about:

solarstone - sevencities (armin van buuren breaks mix)
perpetuous dreamer - sound of goodbye (rising star mix)

Posted by Yohan on Mar-28-2007 15:42:

Am I out to lunch or does the Orig and Marco V remix of Cafe del Mar sound exactly the same?

PS: Good job Beatflux on taking this by the scruff of the neck!

If it's on Beatport, I'll add it. Or else considered it banned.

Posted by Tony Morello on Mar-29-2007 20:08:

sure, i'll lend my ears

Posted by Andryuha on Mar-29-2007 20:54:

so when should this be submitted?

Posted by Beatflux on Mar-30-2007 05:55:

Please note:

When the contest goes live I'll repost this contest titled with "official." Until then nothing in this thread should be construed as final and definite.

Here are the dates I'm thinking:

Up to 20 30 minutes mixes to be turned in by April 31st, 2007.
We'll take two weeks to judge the mixes and the winner will be declared on somewhere around May 14th.

I need to change the rules to include:

Each DJ is allowed one entry per contest. No exceptions!

What do the other judges say?

I had to bow out of the judging because I'm unfamiliar with trance as a whole. But if you guys get a house or techno (prefferably tech-house,minimal,progressive) I'd be more than glad to organize and judge the constest.

I suggest you take up Tony Morello's offer as he has quite a bit of experience.

Posted by Tony Morello on Mar-30-2007 08:31:

it doesn't matter if you're unfamiliar with trance, it matters on how it sounds and is put together

i'm not too familiar with trance lately myself

if anything, that makes me more of an impartial judge
