I think part of the lineup "watering-down" was that this was the first year that Coachella ran three days.

Now, after experiencing it, it wasn't bad. It allowed us to get there a bit later, and have more time for the artwork, extra stuff, etc... (which we usually skimped on due to the so many good acts).

Also, there was a "dome" which was a bunch of EDM that wasn't announced anywhere until last minute and wasn't on the flyer. Alot of quality stuff appeared there.

Most dance festivals here in Holland stop at 11PM as well (Dance Valley, Extrema, Awakenings,..). I wouldn't really call them bullshit festivals, though.

It's just a matter of what the government allows. Festivals here need a permit to go on through the night, which is supposedly kinda hard to get.

Posted by SPAWNmaster on Jun-27-2007 12:11:

It's very upsetting to me how insanely difficult it is to celebrate life by dancing to the music a group of people loves for nights on end. When I first got into the scene, I was in monterrey mexico about 6 years ago when there was an insane underground party scene. underground warehouse events...3 day desert festivals...the works. I know you're not gonna find that type of thing everywhere and I know how commercial the scene is these days anyways, but its just very upsetting to me (especially considering the state of the world anyways...).

To set things straight, I never said I was happy with the current situation.. There's a bit too much of governmental regulation (Holland is pretty well-known for that anyways).

It just more or less automatically drives you towards the 'underground' (i.e., illegal) festivals if you want to party outdoors all night.
