So it's important. Not caring for a proper opener and seeing so many failed opening attempts throughout a lot of venues in SF in the last 12-18 months has really fucked nights up and people need to get their asses back in gear. A big reason why people who would go to nights for the same DJ in LA and also SF like the SF nights more 95% of the time is because of the FUCKING OPENERS. The headliners FEED OFF THE OPENERS. THEY GO OFF THE OPENERS. IF THE OPENER DOES NOT DO A GOOD JOB IT LITERALLY EFFECTS MOST HEADLINERS SETS IN THE END. You take the same person and pit them in the crowd where the same headliner is playing on two different nights. At the same venue for argument's sake. On one night, let the opener be careless. On the second night, let the opener do it right I guaran-fuckin-teee you that 99% of them will have enjoyed the second night better. Take most of your top nights an I guarantee you that you'll remember the opener being proper! |
I 100% agree Dave. Every Ferry show I have been to at Ruby, the openers were perfect. The transition for Ferry was effortless.
BUT MY PERSONAL preference is harder stuff all night. In my perfect world, Taj/Dirtyhertz would play banging stuff into Ferry and Ferry would continue the energy level the rest of the night. But knowing that Ferry's style now is less trancy and harder than it has been, such an opener probably wouldnt fit.
I think Ferry tends to play more trancey in SF than he does LA. His last two sets in LA (NYE & 4/20) he played a more electro/housy set.

like i normally would because "SUPERSTAR DJ'S" (for some odd reason) have trouble taking it to the next level. But not worry Dirtyhertz & my tag team set will not disappoint!

How does a trance DJ take it to the next level if the opener is playing in the high 130s and 140s and hard. Play happy hardcore?
I am sure if Dirtyhertz had his way, he'd have the crowd dancing like this...
Note: You NEED to watch this whole video. THE WHOLE THING. It's amazing!

I understand what you mean, but it's hard for a headliner who plays low 130s to low 140s to even start in his elementy if the opener is playing at 145 and hard. He could do it, and probably do well, but it's not what the crowd expects or comes for in most cases.
Not that I'd ever think you'd play 145....but there are some openers out there who do just that!
Of course, just IMO. lol

that thes "big" DJ's have sooooooooooooo much trouble feeding off what the crowd has been built up to.
"big" DJ's now set paramaters/rules that IMO hurt the night.
For some of those DJs, I think they like that when they've been burned a bunch of times by being setup horribly by the opener.
