Originally posted by zokissima You're referring to Canada? What free education exactly? Oh, you mean our amazing public schools, that are free up to the point of post-secondary education, and that have standards and test scores that continuously rank amongst the lowest in the world... Ok, forgive me bitterness there, but I think its important to note, although it is off topic, that the 'free' education in Canada, even in Canada is worth very little. And most European countries, along with many in the middle-east, asia, and so forth, offer free POST-SECONDARY education... Anyways..

Originally posted by The Highroller Hmm, this isn't exactly that great. I'm doing a year of school in France this year, and universities here (with the exception of the grands coles which can actually cost a lot of money) are free. However, even though the school I'm going to is supposed to be a really good business school in France, I feel the quality of education here I'm getting is much lower than I get in Canada. I hear a lot of North American students studying in France complain about this. My university education in Canada is fucking expensive, but I certainly get what I pay for. I'd much rather pay the amount that I do and get the education that I get in Canada than pay nothing and get the education that's available here in France.

Originally posted by zokissima On the whole I hear what you're saying, but I still see it as a good thing. There are definitely varying levels of post secondary education here, and arguably some schools are much better than others; the prices of their respective tuitions also reflect this. However, at least there is the option of free post secondary, comparatively to Canada, which has none. Either way, way off OT of this thread anyways.

Originally posted by malek French students studying here say the same thing, but you need to know something. They have a free education system, and basically everyone can get into university and get a diploma. But if you're really good and want to get somewhere in life in France you need to get into a Grande cole and its very difficult and hard to go through. But at least there's a choice for those who are good enough and bright. In Canada there's no such Universities, anyone can basically get into almost every program.

Originally posted by The Highroller Ehhh, I don't know about that. Grande coles are extremely hard to get into, but I heard from people studying at them that once you get into them, they aren't much more difficult than the normal universities. It's just the reputation that gets you places.

I think the real conclusion of this thread is that the Canadian education system sucks by somehow allowing this fuck nut to graduate at 16.
Where the hell are the standards you would find in many of the countries immigrants come from?
Wow, how did I miss this?
Shelley, thank you.
Fayaree (re: Monarchy) What Yohan said.
AGQ - I'm taking the forgiving stance here as the boy is 17 and most 17 year olds have a skewed view - racism in schools (certainly in mine in the UK, they had separate times for white and indian kids to leave the playground) may have left a bitter taste in his mouth - we can only hope that life shows him that race/creed/colour/socio-economic status of people has sweet eff all to do with whether they are a good person or not.
Immigrant conversation in general - It is damn hard to get into Canada!

Do the self-assessment test to see if you would qualify to get in

And people have the right to bring their families over - now, I personally don't think this should be stretched to 400 relatives but immediate family - fine.
My final point is... If you think someone is here illegally - TELL THE AUTHORITIES and quit your whinging. I hate people who moan and do fuck all about it.

Originally posted by fayraree lol maybe because you're from Cyprus. That's the excuse some of my cousins from Pakistan got plus it was hard for my ex to get into the programs she wanted because there was a quota for int'll students. No stats, just experience.
