Exactly.

Magazines, songs, television, media, advertising, etc... All of it merely perpetuates our culture of happiness, where people are encouraged to live overindulgent lifestyles and feel and look only the ways in which they are told. Is it a new thing? Certainly not. But it keeps people in these cycles so that they do nothing but keep on consuming, and that irritates me. I really wish I knew why.

Am I saying that love is a bad thing? Certainly not. I feel quite the opposite. I am, however, quite skeptical of most people's "love", as I have seen it as nothing more than naivety and wanting all too often. Love isn't something you make happen. You can't just one day fall in love. That's why it's so fucking rare. But people try to force it and irritate it and make it more than what it is. They imitate ritual in hopes of garnering feelings of desire and mating appeal - which they may very well succeed in, but that's really not love, in the pure sense, if such a thing even exists. It's still just imitation.

Yeah, but you've had your relationship for what? Several years? I bet both of you have grown up together in many aspects. You've been through hard times and great times and you've faced doubt more than once. You've been tested and tempted and both of you are still together and devoted? You've earned it.

I'm really not in a position to say what "real" love actually is - I just know when it isn't. Infatuation and longing are telltale signs of something that just won't last. I look back on women I have loved - really - but I do not feel that same way I did for them. It's not limited to proximity, either - some things just do not last forever, and accepting that is not "giving up", but realizing that what you expect out of life has little to no bearing with the reality of things. Nothing is ensured to you. Ever.

Big fuckin plus one to that. So many times I seemingly fall for girls, then a few months down the line wonder what it was I saw in them.

Haha, nobody understands that better than a hopeless romantic, lol.

"The only constant is change."

Honestly, "true love" does not even exist. Anything that can be considered genuine and consummate love will eventually cease to exist as well. It's just how it is. Life is in a constant state of flux. Everything is ultimately transient, both pain and pleasure.

Quite on the contrary. Transience itself makes it possible for any emotion to bloom, for feelings are processes in - and about - experience.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Dec-04-2007 02:49:

Is "true love" an emotion though? We are lead to believe there are many emotions attached to it - and perhaps there may very well be - but the transience of feeling may not allow for something to manifest if the status of the manifestation is completely subjective. Or it may. But I refuse to believe that people can make "true love" happen merely by wanting it. The human heart is nature's labyrinth. To assume we have full control over it seems arrogantly presumptuous to me.

Just bend over and I'll show you what true love is.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Dec-04-2007 02:52:

Ok, but take out your piercings this time. I'm tired of coughing up stainless steel and am rather confused as to the reverse engineering of the body's sphincter system.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-04-2007 02:54:

Didn't I already say that I did that? Fuck, pay attention!

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on Dec-04-2007 02:55:

That's what you said last time.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Dec-04-2007 03:01:

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
