You're not doing him a favor, I'll tell you that... Instead of replying to you and your immature remarks, as if you're Deadmau5 and merit a reply, I won't, except for one issue, cos you're probably just another idiot behind a computer screen... As far as a Visa goes though, I don't know any promoter who's ever gotten a DJ a Visa... Agencies take care of that, and as Deadmau5 mentioned, his agency took care of it, after a long and tedious process... No promoter is going to say, "Yeah, let me drop what I'm doing with my upcoming parties and lineups, and spend a few months of paperwork and 1500$ for a DJ's Visa who will draw a crowd of maybe 10 (in the spring)"... It doesn't work that way. I could be wrong but I don't think that's ever the sequence of events that ever occurs in booking DJs... I know because I book DJs... Half the DJs that come to the United States do so without this Visa and no one's getting locked up for it, or has had problems with this (except for maybe two instances I have heard, both in Los Angeles)... But, I'm not even going to touch this post any further, you're doing more harm to your "mau5" than good.

Once, he wrote me this really nasty letter in 4th grade. Luckily, I kept that note and to this day I throw it in people's faces whenever I don't get my way. I'll tell you, there's nothing better than holding a stupid grudge, especially if that grudge is against a DJ who, for whatever reason, was in a bad and unmotivated place in his life and couldn't legally travel to the US because a promoter wouldn't pony up the leg-work to get a visa sorted out and instead asked him to defraud the US government...not like you've been hot on border control or anything lately.

Good to know I'm not the only one with sour grapes now that he's a fucken rockstar.

How about this, I like music, I like his work, I like going to parties - so go and stop being childish. Or were you hoping he would notice that you didn't show?

Or, at the very least, keep working to positively develop your relationship with him so that now he has a visa, he can come and rock your world...and possibly help you out. If he's come this far in the last year or so, imagine what this kid has the potential to do. But I guess it's easier to be a little bitch. I hope he saves this thread for the next year just in case you come around and invite him to play again.

Maybe, just maybe, act like a professional and don't bad-mouth other professionals on public forums...I've heard that shite written years ago can come back and haunt you.

With Love from Canada,

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Mau5head.

Speaking of acting professional, it's so great that he's rallying his troops (and telling them the "WHOLE STORY" wink wink).... That's really professional...

hahaha

story is:

this guy from NY wanted to book me a couple of years ago for like 1k.. and they said "just come over and say youre visiting friends" so i said no way, im not doin that without ther proper / papers visas.... so i told him i wasnt interested in playing in america. because as your all sure that if i went n did that, got caught, ytou can forget any chance of me ever being able to get ab actual visa / being allowed back into the US...

so... now my agents for north america got me a 3 year O1 visa (which was not easy to get) and now this guys just pissed off that i got US gigs and that i didnt play for him beofre. theresfore i guess it was cool of him to bring that up in a forum like that.

oh well. it's not very professional on his part, at all... so much in fact that even now that i can enter / perform in the US...im not really interested in working with him... and that just made him upset enough to post random bullshit on the forums i guess.

and as it turns out, he has alot of lil buddies and whatnot on his side... so yeah, thats recipe for a good lame thread right there.

... but i dont think it all amounts to me "being a dick" ... if anything, i did the right thing by shutting down that gig 2 years ago.. wotherwise i'd probably not have the opportunnity to play all these new ones. I like to run everything legit, and i dont like to deal with people who dont. its not that hard to understand really... but the rest of the "im an asshole" order should really give it a rest... 70 out of 73 people who make these claims, i've never even met in the first place. :\

ah the drama! ahahah

then try booking an international DJ, because if you're about to tell me that you've never heard of an international DJ being barred from entering the united states because they did not have the proper permits on hand... then you are on another planet.

look, i think were both in agreement here when i say "i dont want to have any business with you or whatever the hell it is you do" ... so why the fuck are you jacking *this particular thread* to make your little retarded claim?

why dont you just save us alot of bullshit and call Joel Zimmerman at Division1 or the willams morris agency, or IMD... im sure they'd care too. because you might not know this... but this is not the place for that shit... so can you please pack up your sandbox and move it to another discussion... more specifically, a discussion that has something even remotely close to do with you.

You're half right, I'm not a DJ or a producer - I'm a tech.
I don't do tours to the US without a visa and I don't blame him for not wanting to mess with the border patrol either just because everyone else is doing it.

My key point here is that badmouthing him on here isn't going to help anyone and just makes you look small and unprofessional.

And if you're going to let the rantings of one club kid affect who you book, because what - I pissed you off, then seriously how professional can you be? You offered him a gig, he declined. Get over it. I don't even know Joel, except through TA and seeing him play.

Thanks for the lovely visit to NY.

Not one headliner we have booked was American (except for Dinaire), all international DJs... We know very well how the game is played, and yes, we are aware of when it has gone wrong, but at the time (April 2007, not "two years ago" like you say in your "yes me to death cos I need support" thread in the Toronto forums), we reached out to promoters in the area to pool in efforts to pay for your oh-so-necessary 1500$ work permit, and the only response I got was "Dead-who?... Never heard of him, anyone else you guys need to have double booked?" Reality check for you, but that's how the business is. If an artist wants to "spread his music to a new market", when they're at a low and underground level in their career, they do what they need to do that.

quote:
i can name 6.

That's funny. I can name at least 6 American promoters and DJs who have given me a high-five (in PM, Myspace message, or IM form) and nod of agreement for mouthing you off like this, so you people out there better believe this isn't an isolated case. I won't name them though, they have much more to lose. One thing you need to understand is that we are an independent promotion group. We work with independent venues, and bring in (for the most part; of course some parties don't always deliver) an independent, refreshing, and EDM-knowledgeable crowd. Being "unprofessional" by speaking about all of this on a forum is nothing that I really care about. You're the bigtime producer now, and at the end of the day, we're regular people just like everyone on this forum: we're just regular people that love EDM and put our own hard-earned money to put on parties. I think one of the beauties in the New York scene is the emergence of independent promoters like me (and guys who do their job 50-100 times better and more consistent than me)... The amount of independent parties is what this city's all about. Back to the point though.. so, me being a "regular EDM person", I have opinions, views, and like a "regular person", I call them out when they need to be, at no loss to my "professionalism".

I let my argument drop yesterday afternoon, and there was a full 24 hours of silence, where the only thing people were speaking about was Pacha and how big it was. Responding to this thread and defending yourself was legit. But, then your aching need this afternoon to post up a (for the most part) "help me" thread in Toronto; what was the need?

Neither does *****.

Neither does half the ppl I've seen and met here in NY.

I don't wanna put ppl out there but I think maybe since Maus was a noob he thought promoters had to get the Visa for him.

Kinda like me saying.. oh my passport is expired.. Gimme 70 bucks so I can re-new this bitch!!

Ah well.. I just think private stuff should be kept private. My opinion.

I'd like to see Maus but 1. it's the boyfriends bday so we must do whatever he wants.. and 2.. it's at Pacha a club I really dislike.

If it was any other weekend at any other club, you'd prob catch me thurr

Whatever the story is, whether you agree or disagree, let's let it end here... I won't say anything I've said so far is wrong, nor will I say I regret anything I've said, but I will say for sure that this thread has gone wayyyy out of control, even for TA standards... Whosever fault it is, or whatever side you're on, whatever... Just stepping in here to keep it from going worse, no1 likes a shouting match and there's really no need for that, whatever your view may be of me OR him. Not worth it, and if you enjoyed it up until now lol then sorry, but the show's over.

So, boys and girls, moral of the story is: there's a reason well-known DJ's don't post on forums much except for the occasional innocuous "hi," and it's because of shit that comes up in threads like this.
Deadmau5, hope you learned a lesson: learn to curb your forum fights = keep your credibility. Doesn't matter who's right or wrong at this point, because going on like this in an entire thread made you sound extremely unprofessional.....

Seriously, both of them came off as children. It's not as though he needs to quit forums, he just shouldn't respond as immaturely to criticisms. I know Ryan's on here (and ignores most of what I'm talking about), but do you ever see Sean Tyas on TA responding to criticisms of his style of trance in the Music Discussion forum? No, you don't, and those are far more scathing. It's because he's not stupid.

It's too bad that deadmau5 can't take clues from the guy he's opening for here and be humble and grateful for his fans on TA. I've seen JZ respectfully disagree with someone, but I've never seen him come off as poorly as deadmau5 did in this thread. Taking it to his home turf on the TO forum to gather troops and support was definitely the low point. It reminded me of when this tool on TA took a disagreement with me to the GU boards. How insecure do you have to be that you need to go run for approval from your hometown boys?

I love how people forget where they come from and what they over come because I have so many friends from around the world that are just amazing DJs and would drop all what their doing to come spin in New York City without a question asked, visa or no visa, and without any B.S. drama that I have been reading hear from this "TOOL", but the moment the DJ gets his recognition is when the excuses & bitching begins.

F*ck you and the VISA you riding your drama ass glitched, bitching tw*at mumbling, head up your ass talent. Just another Rockstar wanna-be attitude. (welcome to NJC, MaddaFukka)

Why dont people just be real sometimes??? F*ck is wrong with having an opinion and sticking to it?

EDIT: DJ Tool, if you hear screaming of, "Go back to Canada, YOU TOOL", thats just means I was in the city and had nothing better to do but to come down to Pacha.

StrobeLifeNYC, why did you put so much effort into ruining Mau5's reputation over something as minor as him turning down a gig? Sure, you found the oil deposit before everyone else did. That's really cool, and I'm really sorry that it didn't work out. There is no need defame anyone because of that. I also find it really naive of you to point out the fact Mau5 brought in some cronies to help him out, when you have at least two people in this thread doing the same thing.

Please, both of you take into account the way Jason Jollins posts. It would help you both in the long run.

who da f*ck cares what Jason posts when we talkin about a different thing here. iammesol, get a clue.

This should be a sick night of music!

On another note, I dont know how one guy can bust another guy's balls, on a forum no less, because the guy chooses to abide by the law and not risk being barred from playing here...

Edit: I dont know the story either, but the TA drama is pretty funny...
