totally. very very entertaining.

CZ is definitely an experience. I'd rather take CZ over going to regular clubs with people dressed to get attention, annoying guys hitting on every girl they see and pushy crowds

HANDS DOWN. 100%.

Ok, so after all the responses to this thread, I've come to some conclusions. The reasons why I haven't had a good time at CZ seem to be nonexistent, mostly just in my head. The main thing was that I felt unsafe there, because it's such a shady place. From what everyone is saying though, I gather that this isn't really the case, and people tend to mind their own business. I also didn't know about all the different areas and what each one means (boys town, gangster row, etc). That helps a lot.

I definitely will give it another shot sometime soon, to see how it goes. Hopefully not on an expensive day. If it doesn't work out, then whatever. I just hate the idea of missing out on an awesome party for stupid reasons.

LMAO so were you actually dancing in boys town and didn't realize you were surrounded by gays?

I'm not sure why you want to make a production out of things and go after a club. If you really want to enjoy cz, why don't you just stay in a sat night and go sun and devote the night to it. that way you won't have to worry about expenses etc as well.

i've never been to cz, always wanted to though. after reading all these posts, pretty interesting to say the least. i have a few questions

-how many people can fit at cz, with talks of boyztown, chinatown etc, sounds like a little city.

-when you say gangsters, do you mean real gangsters, or wannabe thugs with baggy pants and such? what do they do that makes them so scary.

-are fights common?
-what about the bouncers? are they as good as at guv?

Posted by jon jon on Jan-08-2008 04:35:

hahah @ this thread

honestly, I could sit down with a case of beer and talk about zone for 10 hours straight and only be half way through my "INSANE ZONE STORIES"...

good times indeed, and never ceases to be a topic of discussion on both this board and in real life.

Never counted

Ever been to Jane and Finch? If not go and check out the Jane & Finch mall from the inside.....Whatever type you see there.....

-are fights common?

Depends sometimes /sometimes not ...... I have seen guys beating up a dood or couple of doods beating them up with chairs and stuff upstairs....Just dont get gang banged because it wont be a single dood it will be a whole gang.....

-what about the bouncers? are they as good as at guv?

CZ 8/10.........Guv bouncers 10/10

No more than a couple hundred people can fit downstairs. It's the biggest small club in the world It's probably a little bigger than the gallery @ guv.

Never really crossed the gangsters there.. nor do I really look at many people's faces when I'm in the 'gangster' area

I've never seen a fight there. They do happen though. Probably not as common as other clubs. You're way more likely to see someone G out, lol.

Bouncers are the best I've experienced (with the exception of that guy on nyd thinking ummie, myself and ben were dealing). If they catch you smoking or doing drugs they will just tell you to keep it more low key.

What does this mean?

I thought people hated the guv bouncers.....

or are you rating them on their ass kicking abilities or what?

Yes

I have seen a single bouncer stand alone and take down a guy infront of his friends who i would say easily 10 or 15 of them and no one dared to come infront of the dood and he was like in total control even though he was shorter than the dood he was taking down......Guv bouncers can kick ass.....I have seen it.

doesn't hurt that they are coked out and have enough adrenalin to go on a rampage at any given moment, lol

Fucking right.

Never been, will NEVER go. As for knowing how the scene was like when it first started I'm sure it wasn't like the zone. Sure there might've been some sketch but nothing like what's in the zone from what I hear. Been to enough places in my partying career to recognize a dirty, nasty, shithole of a place to know that I wouldn't have a good time there. (and I have had some fun in places that were questionable, just not every fucking week, man...just don't understand it. I hear a lot in this thread about how it's good b/c there are no drunken idiots, ok sure but from what I see it's b/c of the "high as I kite, wtf is going on" mentality of the partiers there. Probably to the point where I'd be unsettled/annoyed at their stupidness just the same way I m when I drunken idiot does stupid shit at a club, if not more so.

you need to come out and give cz a chance. it's never as bad as anyone says. it's actually pretty tame. I wouldn't call the place a dump either.. it's just dark.

Mebbe, I've had good friends of mine off here say "It's not like it once was." and that "It's not my scene.", so for now I'm taking their advice. I mean like I said I've seen some sketchy shit, just not at freaking 6am or 10am, I'm asleep by then or chilling at someone's house after a party, don't really feel like going to another party atmosphere at that point. Probably because I don't and have never dropped, my energy is toast by then. Only way I have more energy and even then it's tested is on vacation. It's probably also the only time I'd hit up a CZ type of place...randomly. Even in Ibiza I didn't last until 8 or so and that was basically falling asleep half the time poolside.

I was the same way I never gave the zone a chance for the 1st 5 years I was into the scene because of all the stories I herd and what people told me about it. Then one night I got talked into it and I hated it the 1st time I went and didn't go back for over 6 months then I went again and was in a different mind set i knew what i was in for and what to expect and had a blast and now its one of my favorite spots in Toronto. The music is the best in the whole city and everyone there enjoys it in their own special way.

As for the bouncers I fucken love the Zone bouncers you can always shoot the shit with them and there all pretty cool at least to me and my friends. I can't see myself ever chatting to the Guv bouncers. Zone Security >>>> Guv Security

I love the atmosphere in the CZ......all the people are there to party and listen to great beats...the true lovers go to the zone. Its dark, its dirty, its a place you wouldn't want your mother knowing you go to....its a throw back to better times...imo.

I agree that CZ has definitely cleaned up since back in the day, though I was pretty young 7-8 years ago and didn't attend, it has come a long way from the first time I went about 5-6 years ago.

I'm not more afraid of the Guv but am much more aggravated when I go to Guv due to how packed it gets sometimes, especially on Halloween.

Alright, so I'm hoping someone can help me out with this.

I've been to CZ three or four times now, and I can't honestly say I've ever had a good time there. But at the same time, I see loads of people, here and elsewhere, talking about how awesome a time they always seem to have at Zone, and how much they look forward to future events. So I'm trying to figure out why I can't ever enjoy it.

Obviously, the music is awesome. No question. But the atmosphere there just seems so unfriendly and negative. I remember being genuinely scared there on more than one occasion. Is it all just in my head? Am I hanging out in the wrong places? Should I not be talking to people while I'm there? Apparently there's an upstairs....what's there?

Usually what ends up happening when I find myself at zone is that I have trouble getting into the dance floor - because I can't see and am afraid of the people around me. I end up sitting on the patio most of the time and smoking. Either there or in the lounge to the right of the DJ booth.

So I guess what I'm asking is for someone to please explain Comfort Zone to me. I really want to be able to enjoy it, since it is THE afterhours place in Toronto, and I live a 10-15 minute walk away from it, but I just haven't been able to up to this point.

Thanks!

"I see loads of people, here and elsewhere, talking about how awesome a time they always seem to have at Zone?"

Lol how fucked up are these people when they say this. I wonder if they would say the same thing when they are sober?

100%
I usually go sober and still have an amazing time!

Posted by stever on Jan-12-2008 19:52:

the zone represents everything i believe a club should be.

its raw, and focused on the music- not the vip.
to feel 'included' all you have to do is love the music.

if you feel like you dont fit in- its probably because you cant get over being surrounded by people different from you.
